I can't replay DA:O again either. However, it has nothing to do with DA2. I just hate replaying video games. It bores the hell out of me.

Then you are like most people who play video games.  It's kind of the norm.

I'm kind of suprised you are on the forums.  Most foks here are really in to the game.  Casual players usually don't come here.

I notice you have Origins, Awakening, and the combo pack all registered.  I'm puzzled why you would buy the combo pack if you already owned Origins and Awakening.  Is that some kind of forum glitch?  Or did you actually buy a video game twice that you only played once?

My 360 crapped out on me and I ended up getting a PS3 instead of a new X-Box.

I'm on the forums because I enjoy discussing things with others and this place is as good as any to do that. Also, some of these threads get ridiculous and provide endless enjoyment as I watch the various factions bicker at each other. A little poke here or a well placed prod there and the fires really start raging.

Same thing occured to me! I LOVED da:o once i got into it (granted, i almsot gave up on it at the start as i had never played a game like it before and on my first game, i played awakening and had a terrible char/build!) And its the general opinion that DA:O beats DA2 in many aspects but I jsut cant play it anymore! The fighting seems... slow and not as fun! I can just imagine, the origins storyline, skill trees and everything plunked in with DA2 graphics and combat (but keeping with the DA:O brittle and other such things as i dont like how crossclass combos work. you would think some of the Primal abilities would have the strength to crack the ice of a brittle enemey like it could in DA:O!!!!!!) DA3 will b great if they take the base concepts from both previous games and come together with an awesome and ultimate final for the series! oh and they will have to use the DA:O darkspawn cuz the DA2 ones are.... #$%*&%$&$(%^%$^*$? :D btw, thats comical swearing :D:D:D

Outstanding.  That is a novel and refreshing PoV.

I was thinking of something. I can't play DA2 again, but maybe I'm just looking at it the wrong way...

I'm sure many of you have seen the Super Mario Bros. film, then wondered "What the hell is this? How do you go from a cartoonish 2D platformer to a film like this?"  That was my reaction, until someone opened my eyes and told me, "Don't look at it as a video game movie; look at it as a parody of terrible movie adaptations of video games." When I watched the film again, it went from something utterly stupid to bloody brilliant!

I wonder if DA2 could be approached the same way. The game could so easily be made into a Horatian satire of RPGs, both from BioWare and others. It hits all the right notes for a parody; you've got the clueless, incompetent hero, the comical exaggeration of just about  everything, and the art style that seems to borrow from everything from Avatar to Final Fantasy.

Indeed.

Why, there's even a moment  where the Developers of the game step out and send you a seriously direct  message  via Flemeth.

Anyone remember this exchange  in the prologue?

Flemeth Offers to transport  the party  past the darkspawn in exchange for delivering some trinket to the Dalish.
Hawke:  I guess we don't have much choice.
Flemeth: We never do

It shows me that there are some out there that actually watched Super Mario Bros, Avatar, and Final Fantasy. But I once made the mistake of going to see Howard the Duck, so....

I just can't. I've been spoiled by the stylish fight gameplay and voiced protagonist, that I can't go back and playthrough Origins. I tried but got quickly bored by how slow everything suddenly felt.

Don't get me wrong I played the hell out of Origins before DA2, but now it just seems so slow moving and not engaging.

Has anyone felt this way?

No, I hated the things that drew you in. I guess we're just representative of the divide (chasm-like) that Bioware has created in their fanbase. There's a reason that companies usually create new titles when they want to instigate radical change, rather than changing style midstream.

Bah! How could I miss that? And the bloke in the Hanged Man who says something like, "Don't you think that the whole world is getting simpler?" If I didn't know better, I'd say it was a case of Bored On Board.

I just assumed that exchange was because explicitly showing the tracks and train engine would be a little ... much ... at that point.

Think it's rather the case of lampshade hanging. "Bored on Board" requires the writers to be "usually a lot more talented than the material they're handed" and not pleased with what they're made to write, and from the various comments they've made themselves DA2 writing staff seemed quite pleased with their task, and largely in charge of what got actually written.

Cheers. It's funny, I actually had this same feeling about many aspects of the game as I was playing it. Unfortunately, at the time it felt too much like a slap in the face for me to find it particularly humorous.

I just can't replay DAO. Its all too dull to me, and its especially maddening with the wooden "acting" of the Player Character. Barely any emotion, and without a voice it just amplifies the wooden acting even further.

Non voiced protagonists are not bad, I loved me some Suikoden, but heartful moments just fell flat sometimes because of the voiceless warden.

Then there is the uninteresting combat that is slow and sometimes wooden. It handled enemy placement and tactics better than DA2, but DA2 combat was much more engaging to me during the actual fight. Fast, reactive and powerful.

Then again I never could finish the witcher( the first one) after several attempts, so maybe its just me. Personally I blame the damn swamp.

I just finished a marathon run of DA:O after reading the OP. I hadn't played it for a good year and a half, and was struck by how deep and broad the world was compared to DA2.

Not to say that I disliked DA2, I love it in fact. It's just that Origins had that ...something to it that you just can't explain. However, about a third of the way through, I started to get incredibly bored with the combat, so much so that I switched the difficulty to casual, just so I could get back to the story. By the time I got to Fort Drakon, I was chomping at the bit to get to DA2's combat style.

I've come to the conclusion that each game, for me, is perfect for what each does.

If Dragon Age:Origins is The Godfather, then Dragon Age 2 is Goodfellas.

After finishing DA2, I had started another run of DAO, but it didn't last much past Lothering. Maybe I'll pick it up again - maybe.

The biggest problem I was having was the different representation of a certain (formerly) beloved DAO character that DA2 handed us. The idea that she had been an undercover operative all along - it really changed the feel of the game for me, and not in a good way. Pretty disturbing, in fact.

The fallout from that is that I don't feel like I can really trust any of the characters or take them at face value. Since the companion relationships are a huge part of my interest in these games, their treatment of her in DA2 (with no indication of when she joined that organization) made a real sour note with me. I had been planning to buy a PC copy of DAO so that I could enjoy some of the mods, but - at this point - I dunno.

The combo pack is cheaper than the sum of the DLCs.

I have never understood why people didn't see Leliana as a liar from the start. I didn't think she'd be some secret agent for the Chantry, but it was obvious she was playing the Warden from the start.

Guess we see this one much differently, as I view this undercover example of paths taken that occured well after the events of DAO.

The Ultimate Edition for DAO is cheaper than buying all the DLC separately. I bought the Ultimate pack to get all the DLC even though I had DAO and Awakening.

I do not believe that she became a secret agent for the Chantry until after her time with the warden. Sher simply decided to put her bardic talents to use serving the Chantry. Doing the actions that should not be associated with the Divine.

That is also what I would like to believe - but the writers haven't really indicated that one way or the other, and there seems to be a difference of opinion about it among the fans.

Either way, going back and playing DAO or DAA feels different to me after having experienced some of the same characters in DA2.  No real surprise, I don't suppose - but it is not a difference I enjoy.

I also had that. The slower combat and silent protagonist were things I had to get used to again. I really liked the fast-paced combat and sarcastic Hawke. I kind of forced myself through Ostagar but once past that I loved it. Then again, I always had to force myself through Ostagar after the 1st/2nd playthrough though, even before DA2.
But I like both games a lot. Those two along with ME2 are my favorite games. ^_^
