No, it doesn't. Read the specific terms.

When I use Steam, I sometimes have to verify the integrity of my games. Steam scans my computer to verify this, though they are only scanning all files about the game I want verified. So yes, they do scan.

Willfully missing the point. Look at the specifics of the contractual terms.

And you are just as entitled to your opinion as everyone else is. I'd hate to see this thread shut down over petty bickering.

Problems? This thread need to stay open. So they can see that we want an answer to the question?

@..Wolf, calm down. We need to keep this thread open.

I don't see a need to calm down, as I'm not aggressive or insulting anyone.

This only applies when Origin is online, myesh? Soo....just run your games offline. Install, run offline. Issue solved. Otherwise VOICE YOUR COMPLAINTS on their forums and not here. Now don't get touchy. Cuz I know that was one of those sentences. Just remember Spore. People got pissed off about issues with it's initial release. So they complained on the proper media outlets and Tadaa! It was kinda sorta fixed. >.> The forced evolution of your creature still blows. Still, if you have such and issue with the EULA complain to them where they will listen to you. Otherwise it's like kicking at a termite mound. Nothing is going to change. At all.

I emailed my desire to buy ME3, my concern about Origin, and my intent to not buy ME3 if it requires Origin, to every public contact email I could find at EA and Bioware.  I plan to write a physical letter this week if I can find time.

And what does Bioware have to do with this? Absolutely nothing.

Are you serious? BW is EA. You heard about it? Why the hell we have to explain you every single word? You are thinking sometimes? None of your comments are new, interesting or at least objective. If you have to say nothing earnest - go away. This is a serious discussion about BW users fears and not some playground for trolls.

@Killjoy Cutter
I don't know steam and I refused to buy Deus Ex because of it.
But even if Origin want to provide something I want to decide what and I want to decide: No, I don't want to see this advertisement. I simply want to buy this game to play this game. Period.

Yes, it is strange that nobody of the BW peoples comments on it. Maybe we need a poll?

actually No. Bioware is OWNED by EA. That is a difference. It is what could be called a subsidiary. EA being a parent company.  Origin goes through EA. not Bioware.  Please do consider certain facts or perhaps consider the EA forums themselves. That is where an answer is likely going to end up being to an EA issue. Bioware does not have control over or say in EA issues to my knowledge and so they have no place in commenting on this Issue.

Reptillius, earlier in the thread you said there was an opt-out option in the Origin settings to stop the scanning of you computer software and usage. Could you post a screenshot of it, and possible any text explaining what the opt-out covers?

I don't have the link to it anymore. I had to restart and clear some cache's...  I do believe there is a post either somewhere early in this thread that has it or maybe it was another one on an extremely simular topic that I'm getting mixed up with that linked straight to a thread in the EA forums themselves where an EA mod answered the question to it.

I will try to find the time between glancing at the bioware forums and my homebound duties to try and make a cursory search for it the link to the thread where they answered the question however.

" IF YOU INSTALL THE APPLICATION, THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THIS LICENSE ARE FULLY ACCEPTED BY YOU. If you do not agree to any portion of this License, do not install or use the Application. "

Of course, the "application" is required to play the game.

So "do not install" means you cannot play the game.

Nope, software applications, hardware and peripheral hardware installed on the computer which do not interact with EA software, or are not related in any way to EA applications, it is not limited to game data.

Pirating is bad.

Then perhaps they shouldn't give us reasons to pirate things.

There is no reason why EA needs to scan my computer, none at all.

You remember that terminus armor and gun that you got for pre ordering at gamestop.  Still waiting on that to be legally purchasable,  until that happens then pirating it is.

Stealing something ust because you don't like how they do things isn't a good argument. All it will do is possibly make developers stop making games for PC.

You realize you are also stealing from Bioware as well.

The afformentioned post in the EA forums themselves.  Be forwarned. many of the responses in it are the same angry responses and individual threats to the company as espoused in this thread and others but there are answers in it.

Except I paid for my copy of ME2.  The only thing that may or may not have aquired through questionable means would be in theory the terminus armor and gun  WHICH THEY AREN'T SELLING ME LEGALLY.

And developers will never stop making games for the PC for various reasons.

So I read this: Ray Muzyka is General Manager and Vice President at EA in addition to his General Manager/CEO role at BioWare. And now you want tell me that Bioware is not in the situation to say: "Look, EA, our fans don't want this. Can we please take it out for our games?" No, I don't believe this.
Oh, but maybe I should. You're right.
