@Killjoy Cutter...here is the Post Nathander made about his contact with EA support. Perhaps, like when dealing with the Government (in the U.S. at least) additional contacts may yield completely different answers.

I think it may be too far from ME3's Release Date to look at this with too much confidence, though...I doubt any final decision has been made given the minimal changes made to the EULA.

Nathander Von Eric wrote...

Well. I just called EA support again and
spoke to a man named Justin.

He told me that a retail bought hard copy of Mass Effect 3 would not require
Origin to be installed in order to play the game.

I asked him to confirm the answer and he said that Origin will “absolutely not
be required to play a hard copy of Mass Effect 3.”

Huzzah!

Let's just hope that Justin knows what he's talking about eh?  An official
confirmation from Bioware would be some nice icing on the cake too.

I just spent a few moments on the EA Forums looking over some of the latest posts and came accross this posted by a Forum member...this is a partial quote from a longer Post...

"After reading the changed EULA and privacy policy I am more comfortable on the matter though I am extremely angry at EA for lying to me about Battlefield 3 requiring Origin. Specifically I contacted their support staff and was told Origin would not be required at all to play Battlefield 3 then a month and a half later DICE announced that it would be. After contacting Origin support again to demand an explanation they said 'while we didn't lie to you, the game is not yet released and is subject to change.' "

If anyone wishes to read this person's entire Post it may be found here:

Yeah, well, the only constant in life is change.

The way people tear Bioware's posts apart word by word at times may be the very reason they haven't replied on this issue yet.

If they say it won't be required now and things change later and EA corp puts out the edict that the game -will- require it.......yeah. Major crap storm coming their way.

I think this kind of puts them and us fans in a no win situation as far as official information is concerned.

Then again that's whole a lot of assumption on my part. They may already know the answer and just don't want to cause an avalanche by replying on the forum.

Meh. Whole lot of guesswork with no hard data.

Why don't you just deal with it? EA needs to see results with BF3 - it's obvious as daylight. Nobody, I repeat, nobody from Bioware nor EA is certain for now, if ME3 will or will not require Origin. Hell, they aren't even sure this game won't be on Steam, not to mention any kind of mandatory 3rd party software.

That's why this thread was started to openly discuss what is a major issue to many. AKA: dealing with it. Or...do you mean STFU you whiners! ?? Since, you know, that's how you apparently deal with issues. Now while that may work fine for you, pushing things under the rug and just ignoring them, not everyone is satisfied with the passive tact.

Active, civil discussion is what gets problems solved. Deal with it.

This is a forum. People write posts and discuss things on forums. Since this is the Bioware Social Network there is always a good chance that the folks at Bioware will communicate with us here.

Why don't you deal with that?

To the rest of your post: You could be right. I don't know. You don't know either.

It's all a bunch of guesswork until we get the official word. That seems like pretty reasonable guesswork on your part but, it's still just a guess. See where I'm going with this?

Information to all of you.
Question to Chris and his answer:

Question: Will Origin be required to play ME3?
Answer: I have no information on this yet one way or the other. Sorry.

I guess they will give us some answer when they know.
Until then, all we can do is wait and hope.

Nathander von Eric, hope you agree with me when I say:
"I do believe Chris know more about this than Justin."

Requiring Origin to play the game = Beyond bad.

Requiring Origin to get DLC for the game = Annoying but not as bad (Was like that for ME2 right?)

Not unless that's a recent change... I've been downloading ME2's DLC from here as .exe files.

Come back when you get older. Your inability to tie a pc to anything but games and 'entertainement' is telling about your usage of the platform.

Some of us actually use it as a Personal Computer...

For the Fanboy troll that keeps insisting agreeing to the Origin TOS is optional:

Image IPB

The EA Download Manager update (now called Origin) being pushed to all older EADM applications asks only "Yes" and "Exit".

This update is absolutely mandatory by EA. There is no other option to cancel the update or to not accept the TOS. Clicking "Yes" installs Origin and hence you agree to all provisions in the TOS. Clicking "Exit" shuts down EADM.

This screen will then pop up whenever you run EADM subsequently. Any game you previously purchased through EADM and rightfully own will no longer be accessible until you install Origin and hence agree to the TOS. You can no longer download them to play these games anymore. So if these games are not already installed on your system the next time you run EADM, you will lose all access to them.

This is akin to holding people's property for ransom and is not something I would call voluntary or optional.

They are already seeing a backlash from these tactics and have since "updated" their Privacy Policy and added two opt-out options in the EA account profile webpages but there is still no opt-out option from within Origin itself in regards to the collection of data.

Wow.. Just wow...

I'm even getting wary of picking up older EA titles on sale now, if they are forcing this monster on users of older games in order to patch them up.

You have to use Cerberus Network to activate it, which requires a log in to your EA account (Or Origin one as they call it now)

Right?

Maybe I've been doing it wrong :?

Because if it's children pornography then I sure hope the data does get sold to the police
, since Google already does that (and fairly, I think google has far more information on every single person using the internet than Origin about me, or anyone else). You have a gmail - your information is filtered and possibly sold to third parties, you use google search? Same thing.

You have a facebook account? Installed Windows? Use WinRaR? Live in the United States and go to the dentist regularly? You are a citizen of any country at all? You work and pay taxes? Welcome to the big brother show.

I don't see anything wrong with surveying customers for data that might improve retail or possibly even development, and I don't see how they could use the system against me, maybee it's just that I'm that kind of person who don't feels like defending freedom for the sake of defending it. Nothing to hide.

You basically think "Oh if you don't want them knowing you must be downloading Child porn". What the hell? Is that what you think we use our computers for?

I myself have:

University studies/reports/assignments/correspondence that EA have no business knowing anything of.

Personal correspondence with friends and family that EA have no business knowing anything of.

Credit card information and transactions that EA have no business knowing anything of.

Hell quite frankly, they have no business knowing what types of computer games I play. What is on my PC is none of their business. Period.

Indeed, good comment.
Much of the same and source code, and that is absolutely none of EA's business.

You have to log into your account within the game to activate it, which isn't the same as having to Origin and let it run on your computer in order to install, play, and update the game.

Agreed. I hate their argument too "EA might not even sell the information on.."

Well, so what?

I don't want the man next door reading through personal conversations I have with my family, even if I know he wont give that information away to anyone; it's not for him to have in the first place, or anyone else.

Well said.

It's not about being afraid, or what someone does or does not have to hide.

It's that EA has no damn right, no need, and no reason, to even ask what else is on my computer, let alone to try to look, or to demand that they have access as a condition on buying their product.

Imagine a car maker demanding access to your garage at any time of day or night as a condition on buying a car that they made.   No one would accept that.

What's pointless is someone coming into a thread and telling people they're silly / stupid / pointless in discussing whatever the thread is about.

The point is to keep this thread open and active so they understand that this is something we don't like.
We can do with or without you, no problem.

@Someone mention a poll. Well tell your friend to give a agree or disagree opinion about this. Then can we keep this active.

I'd counter that you're offended by this very topic. You could just as easily self-moderate and stay away if it doesn't pertain to your interests.
