That is an issue with execution and not conception. Most everyone rightly finds the execution of DA2 to be lacking but the question for many is rather the conception is flawed.

Well, many of the DA2 flaws were related to the devs and not the time limit. Reuse of same dungeons and spaces is unerstandable for me. Graphical design is prolly the hardest part of making the game. But lack of choices, complete and unreal change of battle mechanics, ( dagger pinch = Kaboooom!), barely visible DAO choices impact. That is not the fault of the time limit.

Well, i'm a lore fanatic so I gave DAO a pure 10. Mostly because the change of Elf stereotype amazed me.

Because these so-called "core fans" are the important ones!

The long and the short of it is this, they drop a few lines, ppl run with the rumours and it gives them the hype and interest they are looking for. It placates ppl and makes them so curious that by the time the new game comes out (that has nothing to do with any of the rumours or previous games) they can still make a buttload of money and deal with the backlash later.

I love this game, both sets, it had a lot of potential to be completely different than anything else out there and to an extent (cause I like it) it is different. But I am starting to understand the musical map and I am so disappointed I could just <insert depressing action here>.

With that said, I cannot say if I will be as excited when DA3 comes out. It is Bioware's prerogative to take the game anywhere they want. Just like it was with the Wachowski brothers. The Matrix was phenomenal, the second one was "ok" but still had a lot of potential and the 3rd one made me want to take my brain out and stomp on it. We fans are our own worst enemies in this, speculation and thought is something we should never have, it will only frustrate and kill us in the end.

People are actually capable of being fan of both Age Origins and Dragon Age 2, myself included.

It's ridiculous how people (and I don't necessarily mean you here, Thori) act as if there are actual camps. Mention you like Dragon Age 2, and you get a ****storm sent your way consisting of people unleashing their seemingly neverending rage and sense of superiority. Mention you don't like Dragon Age 2, and you get a ****storm sent your way consisting of people unleashing their seemingly neverending annoyance and sense of superiority.

Thankfully it seems as if we've finally reached a point where people are starting to cool off, but of course there will always be threads like these drawing people off-topic (I myself being guilty as charged) and starting the whole thing all over again.

And don't even get me started on how most of the hype-related disappointment is at the very least excruciatingly amusing to watch. BioWare adds a Dragon Age 2 referencing card in the Origins box, then months later announce the project has been set back to a later date, and my God. The amounts of ****ing and whining and crying that hit the forums on the second of Februari has got to be some sort of record.

I'm not saying people who are disappointed they didn't get to see or hear anything new from the PAX panel are to blame themselves, mind you, but is there actually any proof at all BioWare announced there would be concrete information released at PAX about a future story related DLC?

I loved both games as well. Unfortunately some people just treat that as a third camp, populated by fanboys. I thought DA2 made some massive strides, both in presentation and in gameplay. It didn't all work, necessarily, but then again DAO wasn't perfect either. This "combining the best of both worlds" idea is a fine way to go.

People just need to open their minds a bit and let go of some preconceived notions. It's not the end of the world if a game doesn't conform to their ideal of what a "true RPG" is supposed to be. Some things may seem like they get worse, but other people might see those as improvements, and their opinion is no less valid than anyone else's. (In other words, they are equally unimportant. :P)

Sometimes I read my posts and listen to myself and i realize how big an **** am I for condemning people who have different taste than I have. Very immature. I actually am one of the people who like both games, and I'm eager to see DA3. What triggered my rage recently is really this PAX, like many of ppl here. Listening how Warden's story is over while Hawke's is continuing almost made me cry. I had nothing against Hawke untill yesterday. Now they are highlighting Hawke like he is some superbeing, and Warden is unworthy of having his own story brought to a closure. It's like Bioware despise their own creation. I love Warden, and I'm much more connected to him than to Hawke. Making him LESS important than Hawke is surely a way to ****** me off.

The Warden was in Origins, about five DLCs and an expansion pack. Hawke has been in DA2 and Legacy. Do the math, of course they're gonna do more Hawke stuff.

It is allright Thori. I love both games, but properly comes across as fantical pro da2 or something because I feel that I have to defend it against people who do nothing both whine without being constructive. I think Hawke will only be continued in dlc or perhaps an expansion. We get an all new person in da3

No, no! I don't expect to see Warden in DA2 DLC. DA2 is for Hawke. Let him have it. but in DA3, I want more respect for our Warden. i want him equall as Hawke, not less important in mage-templar war just because hes a GW. or some such.

This.

I think people are just making wild assumptions about vague statements, then raging about whatever they come up with.

Personally I came out of it with the same impression esper had, that Hawke will continue in DLC for DA2, then we'll get a new person for DA3. No, they didn't say that, though.

The Warden was a very important person, and so was/is Hawke. Person #3 will be important too. I really don't think it's necessary or helpful to try to quantify their importance and have some kind of peen-measuring contest.

Yeah, that's what i'm hanging on now. Hearing that new protagonist will be introduced in DA3 really made my day. I guess we all just wonder now if it will be new origins or set protagonist. Origins would bring more people. Some people don't like playing the human race. Others want to play as dwarves or Qunari. Bringing back Origins would be a major improvement.:)

The thing is you can right fully ask: Why should you warden care. If s/he gets involved a lot of people are going to be angry and scream retcon.
I see them both a heroes too, but Fereldan is sort of the country no one takes seriously so while you no doubt is awesome there your wardens popularity will properly not be wide spread in the rest of Thedas. That said, I don't think Hawke is popular either. I mean normal people properly don't praise her/him for the symbolic sperhead of war thing.

It is. It's really hard to make multi-branching stories and dialouge when you have 18 months to work with. Especially something with the scale DA:O had.

JRPGs are way of to what RPGs are. They are great story wise and so on but they are certainly not RPGs. But calling DA2 a JRPG is harsh. I am currently watching a Let's Play (from the legendery Necroscope86) of FFVII and I can see *why* it isn't an RPG, and also can see how DA2 is not a JRPG.

and almost impossible to play. I think that the qunari doens't have much choice in the choices they make.
