Won't be getting this. What a waste.
How is it a step back? It's just filler DLC until the next story-based one. Mass Effect 2 had the same exact DLC release plan, yet they never took "a step back." It was a good system that allowed BioWare to dish out smaller content packages to keep us somewhat sated while they took the time to complete a substantial, story DLC.
Think before you post next time, please.

Are you having the same problems as I am then? Are the two sets of Rogue armor the same model/textures?Monica21 wrote...
As much as I like having Loghain stuff, I'm disappointed at the extreme over-simplification of his character in the codex entry for Arms of Mac Tir. <_< Really, the only good thing about it is the mention of the square of red silk. It's okay though, my Hawke keeps the faith, especially since Loghain is still alive.
Or is it just me =/

They do have the same models and textures, including Mage and Warrior, but I thought the Arms of Mac Tir really did have a red square on it. Maybe not? Because, very disappointing if so.redBadger14 wrote...

Boy... seems like that last comment could be directed at of people. Anyways...
I was referring to the fact that the Bioware team had produced a fairly good product (in my view) with Legacy. Now they release another item pack which numerous people have indicated before that they didn' t want. This is smple attempt to get cash for something that isn't worth it. That to me is a step back.
Next time think before you reply.

And they're going to be discussing the next "story" DLC at PAX this week, so just wait a few days.
I'm perfectly fine with the art department being tasked to come up with item models while all the designers are working on more substantial DLC (it's not like making these items steals a ton of resources from anywhere else).

Look at the post prior to this one, the first Item Pack was successful. Not to mention, the similar formula for Mass Effect 2 worked.Lord Nikon 001 wrote...

Again, its not a step back, its a way of having constant DLC of some form being pumped out in between the meaty and awesome DLC's like Legacy. Don't get too worked up yet, if anything, this new Item Pack was expected to have happened at some point.

I remember the days when the game came with the items when you bought it, and you didn't have to shell out (1 sixth of the initial price) later...
Buying this crap just encourages them (and other companies) to keep releasing this crap. Sorry, but it's true. Stop trying to justify what should have never been in the first place.

Surprise, DLC didn't exist when there was little to no way to distribute it.
There was no post-release content except for expansion packs, what you had in the game was what you got. If they didn't release any item packs, you wouldn't have noticed anything that you'd deem missing from the original game.

Pretty much spot on. The truth of the matter is that the entire business model has changed. Once upon a time, a company had the one shot to capitalize on a project (the actual release). Now, you can get away with a shorter development time and recoup any initial loss with small content releases until the next large project comes out.
My opinion is that this model lowers game quality overall since a company doesn't have to strive to have a perfect game out the door (a complete package if you will), instead release a less complete product with the intention to 'fill in the gaps' later.

My problem isnt about dishing out extra money for dlc, its more the fact that its pointless to buy the product until its done with its "dlc release run" because until that is done you are not going to get the full experience.
I play mmorpg's most of my gaming time so i dont really have the time (nor the will) to play through a game 5 times its more of a filler on patch day's (heh), so i usually wait until the games been out for awhile and they have released all the dlc they plan on releasing and then play them and tbh its alot more rewarding to play games this way (and i plan on doing this with me3 as well), dlc is fine its just that i rather see the old school 20+ hour expansions then 1-2 hour dlc, because im not gonna replay a game for an additional 2 hour's of gameplay however i would for something abit more robust timewise.

That's bull. None of the DLC for either DAO or ME2 had anything to do with the main story, they were all self contained, therefore you didn't miss anything for not getting them.limpan21 wrote...
Playing a "complete" game nowadays compared to 5 years ago is a extremly water'd down experience, compare playing da:o without any of the dlc and your missing out on alot of the STORY of the game, making the whole game experience alot less then a full dlc run, same hold's true with mass effect 2.

I quite agree. Don't suppose anyone is feeling charitable enough to post some pictures at some point? Particularly of mage and rogue outfits.

But yet again I'll bring up Mass Effect 2. BioWare released "filler" DLC like the Aegis Pack and the Tesla Gun, yet no one criticised them. No one thought the DLC's were "a step back." They were what they were, and that is DLC that keeps you occupied to a certain extent until the next huge, story-driven DLC can be released.
Also, think of it this way. If BioWare never released these filler DLC's, the item packs and the lot, then we would be having way more people complain on the forums about how "they dont tell us anything" or "OMG whens the next DLC gonna be here" or what have you.
What these filler DLC's do is ensure the company is doing something. We know they arent just sitting in the BioWare office biding their time. Not all of us like item packs, sure. And obviously many of us prefer story-based DLC over item pack DLC's. But it's something that we know BioWare put the time into it to create. Something is better than nothing.
Why do you think some people order appetizers before their main course? So they have something to eat while the likely wait a while for their main course to be cooked and brought out. Simple as that.

I remember them too. Developers had to get all the content they wanted in the game on the limited space disc. Once they made the game that was it. There was no medium to release additional content.
If you seriously think the two item packs were actually complete before Dragon Age II had gone gold, you're crazy. The item packs aren't some weird unlock for content that's already in the game, its brand new content. In this game industry, present day, there needs to be more of that. It allows the developers to bring more variety to a game through the internet medium where previously they are restricted by the limitations of disc software.
And buying crap? I'd like to see you try to do anything it takes to make DLC like BioWare makes. Or anything games.
Computer programming alone proves how difficult this industry is. And those of you who have programmed before, you know what I am talking about.
Most difficult years of my schooling thats for sure.

Sounds like people should have criticized. Wouldn't know. Didn't play Mass Effect. Just because Mass Effect people accept filler DLC's doesn't mean Dragon Age people should.redBadger14 wrote...

Seems a strange argument to me: "These other players of this different game thought Item Packs were good, quality DLC's, so Dragon Age players should, too!" Or am I misunderstanding your point?
In this case, though, it's not appetizers. It's different colored napkins. Maybe a slightly sharper knife. A more colorful floral arrangement in the middle of the table. Nothng that affects the actual meal. Just... what's the word? Oh, right. Filler. Why do you think some people order appetizers before their main course? So they have something to eat while the likely wait a while for their main course to be cooked and brought out. Simple as that.
