In past don't know if still can but you can/could allow advertisers to stick adverts to your car and they pay you for it each month. :)

Advertising with income for doing nothing more than what was already doing ~driving from A to B in your normal schedule. Now thats the kind of advertising that I like.

There are some MMOs that allow for credits/top ups and points to be credited to your account when watch adverts on their site. Maybe they could pay us to read them in game if in game has online mode which can stream adverts when look in for example window in game of shop or store front using online or meta data to record that you did watch it they would top up your BSN account with (example) with Bioware points for each one read or watched. :D

Oh great. One of the reasons I play games is to get away from bloody wall-to-wall advertising, which is now so bad I've pretty much stopped watching TV altogether. Now the sodding things are going to be popping up here, too. Wonder if there's any way to block them?

I hope there's not going to be some Ubisoft-style "always on" requirement to feed it new ads - that would be extremely annoying.

A major theme in cyberpunk is the dehumanizing effect of living in a world where corporate culture has completely run amok. And lets not forget DXHR is set in our own future, 2027, only 15 years from today. It's not that unreasonable to think modern corporations of today will exist a mere 15 years into the future. I fail to see how fake advertising would be better. Authentic advertising lends the setting more authenticity--as long as its presentation in the game doesn't break the fourth wall.

I don't doubt that simply netting some income from an advertising agreement could be the underlying motivator here, but to be honest they couldn't have picked a better genre to be working in. Cyberpunk is a natural fit for these elements; it just so happens the two concepts (cyberpunk game + advertising deal to offset development costs) blend well together. It's also pretty ironic that a company could be profiting from corporate advertisement in a game where the setting and themes prominently feature oppressive megacorporate culture, and if that doesn't amuse you, you're just an uncivilized barbarian.

Now with that said I really hope it doesn't take the form of "LEVEL COMPLETE! Enjoy an ice-cold Coca-Cola!"

Why not, if there's one game this sort of advertising would fit in it's this.

Didn't the original Deus Ex have satirical fake advertisements that commented on the nature of a commercialised society? Haven't played it in years, so I don't remember. Would be awfully ironic.

Hell, the idea of real life ads in a setting like that of Deus Ex to begin with is ironic.

Already pre-ordered and I'm not gonna be fussed either way, but still. Irony.

So you're not buying the game because it has in-game advertising that contextually makes sense? It sounds to me like you're just having a knee-jerk reaction, and didn't think about it at all beyond the headline. I know it's cool to say "f*** the man, video games are about ART", but at some point, you need to step back and think about what that actually means.

And you need to step back and respect someone else' opinion. I'm assuming you aren't paying for his game right? But the game was cheaper then most released today so I'm fine with the advertising myself. Even if it's only $5 its better then paying more like Skyrim and Rage.

Big deal, it's been done in games for at least 5-10 years now. I mean look at racing games, they have them all the time(NFS, Gran Turismo etc.) As long as it's in the background and not intrusive then it's fine, actually adds to the urban atmosphere.

What opinion? He made a statement. And you know what? It did come off as "games are not about money". So sue me? I don't understand where your indignation is coming from.

Deus Ex costs 39 € on retail. Any other just launched game costs 55 € or more. I think I can live with the publicity.

This is where I see the problem...selling space to real ads in a game setting like Deus Ex kills the creativity of the fake ones...which can be truely hilarious or really thought-provoking, as I'm sure anyone who's played New Vegas can tell you...DC comics did a pretty good job with coming up with fake brands in their comics as well, Soder Cola anyone?

I'm playing New Vegas now and I've spent a good amount of time in the game reading all the posters and billboards and such and I really would just be passing them by if they were for real porducts.

Advertising in movies and TV shows is commonplace so it's just become acceptable, It kinda makes me laugh when people kick up a fuss because a video game is doing it. If it's acceptable for one media to do it then all media should be able to. It's not really bad as long as it stays relevent to the game's universe like in movies the advertisements don't really seem out of place for the setting so we hardly notice them.

The only advertising in games i'm not personally keen on is advertising DLC in game i think it's sort of cheap to make you feel like you have to get the DLC.You shouldn't have an uncompleted quest in game just because you need to buy DLC to actually do it.

It is far from acceptable to put advertisements in a game anyone has to pay for. I cancelled my cable llong ago I was tired of advertising. It was also because I live in Canada and thus TV here sucks in general its all old reruns the USA dont want anymore.

But still advertisements in something you pay for is lame. You want to provide a game cheap or free then we will talk. If the game was 20 dollars I would go for it. Don't tell me its cheaper  because of the adds. Every online store I buy from in the USA and Canada all have it priced at $60. Even brick and mortar stores here have it cost $60.

so how can anyone have the gall to say its cheaper. I am not buying this game as soon as I saw in game advertisments I immideiatly stopped looking up info. Though I think I will on the net download a better version for free that has no adds. If the adds in that case are still there so what it was free.

that is how I look at it anything with adverts should be free of very cheap. I am not paying $60 for a game putting up with adverts. Furthermore I dont want this commonplace if I want to buy something I buy it. I have the iinternet I dont need to be told what to buy.

I would like a human revolution. Although instead of cyber implants and the like the human revolution is about advertising being perged from humanity. Or better still advertisiers are perged from the gene pool.

Again I will say I dont deem advertising acceptable at all. I avoid all media because of adverts and now advertisiers want to infect games with that. For sanity reasons I need a place free of advertisement. Makes you laugh thanks to people like you garbage like this happens.

I really don't understand your viewpoint. Sure, TV ad breaks are annoying but they do have their uses. For example, if something is being released(game, book, movie, tv show etc) most of the time people find out about it through ads or trailers. It's become such a central par tof media that if you want a life free of ads then I suggest living under a rock in a cave on Mars.

After a day of playing it, the closest thing I've seen to in-game adverstising was this:

Which was pretty darn funny. If thats an example of in game advertising, I want more of it. Posted Image

Uh....so? It doesn't negatively impact the game in any way unless you're one of those "Corporations are the devil, man" people. Plus, it also adds some realism to the game world. There are adds in real life, so why would they not be in a game world that aims to draw you in?

I think it's actually pretty cool, because it gives you a moment of, "hey, I know what that is". I don't see anything wrong with in-game advertising.

However, if there are ever actual commercials, (like what have taken over movie theater previews), I would not be especially pleased. Those don't belong in video games, imho.

So yeah, turns out there is hardly any real advertising at all. I'm about 10 hours in and don't recall seeing any. All over the streets there are billboards and signs advertising fake products and companies, nothing real.
