I mean, it's either that or institute regular jumping off tall buildings practice.

Warden Recruits, welcome to Base-Jumping 101. You'll be learning how to make properly leaps off towers and other tall buildings incase you ever need to jump on the back of an Arch Demon.

True, true. Though I like thinking that there is a dragon ranch somewhere in Thedas, and there are recreational aerial romps around the canyons for 5 silver an hour.thats1evildude wrote...

Riordan did have a brief jaunt on the archdemon-dragon in DA:O. Now, had there been a saddle and some reins, it might have turned out differently for him.
Or one other blade. I mean, Duncan pulled it off in the Calling because he had two blades to stick into that dragon.
Actually, I really imagine a dragon-riding cutscene in a future DLC to have this as the voice-over:
Varric: I sh*t you not, Seeker, it was a dragon.
Cassandra: *crosses arms and looks indignant* The Champion of Kirkwall? Riding a dragon?
Varris: Yes, I know it sounds impossible, but it’s true. Would I lie to you?
Cassandra: *arches an eyebrow*
Varric: …yes, well…so Hawke jumps on this dragon and flies to Tevinter –
Cassandra: Why Tevinter?
Varric: Because they had awakened a magister.
Cassandra: A magister? One of the magisters?
Varric: The very same. So Hawke and the dragon circle the tallest towers, and with the merest command from the Champion, the dragon arches its head back and then belches a torrent of unholy fire and lightning upon the structures, scorching them to a crisp! The towers crumbled and -
Cassandra: Unholy fire and lightning? Really, Dwarf –
Varric: *sighs* Fine, fine. Maybe it wasn’t a dragon. *flashes a winning smile* Would you believe a griffon?
Cassandra: What?
Varric: You really know how to kill my immersion.

It's my belief that griffins exist in a wild state on an uncharted island. My suspicion of this is even stronger given Mike Laidlaw's comment "At this point I can only promise statues" regarding griffins.

Then I hope Gaider's upcoming book will feature Wynne ending up shipwrecked on this island.

DA Dragons seems to possess some capacity for intelligent thought, mainly the High Dragons when it comes to protecting their vast clutches of dragonlings. I have no idea how the communication function works between a dragon and the cultists worshipping it, but I'm sure it goes along the lines of if you do something wrong, you probably end up dead. Enough people turn up dead, the rest kinda go 'oh, make a note NOT to do that.'
Maybe Kolgrim's Horn is a clue, considering he was carrying it and the High Dragon in Haven only attacks if you use the horn.
That's what I'm wondering, granted I know the codex isn't the be all end all of info, but it says the dragons protect their young and kills anyone who comes near. So that should be on that "Do not do" list, but the cultist are near their young and not being killed. So they must have a more advanced mean of communication.
From the demos and coverage mostly. Your character in Skyrim is "Dragonborn" I guess that means your characters mom was a sexual deviantblaidfiste wrote...
Where are you getting all this info on Skyrim? The official site is annoying.

It even looked like the Cultist had trained some of the Dragonlings and Drakes, since they were fighting side by side without turning on the cultists in the middle of combat. I think the training of dragons is highly feasible, considering the existence of the dragon cults and their relationship with their dragons.
It's hard to think some crazy loon somewhere in Thedas didn't sit there one day and go 'you know what i'm going to do today? Try to tame a dragon." I can only imagine the failed and lethal attempts at doing so.

Well in Awakenings you can take a dragon egg for Wade so why not be able to take and hatch one?

I always wondered why Wade needed an ENTIRE Dragon Egg. I hope he didn't kill the hatchling... the poor thing.

He did, since he needed the liquid of the egg to make Vigilance:
What a lovely specimen! But dragonbone is so very hard. I need a diamond--yes, that will do--and a balm of great strength to keep the sword from burning my hands. The liquid from a fresh dragon's egg will also come in handy, I should think. Shouldn't be a problem for you. Oh, and a flame rune--grandmaster caliber. Do hurry!

It may just be one of Varrics exaggerations like him taking out Bartrands men single handedly...
I wish that was actually true because that was absolutely fun to witness.
Back to dragons... if they communicate through their blood, how does a Dragon 'speak' with potential followers/slaves on the very first meeting, before they've had dragon's blood? It's not any easily obtained ingredient and I don't think a Dragon would be too willing to part with their own blood on a first meeting.

Hawke has a dragon bone necklace that was made for him from the fire gland. He kills lots of them.

It was funny, I remember the first time I played it and I was like "What the... Where did everyone go? Umm and why am I in Varric's body?"
Would be great to have a story around a griffon but I would want to keep it

If my Hawke found a Griffon, they'd give it to Merrill. Certainly not going to hand it over to some silly First Warden in Anderfels.
Sure why not? She could use it's blood to try and purify someother obscure Elvhan artifact.
