Will Origin be required to play ME3, now that Multiplayer has been confirmed?

This post on Escapist has me a bit worried.

This seems like a huge invasion of privacy. From the comments posted, it sounds like Origin will monitor everything you do on your computer. And it's mandatory if you use Origin at all. You can't turn it off.

I've been waiting impatiently for ME3 and will continue to do so until release, unless they are forcing something like this on us.

EDIT So now it seems Multiplayer is being included. Will this affect whether or not Origin is required to install and play ME3?

As has been discussed in this thread, I have no interest in ever having Origin installed on my PC in its present form.

LOL I love how some people say "its fighting piracy"... by violating the privacy of people who legitimately bought the game.

If only companies realized DRM can cost them as much money as it is supposed to save just by angering the legit consumers through ridiculous authentification software. All of them should learn a lesson from From Dust

This isn't even about a DRM.. The DA2 DRM was fine by me. From the quotes of the EULA in the article, it seems they will be taking non gaming information from our systems and giving it to unnamed third parties.

Origin is a terrible piece of DRM that exceeds Valve in terms of privacy invasion in too many areas. I have argued this topic more times than I have argued whether ME2 is an RPG or not. Origin will be required to play ME3, just like BF3 and all of their other future games; count on it.

Wow, they monitor everything you do...what a joke...

Now I'm actually glad I have to play games on the 360.

I highly recommend using your antivirus to quarantine Origin. When not in use.

Just so you know, BF3 will require you to sign up for Origin, regardless of platform. Not sure about anything else.

YES but Valve ummm sucks because ummm Half-Life 3 isn't out yet and I had a bad experience with customer survice once and ummm yeah Origin is better because valve doesn't do it.
(really the anti steam people have nothing after this)

This is why cracks were invented. Look, Imma buy the game but I REFUSE to give them permission to root around like a boss in my rig.

I even got annoyed with having to disc check for ME2. So I made an image and mount that.

Someone tried to tell me that because Episode 3 wasn't out that Steam was terrible. I love how they are totally related and how it is somehow Valve's obligation to release the game when people demand it. Such is the life of an EA fanboy.

This is a case in which I would support someone paying for the game and then simply pirating it to get around Origin. As long as you still give the developers money I fail to see the issue.

No, but the game will require you to make an Origin account upon release.

hmm I never thought if it like this.  IF ME3 makes you use Origin than I'll buy the game and then pirate it without even opening the box.
They kept their paying customer and me doing that shouldn't hurt anything.

Um, well I don't have Xbox LIVE...so does that change anything?

If you're on the BSN, you already have an Origin account.

Well you wouldn't be able to play online obviously, but that's about it.

Precisely. This idea of having free reign/honesty check is a trend that sucks.

What? Where do you get this from?

Not the same. Just because you have an account does not mean you installed what amounts to a rootkit on your pc.

EDIT: To clarify - the thing in the article is an app that resides in notification area.

Email which I got from EA a while back, stating the EA account I was using was going to be changed to an Origin account and it wouldn't change much of anything. If you're on these boards, you're using an EA account.
