Will Origin be required to play ME3, now that Multiplayer has been confirmed?

is why i play on a 360 and not on a computer. With gaming companies going too far with how this Origin thing is now going, better to play on a gaming console where they can't get anything from your system.

from what I've read about the Origin EULA it does two things regarding information:

1) gathers non personal system information to send back to EA. this is stuff like proccessor speed and software (Drivers) versions amongst other things. this doesn't let them look through your porn folder.

2) gathers and sends non identifying personal info (which would be things like when they ask you what types of games you like and other prefferences) to related third parties (such as owned subsidiaries) to improve their marketing (which would include email but that you can opt out of in your account settings)

neither of these sends your social secuirty (if you are a USA resident) out for someone to steal your identity or something nefarious like that.

also Origin for ME3 will likely be used to do only a couple things and wont be required after that.

1) check the version of the game to see if its patched up to date. this would be done even if you pirate as a pirated copy will still contain this. (pirates just break a CD Key they can't change the source code).

2) check the DLC versions, does for DLC what 1) does for the game.

3) DL's and installs the DLC you've bought.

so if you know you are up to date on your stuff and you don't feel like playing online I highly doubt there's a problem with it (you could play offline in both DA and ME2)

I doubt you are not going to buy it.

Between Skyrim, Saints Row 3, Heroes VI and the rest of them I'm sure I'll manage. Besides, there are Origin free ways of acquiring the product. You'll see a lot of consumers turning to that thanks to EA's harebrained decisions.

If ME3 winds up having a Prothean squdmate there is a strong possibility I won't buy it. I have to draw the line somewhere.

While the EULA is cause for concern, I came across this post.

Opting out

But who knows what other things they'll do.

Just imagine the situation:

EA Corporate Boss: "How much copies of ME3 sold so far?"
Random Accountant: "About 1,3 million, sir."
EACB: "Ah, good, good... And how much have been activated?"
RA: "Five copies, sir."
EACB: "(Poker face)."

Will have a good laugh if that happens.

I somehow think you will buy ME3 regardless.

And are you speaking of pirating?

Agree.
I will NOT have people dictate installing programs on my system. Period.
I will DEFINETLY not install SPYWARE regardless of being official or not.

If this is true... I cancel my CE Pre-Order.
Incidentlaly... if thus applies to TOR... thats another Pre-Order to cancel and a complete boycott of any EA games that demand this feature.

Oh please you are still going to buy their games.

Watch me

Game requires me to give EA free reign to rake through my system and sell that information to third parties ?

Fortunatly I am not that weak or broken to accept invasions of privacy like this.

This is no different than allowing someone to rake through your house when you buy a DVD.
Hell no am I going to buy any products from a store that does that.

I don't think they would be all that concerned though; They've still got your money and that from the other 1,299,999 people. If one really want to make a statement, one has to make it with one's wallet.

It would be a different statement, one that says "Sure the game is great and worth my money. BUT I WILL NOT HAVE ORIGINS"

I have no doubt they'd be comfortable waiting that out.

I know you were addressing others when you
wrote this but I wanted to take the opportunity to chime in here.

If
installing Origin is a requirement to play any game I will not be
purchasing it.

I won't waste my time buying it and then messing about
with cracks or whatever and piracy is stealing and I'm no thief.

It's
not a boycott. It's me saying I refuse to support a company that would force me
to install something on my personal PC that could be hacked at a later time to
mine information. I couldn't care less about what type of security measures they
put in place.
Any Software can and will be hacked if someone has the will
and invests enough time and effort into it.

It would be an unfortunate
turn of events if I could no longer enjoy the great games that Bioware
creates.

But I will not buy a single game that forces me to install
Origins. I'll just play other games or spend more time with my better
half
....er..... playing golf instead.

I've heard people saying that all future EA games will require Origin. If true then I have a pre-order to cancel.

What's so bad about Origin?

Pay attention and read people's posts.  Godamn just jump in and DURP your way in.

And saying we're gonna buy it anyway is so stupid.  This origin thing is so wrong that I would not even miss ME3 if it means not having that on my comp.

Because all people are like lemmings, and it's imposisble to take a stance, right?

Your imagination needs work mate.

If there are people risking their lives over taking a stance, what makes you think the 'burden' of not experiencing certain games would be too great to not take a stance?

Especially considered how saturated the market for games is, and continues to be.

I intended to buy ME3 for PC through retailers (GAME shop), not the digital version.

But if I'm forced to install and use Origin to play I'll have to reconsider this.

I think that Bioware should tell us clearly:
¿Is Origin mandatory to play ME3? (In reail, digital or both if the answer is YES)?

Just a quick note: The service is called Origin, NOT Origins. It has nothing at all to do with DA:O, but a lot of people around here seem to be calling it Origins for some reason, which can get confusing, as some people call DA:O Origins as well.

@Fearnor_II: I doubt Bioware will announce Origin is compulsory for PC players until the last minute - it will minimise the number of cancelled pre-orders that way.

It is looking likely that even retail copies purchased in stores will do nothing but install the game, and still require Origin to play it.

I can understand the need to push your way onto the market through products like Steam, Origin, Ubisoft Online Must Check Every 3 Seconds....but seriously....I often wonder just how much more damaging to the PC games market and / or games market as a whole this course is.

The only thing I can do as a consumer are the two things that developers don't want me to do - buy the game used on console, or don't buy it at all.  I understand that this punishes developers, but I draw the line at being treated like a potential pirate instead of a consumer.  The DRM with Splinter Cell: Conviction and AC2 have made me take this stance with Ubisoft.  If Bioware will require Origin, I may need to go Ubisoft on them.  FYI, I know nothing about Steam, I don't use it, I have no idea why it's good or bad.  I haven't made the move to digital PC games yet, so I just don't want any third-party software required to be installed.

I have been wondering about the use of Origin for ME3, since the whole thing with Battelfield 3. As it is, if ME3 uses Origin in it's current form at launch for all copies, I will not buy the game. I am expecting they will need it unfortunately.

If it does not need it for some version or another, I will buy that, DRM-dependant.

I wouldn't be so sure about how this would minimize that effect, now that this is getting a lot of attention on gaming sites and will surely explode outwards from those venues.. The internet buzzing with this news is already causing a stir. Remember the apologies and backtracking Bioware/EA had to do when banning accounts here for forum violation that caused players to not be able to access their DLC, though they paid for it. That was swiftly remedied when that got out on the WWW en masse.

If they don't re-word the EULA and fix Origin accordingly, and this causes many to just avoid the PC versions of the games, it will certainly cause troubles for the execs at EA. Remember, EA makes more money on the PC versions because there's no licensing fees for having to make them for consoles, yet they sell for the same price now. Having said that, most of these games are going to sell exponentially more on consoles where this won't affect gamers. But BF3 is a PC developed game, so I don't know if EA wants to push what are potentially huge PC sales to falter.
