Will Origin be required to play ME3, now that Multiplayer has been confirmed?

I didn't mind the collect thing, but this... This is a real problem.

This software will check your system and delete your games if you dont use them. What were you saying about EA not being able to do much on your system ?
I call being able to erase data from a system being able to do a LOT. Oh hey... you havent used ME 3 in 2 weeks, we will just erase you system including savegames.
This software scans your system... thats just great so if EA decide you have something on your system you arent using enough they can potentially wipe it. Now if someone at EA messes up that software all it takes is for it to remove wrongly named folders, files and data for things to go horribly wrong.

How do you work that one out ? What it says is that if you don't use your Origin account for 2 years it'll be closed. It doesn't do anything to games installed on your system.

"If you have not used your Entitlements or Account for twenty four (24) months or more and your Account has associated Entitlements, your Entitlements will expire and your Account may be cancelled for non-use."

Whatever...at this point I'm tired of explaining the same obvious points over and over just to be countered by the same idiocy over and over...because, as we all know Gaming news-sites exist only to spread fear and mis-information and that EA only made those changes to the wording of the EULA to make it an even better read and not because people have an issue with what it says.

It's been stated before, every EULA ever has this sort of stuff in it. BSN blows everything out of proportion again. What a surprise.

I wish I was in the tinfoil hat business, I'd make a fortune on here :)

If Origin is required, i may not get to play ME3, which is a shame but I have little faith with a software that could potentially sell my info to anyone. However i will see when it comes out, i'll likely give into getting it for ME3, maybe if there is enough backlash with BF3 then maybe they change it. Until then me completing Shepherds story is getting less likely.

Oh, what a marvellous suggestion. Did you ever heard about blocking unwanted traffic? It seems you are not. Ok, here is a new information for you: You don't have to turn of your computer. There exists a nice tool named firewall. Do you heard about it? It's like magic. Ahh, the second way if you don't trust these wizard tools: You can also remove the network cable. Do you know that? Surprisingly simple.
That's the usually way to protect yourself and EA want to crack it! And not only that.
What a new wonderful shining world of games.

Nope. If they really want to go this way they have to go without me. I'm glad I didn't order ME3 yet and I hope the amount of sheeps isn't that high.

Reading these posts saying it's fear-mongering just baffle me. It's not about fear: it's about giving up your right to privacy. Maybe these people live in a country where cavity searching is a daily ritual and see no wrong here. But for the rest of the civilized world it's problematic. Promoting this behavior for corporations is ridiculous. Stand up for your rights and not what some box top says you have to do.

I dont want to use Origin, I refuse to have more of this **** spyware installed on my system.
Apparantly non-use of Origin voids your account and entitlements.

Great... so if Origin is required to play a game and you dont use Origin for two years. Your account goes *poof* and thus you cannot play the game anymore.

That kind of **** works for an MMO, but a SP game has no sense in forcing this kind of garbage so EA can datamine systems at their leisure and sell that information to whoever pays them.

It does not. It is restricted to these. "You agree that EA may collect, use, store and transmit technical and related information that identifies your computer (including the Internet Protocol Address), operating system, Application usage (including but not limited to successful installation and/or removal), software, software usage and peripheral hardware". Nowhere does it say scan your whole computer which would take hours and consume far too many resources and have far too big files exporting when you connected online.

When you install any game it already scans those areas. It is limited to the game functionality and installed programs os and those listed.

So EA can scan (and sell the info) :

*information that identifies your computer (including the Internet Protocol Address)
*operating system
*Application usage
*software
*software usage
*peripheral hardware

You do understand that means they can scan your entire harddisk right? You don't see anything wrong with a corporation doing all of the above?

Invincible Hero's already covered that in the post you quoted. EULA's are catch-alls, you need to read the privacy policy they have to follow.

tos.ea.com/legalapp/WEBPRIVACY/US/en/PC/

IV and VI in particular.

I believe it has been said that while you will have to use Origin to get DLC and such for ME3, you will not have to be logged into it or have it on to play. So while it seems you have to use Origin at some point, you won't have to have is on all the time.

It's the age of Apple and Facebook, too many people think all rights belong to business entities.

For everyone defending EA's EULA, I'm sick of your disingenuous assertions that "it won't do anything." Go sit in time-out.
I love Mass Effect. I'm still going to buy the 3rd game. But I will NEVER allow that kind of spyware onto my computer. Every single game I own I've cracked, or it's Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2. I have set Facebook to maximum security... which admittedly, is still way too open for my tastes.
If I buy something, I have a right to use it however I wish. That's law. I don't have to allow EA or any goddamn company to look through my PERSONAL COMPUTER just to entertain myself. That's effing ridiculous! I don't care WHAT the EULA for Origin says. If any of EA's products require it even though I bought a physical copy so I wouldn't have to deal with Fu@#ing BULL$#!T like this, then that copy will be cracked.

Or hell, I might just pirate copies and discourage all of my friends from supporting EA. As the USERS, WE can boycott this. We don't have to take this. We can stop this from ever happening. All it takes is a loud voice, and a sprinkling of controversy and the words: "VIOLATION OF PRIVACY."

Either EA wisens up, or they'll be put out of business for this kind of $#!t. I'm sure Anon could see to that.

I can't believe some people are actually defending this. I mean, I'd say -some- posts take the paranoia a bit too far. That doesn't mean what they fear wouldn't be highly possible to happen during the years. Or that it's just wrong to have this crap on their computer.

But go ahead, go eat that grass, it tastes good, no? Yum yum, I love you origin!

Yeah...I know I stormed off and said I was done like a kid Image IPB But, then again...I've been told to "put on a tin-foil hat" about so many things that I ended up being right about I never should have let it get to me...

A lot of sites are picking up and running with the Story now, most noteably for me personally is Gamespot and 1up so that's kind of countering the "fear-mongering articles" argument.

I think it's very important that those of us who have a problem with this EULA to make sure the word is spreading beyond here...

I happened to be in the middle of a DA:O playthrough when there was that 96+ hour DRM server outage and nothing was really done until the Gaming media began running stories about it...as soon as the stories appeared someone "offical" finally came here and started posting about what was happening after nearly 4 days of total silence!

I've seen a few Articles that state outright that Origin will NOT be needed to play Old Republic...so at least those players can rest easy.

TOR doesn't techically NEED Origin -- it's an MMO and as such always online and bound to a personal account anyway. :)

EDIT: Shouldn't need clarification, but anyway: the same does, of course, not apply to Mass Effect.
