I don't know why they're going through all this trouble. It's the third game. The time to make an iconic female Shepard was in ME1.shnellegaming wrote...
I'm just curious. Considering the fact that Bioware is going to so much trouble to create a default FemShep look that looks like it could be a full Cinematic Render. Just because this is the last hurrah of Shepard for ME3 would you be interested in them rendering their full cinematic in both Fem and Male shep? Would you be more interested in two different trailers. Maybe some other types of trailers?
Just once I'd like to see a full cinematic (as in full high end rendering non-ingame footage) Femshep trailer since this is the last hurrah of Shepard. They are gonig to do the normal one anyway. How hard can it be to just sub in a Femshep and render it twice?
Anyway I just would love to see Femshep like that. Would you guys be interested alos? Perhaps if we get enough hits we can get Chris, David's and the marketing department's attention.

I never said Sheploo was bad. This is a systematic issue, not an insular one. The issue isn't that the face of ME is a white male. The issue that the face of MOST popular media is some white male (with a shaved head. LOL.)Razorburn wrote...
What does him being white have to do with anything? And who said the marketing department was all "dudes?" The topic of this thread is support for a FemShep trailer, not to troll about how bad you think Male Shep is. Adding a ninja smiley doesn't make the hate go away.LucidStrike wrote...
Yeah, enough with white dude action hero. At least let's get a female some limelight.
Dudes defending male privilege as good marketing? Surprise.
You ever notice how most heros in popular media are white? Well I have. I've noticed that they don't look much like me. I am very well aware that it's not a coincidence, that in a world dominated by straight white males, most media heros are straight white males. Don't even get me started on the blonde hair/blue eyes = good dynamic in Fable. Ugh.
I've always played as a customized male Sheperd, because it's easier to connect with a character more like myself. Not all that often I get to see someone who looks like me as the hero on MY television (even with all the WIll Smith films. LOL.). I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels like that.
You might think I'm attacking a strawman, but I'm not. Popular culture definitely affects how people see themselves and others, like how black little girls tend to prefer white dolls and identify the darker dolls as the uglier ones:
Researcher: Which is the nice doll?
*Little black girl picks white doll*
Researcher: Why is that the nice doll?
Little girl: Because she's white.
Researcher:Which is the bad doll?
*Girl picks black doll*
Researcher: Why is that the bad doll?
Girl: Because she's black.
Also, I don't hate anyone. That's just like the all-too-popular notion that pointing out that something is racist is itself racist. Complete and utter bullsht. You might wanna make sure you understand what I'm saying before you make unfounded assumptions. Kthnks.
Who said they had to be different versions of the same trailer. The "femShep" trailer would most likely be unique, not a copy of a Sheploo trailer.Razorburn wrote...
Even though my Shep looks different, I like Sheploo in the trailers. Having multiple versions of the same exact trailer would just be a waste.

Irrelevant to you, perhaps, but important to a lot of us.
And besides, it's not YOUR money being 'wasted', is it?
I think that a overstatement to be fair. Only a few percentage of individuals desire such a trailer. And you're right, his money isn't being wasted, but I wonder though... Cannot those resource be contributed to the actually game (potentially making it better) than another trailer with the only purpose is to hype? I think the people who take favor in femshep should be more concern with how she actually preforms in game. Trailers don't really mean anything if the core game sucks itself.
To be honest, I haven't seen much in terms of gameplay for the upcoming. What I have seen looks pretty cool. That being said, there have been how many MaleShep trailers? 3-4 per game, maybe? All that's asked is just a little balancing of the scales and show a character (one in which Bioware itself allows us to play) which a lot of us love to play.
I won't deny your right to have or see multiple MaleShep trailers as long as you respect my desire for one.

She has no place in my Mass Effect. Default male has been the designated marketing Shep since the beginning. He is my Shep and the public's Shep. She wasn't on the previous ones, so why do I need to look at her now?
He's not my Shep. Why only focus on the ones playing maleShep? I mainly play as femShep and I'm thrilled they're finally shining some light on her to.

You can speak for yourself, but who relegated you to be the public's spokesperson? From the tone of your words, one gets the feeling you want Femshep as marginalized as possible, maybe even getting rid of that option altogether.
You also don't 'need' to look at, or watch, anything put out there.
When it does come out, watching something else, like 'Two and a Half Men'...

I thought you would be. But she was absent, so it bothers me that they are breaking my images by adding some parallel universe version of my Shep on my game cover.
The public see's default male. The players see whichever they choose in game. I prefer that they stick to their marketing idea of having a face for the trilogy and have him stay as THE face. I don't want parallel universe femshep that never existed on my covers before, or in my playthroughs for that matter, suddenly in the final act being on my copy.

You guys know that in the public marketing, they use the male Shep that I am referring to, right? He is their public face for Mass Effect. That is what I mean.
I am not so against her trailer, and I am for the option of her getting an officially created appearance in the options menu for those who use her. I am against her sudden appearance on my copy of the game when she was given no place there for the past several years. She didn't even look good to many people for the past several years. BioWare didn't support her for most of the trilogy, so why do they have to start doing it right when I am wanting my clean and perfect finale cover?
By the public, I most certainly mean the image of Shepard chosen for marketing that is projected to the public eye. The player's Shepard is whoever they choose, but to the public, default Male is always the publicly displayed face of the series.

Shepardloo is simply used for marketing purpose as will the femshep trailer, there is no canon Shepard

Considering they want to increase sales, going for female audience is one of the easiest ways to do it. It's logical to assume the number of FemSheps in statistics represents rathr accurately the number of female players the franchise has. And that number is only about 20% according to BW statistics. Avarage statistic for female players in the industry is much higher, even excluding social games and talking solely hardcore segment which means that BioWare has still potential for a significant grow in the female portion of their audience and that they didn't manage to attract as much female players as they could have. Pushing FemShep in marketing is the obvious way to go.Ghost Warrior wrote...

Frankly, they should've been pushing customization of Shep much more since day 1. More than 80% of players create custom Sheps. I mean, isn't it self-explanatory? It's a huge draw and most players love and use this feature. But non-fans and people who never played ME yet often don't even know it's possible to customize Shep. Yes, it is important to have that 'iconic', recognizable face and avoid the Kotor problem of constantly-masked hero in the advertisement assets, but along with Sheploo they should've promoted character creator heavily.hitorihanzo wrote...
Hell yeah we need GayShep! GayShep can even mixed with BlackGayShep, or BlayShep for short.
