I recently did a fresh install of Windows 7, 64-bit edition. I applied all patches, including SP1, prior to doing anything else. Now, ME 2, as well as ME 1, will not install? I'll have a thread posted in the ME 1 section, but thought I would mention it in case it help solve the issue.
Trying to install ME 2, I have tried compatability mode for Windows XP SP2, Vista SP2, and Windows 7, no service pack, and they all fail.
Has anyone else ran into this issue?

1) Disable UAC in windows7.
2) I have recently installed on 32bit and 64bit win7 so I know it can work.
3) Post some specs and post EXACTLY what happens when it fails, and what kind type purchase it is, ie origns, steam, disk.
4) Was ME1 the Value Games edition or origin dl?
If you are having trouble running the game, have you run it as administrator?

Intel Core 2 Duo, E7400 @ 2.80GHz
6GB of RAM
My account is a normal user account, but I attempted the installation while logged in with the administrator account. Once I begin the installation, it asks you for the serial number and where to install it. I get through that portion just fine.
The actual installer begins, and somewhere around 20% or 30%, the window pops up, with Grunt, and the message is "Installation Failed Due To Data Error."
ME 2 and ME 1 are both physical copies, ME 1 purchased from Best Buy and ME 2, it's the collectors edition, purchased directly from EA's web site.
I don't know how to disable the UAC in Windows 7. Can it be turned back on once I get ME2 installed?

The one thing I forgot to mention is that I do have McAfee VirusScan Enterprise + AntiSpyware Enterprise 8.8 installed.

Disable antivirus, disable UAC, and retry install.
Does the box on ME1 say value games if it does then that MAY be the issue.
Do you have more than one dvd drive?? If yes try alternate drive.

I did all of that, and the install still fails. Never even makes it to disk #2. As for my ME 1 disk, it does not have value games on it. It is a single disk, with no others. I'll try picking up a second dvd drive tomorrow and see if that solves it.
Thanks for the help MCSuperSport.

Tried a different DVD drive. No change. Going to try and do a re-install of Windows and install ME 2 before SP1.

Installing ME2 before SP1 shouldn't help. If it does, it's a coincidence that works because something that was on your system before redoing Windows isn't there anymore. I'm going to bet it's the McAfee which is difficult to fully disable, by design. I have installed ME2 on a Vista32 and 7x64 system with no troubles (during the install). One had AVG and the other MS Security Essentials.

I am having the exact same problem.
I recently reinstalled windows 7 on my computer (64 bit version) and I'm running MS Security Essentials.
The direct download version of ME2 through Origin fails with "A data error has occured". I got so desperate I bought the game cheap on CD, and here disk 2 fails with an error.
I have tried disabling all security, installing from safe mode, and the direct download I've tried downloading both through Origin and the online shop, where I bought it. So far I am at my fourth response to EA support, and the same supporter continues to tell me to try deleting my downloaded files and try again.
What finally worked for me was an install with the cds while in windows safe mode with no network enabled. This is some weird problem I tell you, well no matter here's to being able to Shepard again :-)

The digital downloads, all of them, don't keep performing data integrity checks during the downloads, and too many people are using WiFi in "dirty" electronic environments. For digital copies, go back to a hard-wired download, get your virus protection programs under control, and choose a browser that just gets on with business, like Opera.
EA has a couple of kinds of on-disk copy protection that they don't admit to including on game disks that cause problems with DVDs and DVD Burner Drives.

^^Steam has a "Verify Integrity of Game Cache" function, so while it may not check during the download, it can check for errors and correct them afterwards.
