Can't Play DA:O again.

Don't get me wrong I played the hell out of Origins before DA2, but now it just seems so slow moving and not engaging.
Has anyone felt this way?

I just like the detailed atmosphere more than DA2, but I can see where you're coming from. The combat does feel a bit slow after experiencing the awesome button. The voiced protagonist is also pretty good.

Hmm now if only there was a way to take the speed and skills of fighting from DA2 (no waves, no blood balloons) with the massive epic environments/story of DAO into one game...

The reduction in combat speed didn't really bother me. Different games have different speeds. Keep in mind, I liked DAO and DA2. But I haven't had issues going back to DAO. Of course, I don't have issues going back to even older games like KOTOR and Baldur's Gate II, both of which I recently replayed. Yeah, I noticed the different combat, but I adjusted and then just got used to the game on its own terms.

But after DA2, yeah, you notice how slow the game's combat is.
For DAO2/DA3, they need the combat to be faster than Origins but slower than DA2.

Yes.
I personally did not. In fact DA2 was that bad it's just bulldozed my interest in Dragon Age and then spat on it for good measure, to the point that I'm now more of a Mass Effect fan (at least that game has always been a TPS RPG unlike DA which was meant to be a proper RPG not "button awesome").

Another thing I noticed was that if you have mods running like Improved Atmosphere, High Res Textures (over-sharpened, but still an improvement) and DA Redesigned, the difference in graphics between Origins & 2 is... surprisingly minimal.

The only things I think DA2 did better than DAO was the companion interaction (no more ninjamances for example) and the faster combat animations.
The games streamlined skill trees would have been good except I reckon they went too far and ripped out all complexity and diversity they provided in DAO which is a bad thing IMO.
There are other things that DA2 did just as well as DAO. And some things it did worse.

I find DA:O prettier, and I still love the characters and story, but I fall into the category of being burnt out on it for now. BUT, I go back to older games all the time. I recently reinstalled NWN1, and have been casually going through KOTOR again. I might step away from games for a year or more, but if I enjoy them, I come back and play them again. Same thing for my favorite books...I can't imagine putting one of those down and never ever reading it again.

Morrigan-"Ugh, what do you want now? I was busy looking through mother's grimoire, I need to concentrate."
Alistair-"Charming as ever."
*Leliana facepalms*
Zevran-"So, what is it? The reason for summoning us here, I mean?"
Warden-"I had this dream the other night."
Alistair-"The Archdemon?"
Warden-"No. All of you, actually. In ten years time."
Leliana-"REALLY!? What were we like?"
Warden-"That's my point. Alistair, please lay off the alcohol. And the cheese. And try not to get hit in the face. You look horrid."
Alistair-"Wh.....wha....."
Warden-"And Zevran, my God. What happened to you? Maker, you're going to look like you succumbed to a facial disease."
Zevran-"I highly doubt that. Unless my di-"
Warden-"Leliana, you're not that different. But you did get a little rounder around the face. Don't know how I feel about that."
Leliana-"The Maker wills it."
Morrigan-"What about me? Stop wasting my time, out with it."
Warden-"You.....weren't there. But by the Maker, do me a favor. DO NOT SHOW UP UNLESS EVERYONE LOOKS EXACTLY AS THEY DO RIGHT NOW."
Morrigan-"I can just make that happen with magic."
Warden-"Then what the hell are you waiting for?"
Morrigan-"I already cast a spell to make everyone look uglier in 10 years time. It'll be a laugh and a half."
*Everyone's eyes glare and jaws drop*
Warden-"......FFFFFUUUU-"
And that my friends, is the in game explanation for the change in art style.

Even thinking about playing DA2 again gets more of a "Oh gods, I think I would rather stab myself in the eye with a rusty fork than play this piece of sh*t again."-reaction.

But I still have a tough time playing Origins, because I know it's going to chew up a monstrously huge block of time.
I think they're referring to the huge disconnect between calculation and presentation. Combat is resolved almost instantaneously, but it's divorced from the graphics, so although that slow-ass two-handed swing already hit the character and killed it, you won't see those results until that animation completes (and the target is free to run halfway across the screen before the hit is allowed to register).TeenZombie wrote...
Maybe it's a DA:O on console thing, but I never had the problem with combat being "slow" that other people have. I pause and issue commands, the characters on the screen do what I tell them, things go boom.

You know it's possible to disagree without being a complete and utter tool right?

Then DA2 came out...I admit that I do enjoy the combat much more than in DAO. It is a big more frenzied than in DAO, but something about it seems more fluid. I'm still trying to figure out what exactly is this big visual difference I keep hearing about, but honestly, on console, it looks about the same to me. The only difference is the varied scenery, from what I can tell. Ooh, and Cullen looks better. <3
After a couple of playthroughs of DA2, I went back yet again to try to play DAO and DAA again, for new imports, and had a really rough time with it. It wasn't hard; it was just...not all that exciting. Perhaps I too am simply burned out.

Same here. Annoying thing is I still have at least two characters I want to make, but I can't bring myself to start.Cutlass Jack wrote...
I have trouble playing DAO again. Its not anything to do with DA2 really. Or even the combat speed. (Never had issue with it) I'm just so burned on it I can't force myself past Ostagar.
I have played Origins once start to finish since playing DA2 though, and honestly I didn't mind one over the other in terms of pace or style. What I did take away from it though is how varied Origins fights felt in terms of encounter design compared to DA2. But then, how slowly characters run during combat started annoying me, and the way they swivel on the spot, so swings and roundabouts really.

You do realize then the people who loved DA:2s combat will be whining and moaning when DA:3 comes out and the combat is tweaked.

Dragon Age 2, on the other hand, never really had that effect.

After struggling to try DA2 for my second playthrough, enjoying legacy, but still not able to get back into DA2 - I tried DAO.
Damn that game is fantastic, before I knew it, hours had passed and I was enthralled in the world all over again - as an aside, I think the combat in DA2 was more improved, but the animations and speed of DAO felt more natural and I enjoyed watching it more.
