The best indicator of future behavior is past behavior. I just need to look at some of the shenanigans that EA has pulled in the past to know that I want as little to do with them as possible.

If EA publishes a game made by Bioware and the only thing I'm installing is the game itself then....yeehaw!

I'm buying myself a EA/Bioware game.

Anything else?

Forget it.

Still no answer from EA or BW. I did the same as you preorder the ME3 game, and it seems to be hard to cancel the order. This is not a problem for me to handle, it is more a principle that this shouldn't be allowed to do.
And I must write I'm impressed of how many that defend EA ways of doing this.

Plenty have things have been "just business" that are reprehensible.  Buying and selling other people with the intent of forcing them to work for free was once "just business" too.

Your point?

That "it's business" is a pathetic, weak, idiotic excuse for a person or group doing something that is clearly wrong.

For me this isn't about Origin, it's about being forced to use a service that isn't associated with the game at all.

Well, this is the way things are going, and it's not really a bad thing imo.  Steam/Origins has it's pros as well.  For instance, if you bought a game from either distributor, then you have access to that game anywhere you have the internet.  You can also install the game on as many machines as you want..

I think services like Steam or Origins is a good compromise between gamers and developers.

Steam and Origin provide absolutely nothing to the gamer, they're rediculous bloated crap that serve only the "needs" of the software publishers.

Steam - steamcommunity, friendslist, cloud storage, free steamworks for mod developer? A cheap plattform for indie developer.....

Origin - spyware and downloader for ea stuff. Done.

Shouldn't something like this be illegal? If they go through with this,I'm taking a pirate copy.

This proves my point.

companies are actually encouraging piracy, not discouraging it.

That's just messed up logic mate.

No origin instals for me, under any circumstance. EA can take that crappy idea to the area where the sun never shines and stuff it there for eternity as far as I am concerned. I am not above boycotting another company that alienates its own consumers.

That's a fairly bad analogy.

And I'm sure EA cares if you boycott their games.

Well they should be. After all, it's a sale less they could gotten if they had behaved.

And you are naive if you think I'm a unique snowflake in this regard.

Well so far i've seen atleast 100 peeps on the various "will it be on steam" "do i have to use origins" threads say they won't purchase, at the UK amazon price of £28.99 thats £2899 worth of revenue lost, assuming (most likely for the sake of arguement but...) you are actually an adult with a grasp of business please point out to me a successful business that shrugs off loosing almost 3k revenue.

You'd have thought the peeps that dont care would just pass the thread by than enter posting nonsense

I sure hope Origin is required. Just to see everyone who post "omg I won't buy it on Origin" play it via Origin.
Just like all the gaylords that said they'll boycot Left 4 Dead 2 and were seen playing it day after the release.

According to EA you can set the app to show, or not, your status etc. So people like you will be none the wiser if this does happen. Plus, if it is anything like Steam games, the only ones interested will be friends which you added to show this info to. I can tell from your post that you wouldn't notice either way.

You can do that via Steam as well, which made the people from this image stupid in addition to hypocritical. :P

Sure Steam allows that. The issue here is not whether it can or cannot do this trivial online status setting, it's about the EULA and what IT demands from you.

Lets say... my friend... pirates EA games, running Origin in the back and playing them... god it must be some kind of magic but not even a single aggressive lawsuit was found in his mailbox. How could that be?

Ok, people, let's just stop pretending any of us read the End User Agreements on anything.

I remember the time when people said that they'll boycott MW2. Look how that turned out.

Let's say...your friend... that pirates EA games, is smart enough to realize that cracks circumvent authoriztion checks and shouldn't worry about nasty emails and black helicoptors.

Ok, people, let's just stop pretending any of us read the End User Agreements on anything.

I think with major gaming news sites, as well as this and many other forums, that some do indeed read the EULA's. Your dismissive hand waving antics are fun to watch though.

This is what happend if you try to cancel a order with Origin.
Funny message from their mail server.

Your message has been enqueued and undeliverable for 2 days to the following recipients:

 Recipient address: orders@origin-store.com

Not good.

Come on, there is totally no reason for EA to force Origin to all their games. Pirates will, no matter what you do, find a way to play without paying. Also, you can have access to user game data with a simple DRM. I really fail to see the point.

Maybe their server is getting bogged down by requests?

Exactly, there's really no reason for it. Now I don't have any games on Origin and I'm not planning on getting any either, so right now Origin is just taking up space on my hard drive. Although I've plenty of space left, there's no good reason for having a program that I'll never use just using up space.

I had planed to uninstal it, but now I'm not sure anymore since I don't know if ME3 will use Origin or not, even if the copy is retail. So therefore I'd appreciate it immensely if someone from Bioware or EA could confirm whether ME3 will require the use of Origin? Thereby answering the question this thread is posing.

Didn't your parents ever say to you "Just because everybody else is jumping off of a bridge that doesn't mean that you have to jump too."

That's just a nice way of saying "Don't be a freaking idiot. Start thinking for yourself."

Every single person that knows about and is interested in Mass Effect 3 has the choice to either purchase it with or without Origin or to say no to a puchase if Origin is required.

It wouldn't effect my choice in the matter one way or the other if every other person in this thread on on this board bought it regardless.

If Origin is required I won't be buying it.

And once again I'd like to say:

It should would be nice to get an answer from one of the Bioware folks about this.

x2.

What the hell are you thinking EA!? Why are you scaring paying customers away? Pirates again get a better product for heavens sake!

Seriously, this cant be legal. Though what EULA says it can do and what Origin actually does are different things but still I believe EA will have quite a mess in their hands soon...

This maybe be just anger speaking and maybe it will pass, but Mass Effect 3 will be a last game I will buy from EA/Bioware if Origin is really required and then I will have to crack the crap (literally) out of it. Ubisoft is already on my boycott list and its not like I have any particular addiction (except for seeing ME finale) for Bioware games either, they have good competition from atleast two different developers anyway.
