Will Origin be required to play ME3, now that Multiplayer has been confirmed?

Lets say... my friend... pirates EA games, running Origin in the back and playing them... god it must be some kind of magic but not even a single aggressive lawsuit was found in his mailbox. How could that be?

Ok, people, let's just stop pretending any of us read the End User Agreements on anything.

Get back under your bridge.

Not that I expect you to understand the reference...

This. 100% agree.

x2.

What the hell are you thinking EA!? Why are you scaring paying customers away? Pirates again get a better product for heavens sake!

Seriously, this cant be legal. Though what EULA says it can do and what Origin actually does are different things but still I believe EA will have quite a mess in their hands soon...

This maybe be just anger speaking and maybe it will pass, but Mass Effect 3 will be a last game I will buy from EA/Bioware if Origin is really required and then I will have to crack the crap (literally) out of it. Ubisoft is already on my boycott list and its not like I have any particular addiction (except for seeing ME finale) for Bioware games either, they have good competition from atleast two different developers anyway.

Hell, given the way both ME's and DA's storytelling went downhill to some degree in the sequels, we might each be better off with what we individually imagine the ending could be...

Mass Effect still has a chance, but since DAII flopped badly in my eyes I have no particular interest seeing it end other than mere curiosity, something which youtube can satisfy (if it comes to situation that Origin is required). ME is the only serie which I have a nagging "obligation" to finish myself with my own "canon" character and then its done. Despite its glaring and eye hurting flaws I still enjoyed ME2 throroughly, more then ME1 so I have high hopes for ME3.

I think ME2 was great. Story and game mechanics.

But.....that's an issue to debate on many of the other threads dealing with that eh? No sense sending it down a rabbit trail.

This thread is about: Will Origin be required to play ME3?

ME1 and DA:O had a certain charm (not to mention scale and scope) that their sequels lacked.

And I say that as someone who played ME2 first, then ME1.  (ME2 was a gift.)

It feels like the entire city of Kirkwall would fit into the Circle Tower in Ferelden, or the Denerim Alienage...

LOL at comments saying this must be illegal. If it was illegal, it wouldn't be in the EULA. This is what happens whe you have a "free" economy.

And all of this talk of boycotting amuses me. Do you know how much these companies get? Do you know how little they care if a few people who don't understand that EA is a business and will try to make money when it can boycott them?

True, sorry, was just thinking about the cost/benefit breakdown on getting ME3 if it requires Origin.  For me, it's just not important enough to have ME3 that I need to compromise my security and principles to get it.

Do you understand that Bioware actually listens to their fans and that they actually care about things like this?

I haven't seen anyone seriously calling for a boycott. I've seen people giving thier opinions and asking questions.

Try again. So far you're failing.

You and I are not reading the same comments, then, because I'm seeing a lot of people talking about boycotting EA.

And what does Bioware have to do with this? Absolutely nothing.

You come in with a big EA symbol as your avatar, and pretty much call anyone who is against Origin or concerned about Origin or who says they won't buy any product that requires Origin a loser and a liar?

You're either the worst shill ever, or trolling for lolz.

I'd say the latter but, of course, that's just an assumption on my part.

And you are putting words in my mouth. I did not make any sort of comment or indirect statement to imply that anyone concerned about Origin's EULA is a loser or a liar. All I'm saying is that it's not as bad as you think it is.

I did not mean boycotting EA or Bioware precisely, I meant boycotting Origin and if EA insist on using it on every game that they publish be it from Bioware or someone else, then so be it. All those games will not appear on my desk. I dont want "Spyware" on my computer.

I just hope that Bioware says a loud NO to Origin and their opinion would have enough weight that EA seriously considers it. Its not their fault that EA is being a douche, again.

Steam - steamcommunity, friendslist, cloud storage, free steamworks for mod developer? A cheap plattform for indie developer.....

Origin - spyware and downloader for ea stuff. Done.

So like I said, Steam doesn't provide anything for the player (well, maybe some fluff, it seems, but nothing worth having).

Bioware isn't going to do anything, as EA owns them. And Steam, although more specific, does the same thing as well.

And what has EA done to be considered a douche, other than this?

No, it doesn't. Read the specific terms.

When I use Steam, I sometimes have to verify the integrity of my games. Steam scans my computer to verify this, though they are only scanning all files about the game I want verified. So yes, they do scan.

Quickly from top of my head, Spore DRM for example. There is more, but I say that EA's bad guy reputation amongst gamers has not come from nothing.

But thats the thing, it stays within Steam content. Steam application checking that everything in the game using steam is OK, or analyzing what Steam games you play so it can advertise better, whooppidoo. It still stays in Steam boundaries, rest of your HD is left alone.

*typo fix

Any setup that goes in after the initial install to "verify" your software is intrusive, excessive, and unnecessary.

It treats the customers as defacto pirates who must prove to the supplier that they are "legitimate".

It's rediculous.  It would be like having to prove that your car isn't stolen at random times each year.
