I've recently bought and pieced together my new gaming rig with my father, for my birthday. We ran into no trouble until we had to install the OS, it gave me a Corrupt Files crap error several times and finally by removing all but 1 stick of 4gb memory we got the OS to install smoothely.

Now when I go to install Dragon age 1 or 2 from the disc it begins the install but then almost immediately like at 3%, it comes up with an error saying Install Failed (and I believe corrupt data too not sure). I tried copying the files over to a folder and installing that way (same error almost immediately).

Is my Optical Drive bad? or my HDD? All pieces of the rig are brand new. Idk if perhaps the original error I got from trying to install Windows 7 was because of a Bad HDD or Optical Drive or Perhaps I have bad RAM?

Sorry to post a story here but I am at a loss, and quite frankly having an awful birthday with this new headache.
Any assistance on the matter both tech wise and game tech wise would be appreciated! :)

My email is Dvandread@yahoo.com

Thanks, Kevin

You could have bad ram, but also likely you have either a bad cable, bad drive, a drive that needs a firmware update, or a bad HDD. The cheapest would be to get new cable if you don't already have spares laying around, after that check connections, use a different DVD drive, swap HDD and finally swap ram. The fact that you had two instances of corruption leads me to believe it is in either the DVD area or ram area, with heavy leanings toward the DVD. Also it could be a powersupply issue depending on how the cables are run and how much psu you have, ie if the HDD and the DVD are running on the same wire and the psu is already peaked out it can cause weird issues as well.

Well when I got the OS to work I had to remove all but 1 stick of 4gb ram, could that be a sign that its my RAM? I'm really at a loss here all I want is for the pc to install and play the games I play :( and this is horrible that I have to go through all this erroring.

It may be, you can try swapping RAM sticks to see if you get a change but it could be you are moving a cable or less RAM slows down the data from a bad drive/cable due to less memory. So unless you have a way to test them, you will be substituting items to narrow the issue, or taking it to a professional. I just had a computer bsod and ended up rebuilding it, plus my son's, and upgrading to win7 over the last two weeks, so I have some sympathy for getting the bugs out of new computers.

There is also a known error with many of the DAO and DA2 retail disks throwing errors with newer DVD drives, particularly RW drives, so the two issues may be unrelated. See the solutions round-up thread pinned to the top of this forum for more information. You may also have issues with your multi-core processor and DAO once you get the system running correctly. Again, see the solutions round-up thread for directions for setti g core affinity if it is an issue.

As mentioned, you should probably get the hardware situation stabilized first.
