Does anyone know what the save mechanics are like? Does it auto save at checkpoints or is it a save when you want type of game? Do you think it will be different between the console/pc versions? I'm worried about having to replay too much especially with such a (reportedly) hard game.

DA:O has no saves, you neeed to play it thorugh in one go
unless you play on the "Utter Wuss" settings with saves and quicksaves and yes autosaves
available on both console and pc

Note that said uberwuss setting is present on all difficulty levels.
You can save anywhere as long as you are not in combat or conversation.

certainly a glitch that will be rectified in a future patch but alas thats how it is atm
