I am currently playing Insanity as a Sentinel.  I already plan on getting squad AP ammo for Garrus, but I am stuck when it come to Overload.  I was planning to skip it altogether and focus on Concussive Blast, Turian Renegade, and Squad AP ammo. Any help would be welcomed.

2 Concussive
4 Area overload
3 Passive
4 Squad armor piercing.

Add a squadmate with pull and there'll be warpbombs everywhere.

Depends on how you use him.

If you use him as an Anti-Geth/Anti-Blue Suns specialist, then max Overload. It's the best Overload on a squadmate with Turian Renegade. In fact it is crucial for pre-Horizon NG+ because nobody else, not even Shepard, can strip Shields off basic mooks in one go.

If you're using him as a general purpose, semi-permanent squad mate, then max Concussive Blast. It's not as bad as people believe. On squadmates it's actually quite handy, especially with Turian Renegade, and especially against Collectors.

Personally I don't like Squad AP Ammo at all. I'd much prefer Squad Disruptor Ammo from Zaeed, or Squad Incendiary Ammo from Jacob/Grunt. In fact Jacob is a highly recommended squadmate for Sentinels with his Pull Field and Squad Incendiary Ammo. Give him the GPS and he'll be the MVP on your team.

Pretty much this. Concussive blast and Area overload is a more valuable buy, but the OP wanted a build with AP ammo maxed out in it so..:? On the plus side, that frees his bonus power allowing for more flexibility.

I didn't want to use AP ammo for a bonus when I much prefer Stasis. Also I really don't want to but points into Overload because I already use Overload and I use Miranda for additional defense striping when I need it. However I haven't ran into much of a problem when it comes to defenses, mostly because I tend to use Zaeed with Squad Disruptor anyways. What I really want to do with Garrus is make him my go to guy with Husks and Collectors.

Garrus' forte isn't against Reapers/Collectors. He's better suited to Blue Suns and synthetics.

Try Thane against Reaper/Collector enemies. Personally, I used Samara for that role on my Sentinel PT.

On second thought, I think I might pass up AP ammo

I always like my squaddies to do the shield stripping as I'd rather save my cooldowns for the killer power combos e.g cryoblast to heavy throw or squadmate pull to warp. With this in mind I would definitely prioritise his area overload and passive. Split the other points up however else you like. Personally concussive shot is situationally more useful than ap ammo because of it's crowd control and is a satisfying follow up to cryoblast.

Concussive Blast on Garrus is what you need to max if you want him vs. Collectors. Give him the BR as well. He's actually quite handy against them, though Grunt may be a bit better since you can have Concussive Blast and Inferno Ammo.

Also, since Sentinels have such great Defense stripping capabilities, having Squaddies that can cause max chaos on the battlefield is a huge bonus. Bringing Jack with Shockwave is a good example.

Husks and Collectors? Concussive Blast then as thisisme said.

Would it surprise you that Miranda is not an ideal squadmate for the Sentinel? Overload - I have a better one. Warp - I have a MUCH better one. Passive boost to squad Health - I'm a Tank, who is mostly Shields.

Sorry Miranda, but you should mostly stay in your office doing paperwork, and let Sentinel Shep handle the REAL fighting. :-)

I would bring Jack except I am playing on Insanity.

Jack is one of the most useful squadmates for a sentinel on insanity. Her pull plus cooldown bonus makes her perfect for setting up warp bombs and out of the park throws. Unless you're going down the assault armour shotgun route I wouldn't leave home without either her or Samara. (jacob is ok as a pullbot but doesn't get the cooldown)

I personally am about to do Horizon on Insanity (as a sentinel). Who would be best to bring. If I remember correctly, the Collectors use barriers. I'm concerned about the boss battle. So far I have done decent on Insane. Any mission I usually die a couple of times on a difficult battle, but I always pull through. Any advice?

Grunt with squad incendiary and miranda would be a solid choice.

Anti armour is important here so Mordin would be my first pick. As for your second it depends on playstyle. If you like warp bombing you'll need Jacob. With squad incendiary he's even more useful. Miranda is a good choice for her warp and squad buffs and Grunt is good for his squad incendiary and survivability.

I never actually found anti-armor to be important since every class has access to the carnifex, and the shuriken is my weapon of choice againt everything else..:? And if I use mordin he's spec'd into area cryo due to his insane cooldown.

I prefer to strip husks with incinerate rather than shoot followed by a throw to finish them off. I only resort to shooting when Mordin is on cooldown. His cryo is great though!

Which is why I use his cryo instead. :P I might use his +20% area incinerate on my next playthrough though - even if only for a change of pace.

As not to derail the thread, Mordin is a solid choice for his area cryo, and seemingly his incinerate is very handy aswell. :wizard:

It's slightly ironic given the thread title that the only character you'd be hard pushed to justify using on horizon is ...Garrus!

I actually find him useful. (other than snark, but that's useful aswell!) Letting him use the sniper rifle heightens his survivability by a considerable amount. And his consussive shot is amazing when compared to a consussive shot fired by anyone else.

I suppose all characters are useful even if not optimal. I've never found much use for Garrus except on blue suns or geth missions. Maybe I'll let him out the cage more often on my next run :-)

I find myself using him all the time since he's versatile. Sniper rifle for armor,  CS for barriers and overload for shields. Now that I think about it, the only missions where taking garrus would be a bad idea is on blood pack missions. Other than that he's pretty good, unlike Tali and her 18 second cooldown drone. :?

True say. That changes things.

I personally usually take Miranda (the Sentinel) for Warp. Her Overload is occasionally handy for the explosives lying around the level.

Jacob is good for his Pull, GPS (strong anti-barrier) and Squad Incendiary. He's usually pretty useless from Horizon onwards anyway, so I sometimes treat it like a 'last ride' for the guy.

Like others have said, Grunt is good for Horizon, mostly because of his guns, Squad Incendiary and toughness. His CS works, but may be under-developed depending on your ch.lvl (which makes Jacob a viable choice for Horizon).

Jack could work well if you think you can strip defenses efficiently enough. Plus she's also got a GPS.

People have also used Mordin on Horizon, but w/o Neural Shock / Full Cryo, he's more suited to Blue Suns / Blood Pack, imo.

I usually keep Garrus at home for Horizon, just so I don't need to max CS on him. IMO, I prefer to focus on his Area Overload early, and then either go max CS or Squad AP.

All the more reason to bring her.  She shines on Insanity.

^Yeah, she's still a beast so long as your team can bust defenses efficiently. Accurate Improved Shockwaves must not be underestimated, even on Insanity.
