Is an "Awakening-level" expansion planned for DA2?

I can understand from a short term cost standpoint why they wouldn't want to make an expansion, but thinking long term, it would be the best way to revive people's excitement and truly rebuild the reputation of this series, which would do wonders for the sale of future games. It's something for them to consider at least.

I'd love an expansion too and honestly, I think it would be in their best interest to make one. Think about it. A slew of decent but mediocre DLC for Origins and the overall lower quality of DA2 has significantly lowered the reputation of this franchise. Getting new interest in DA3 in the wake of all that is going to be an uphill battle. They are slowly building their reputation back up with the quality DLCs they are releasing, but that will only go so far. If they want to show that they can turn things around, they need to do something truly great and DLC is just too short to do that.

Also, considering it's been said that DA3 will feature a new protagonist, an expansion is likely the only way to Hawke's story some kind of satisfying conclusion that fills in all of the loose ends left open by the ending of DA2.

I would be suprised if by late fall/early 2012 we don't hear bout a new full retail dragon age game going for a yearly installment production (lets say Dragon Age: Exalted Marches) that will conclude Hawke's story and adds all the adjustments & additions the DLC is experimenting on us with
I suspect bioware wants to get out of the corner DA2 got them in as quickly as possible & start fresh with a perfectly working engine from DA2 (if they have common sense anyway, debatible i admit) then Dragon Age 3 sometime in 2013 or so
DA3 being sooner rather than later is probably a good idea, given that the bulk of the series' sales is on consoles and within the next couple of years, the successors to the 360 and PS3 will be announced, making DA3 look archaic. I don't even know how BioWare is planning to keep save transfers going if the next round of consoles can't read the saves with the current round. Considering the poor PS2 support on the PS3 (and poor is putting it meekly), you really can't rely on Sony here at all.

This is probably one of the reasons I like DA2 over DAO.... I love this sort of story. Hero's Journeys are great and all, but in storyline terms:
"the world sucks but you can fix it" type of stories just don't do it for me that much.
I much prefer a story along the lines of : "the world sucks, and you can't change that, but you can try your hardest and maybe... at the end of the day... you'll have made things just a little bit better than they would have been without you."
I dont mind that style of story much to be entirely honest.
I was fine about how reactive Hawke was right up until about 3/4 of the way thru act 3, then it got just nonsensical. It like many things in DA2 was implemented poorly.
The ending felt like the game had slapped me in the face and laughed at me while saying that nothing I did had matterred and playing the game was pointless.
The ending SHOULD have gone something like this:-
Up until the end both Orsino and Meredith are behaving irrationally due to the stress of the situation they are in; but both of them have legitimate fears and worries about the whole thing.
Therefore the main boss, and who had the Lyrium Idol should have been ENTIRELY dependant on which side Hawke picks.
If he/she sides with the mages then you find it is Meredith thats gone loopy, had the idol forced into a powerful sword for herself, and tries to squash you and the mages.
If he/she sides with the Templars (because lets face it the amount of Blood Mages native to Kirkwall is frightening and there is a logic to applying the Right of Annulment here) then you discover that Orsino has fallen into insanity and resorted to blood magic; and will have forged the idol into a weapon/staff for himself. And then HE would be the end boss.
To solve the difficult question of one of the power players surviving to the end and being able to exonerate Hawke' for his/her involvement to the Inquisitors there should have been a cut scene where Meredith slaughters Orsino, or Orsino kills Meredith before Hawke can react. And then perhaps raises their rival using the magic of the idol to fight for them.
You then fight them.
The result is pretty much the same with the above "ending" I proposed; Hawke was still being reactive and having very little control over the situation but changing which one was the main baddie depending on Hawke's choices of who to suppport during the game makes it feel like Hawke matters even if he/she is only reacting to whats going on around him/her.
It makes the ending have weight that it doesnt have currently.
If the ending had been like that I wouldnt have felt as empty and sad about how crap it was.
Similar ending, better more sensible implementation

Anyway right now every time I finish the battle with the Qunari leader I delete the character and re-start her again.. it sux but, is way better that to suffer act3 end. lol!
I do like how the character has a voice and all but, gosh.. give this character a better ending, oh and remember hawke is not the warden so leaving with his unicorn and Li while Thedas is going down hills is fail. Not sure of any champion/hero that would do such a thing.. It just make this character looks crazy/idiotic or not worth of a title. ( my opinion)
Anyway Hawke do not need to hide/flee/kill himself/herself because s/he is NOT part of any ORDER, so please someone comes up with a good end even if at the end Varric say: "Hawke leave looking for his Father's golden pants! Yes, the same pair of pants that will unite Thedas!"
Just make the pants looks epic that way we can say:" well at least the pants are unique and hawke will totally needs them!", thats a better end than seen the one you side with going nuts and the champion/hero fleeing/disapearing at the end of the game.( My opinion)

Retour en haut
