If I go to the Mass Effect on forums.ea.com they send me back to BW's forums site....

They closed the poll and all Origin related Topics except one outside the BF3 Forum.

That just verifies what we mean.

Just tried going back into ME2 on PS3... it's there too... You have to accept Origin in order to use the C-Net. Best part is...If you agree on PS3...you agree to give them access to all info and data on it and you PC, Mobile etc. If you have a account here and your typing in this forum...You're using origin! Great!!! I wasnt going to accept the new terms, but just being here typing about it means we must have accepted it or they changed us to one at some point. When you start giving video game companies more power than the government, you got to start wandering what are we doing with our lives?

Not strictly speaking,  the accounts were migrated without our permission,  that doesn't form a binding contract.

But can anyone confirm that a 360/PS3 game gives them access to the PC?  Because if it does,  I'll cancel my preorder in the morning.

I would not have thought so unless the wording says gives permission to scan all devices connected using the same IP (i.e if you had a 360/PS3 connected to a router and a PC also connected to the router) and i'd assume you'd need the origins client installed on a PC for it to do any scanning even if they had permission.

Don't spread FUD, it serves no one. We are not using the Origin application on the forums. The service is also called Origin which is just a name. Learn to differentiate before blowing a gasket.

I would rather give Chris and his workmate all the supprt they need to tell EA that their (we) customers don't like this.
I have cancelled the pre-order. And I'm done with EA.

That's the problem with the wording,  you authorize them to scan your hardware and applications,  by extension,  it could be interpreted that once you agree on one platform you authorize them to access any platform.  Given the 360 and PS3's ability to interface with a PC,  it's not hard to imagine a scenario where they cross the boundary between platforms.

Though I think you'd actually have to use virus code to do it,  which gets really ugly really fast.

why is this such a huge shock? other companies have been at it for a while now.

Not like this.

Other companies have tried it,  even when they had "Legitimate" reasons to monitor your hardware and applications,  such as Microsoft.  They ended up heavily fined for it.  EA doesn't have a legitimate reason,  they do not have any need to monitor applications outside of the ones they wrote.

Further,  we don't really know to what extent they're "Monitoring".  It could easily be doing keylogging,  to "Monitor" your use of the internet for "Research purposes".  How secure is EA?  Lulsec ripped into these forums easily.  Who's seeing that data?  What data is there?

No,  it's way beyond what's been attempted previously,  and with less of a reason.

Connected to the same IP? What kind of sick is this? If you're sitting behind a router on 5 PCs they want to connect to each of them? Yeah, this would fit the EULA :o(
What have the Console to do with PC at all?

So far no reaction from EA and BW at all. They simply ignore and sitting it out. In two weeks the topic is forgotten and EA can do whatever they want.

Actually I think the answer to that question is pretty easy: They want to sell as many copies as possible.

If part of the distribution puts a heavy limiter on that, they are well within rights to raise a concern. Just like they should be ecstatic if distribution caused extra copies to be sold (fat chance that one, though...  )

Well I just went back into ME2 like I stated and they wanted me to accept the new terms with the update or not use ME. I read thru ALL pages and it stated I had to accept in order to use EA servers/Cerberus etc and giving the "I accept" on ps3 to the use of EA software/Origin meant I accept giving them permission to rumage around on ALL Devices I own. Wether it's console, PC, software, anything attached to my pc, phone, etc. Though I dont think my phone counts since I dont use EA forums thru my phone, they might not go thru that, but...big confort right? The pages posted here arent the worst of the document. It's just a huge invasion of privacy I dont approve of. I have ME3 preordered, but Im concidering not getting it. That or NEVER turning on cerberus network, never having any of my gameplay stats get uploaded to Bioware etc. EA is putting me in a state of "I may not be able to finish ME...". Read the entire doc and not a snipit and you'll see how crazy EA is...

Thank God I'll be playing this on the 360.

For real. I wonder how close devs are to giving up on PC gaming.

Apparently Bioware isn't at all with The Old Republic coming out. :( What a waste. Could have been Kotor 3 or something.

Just keep waiting for an answer. If gamers all over staring to cancel their pre-order. It will need a respons from BW or EA.

OMFG!

Something tells me I'm safer not outlining exactly what it's doing.  Suffice it to say,  everyone *really* needs to read that EULA,  I don't think the Patriot Act is as invasive as this.

1. Of course they do. All developers want to sell their product.
2. Since EA is the head master in this companystructure; they do as their told.
3. EA's use of spyware, will send them all out of the game marked, just wait.

I'm inclined to agree with you.  The fines and class-actions* are going to be amazingly huge if this goes live.  I wouldn't be at all surprised if this starts heading into criminal charges territory.

*EA forgets many things with their contract.  They don't spell out clearly what they're doing,  in layman's terms,  and so it being binding is questionable just on that issue.  They're accessing things they have no need to access to provide their service.

But most importantly...

...EA's forgotten children.  Anyone under the age of 18 can buy this,  install it,  click through the EULA,  and it's not binding.  So when parents "Find" it,  and discover it's collecting data without authorization,  they can file class-action.  A minor isn't legally responsible for the contract,  parents aren't legally responsible for a contract that a minor was "Encouraged" to enter.

If Origin is required, well...I look forward to simply cracking it. And they can bite me if they don't like that, since I paid for the damned thing. Gotta love DRM, punishing your legit customers while being completely ignored by pirates.

What EA need to do is this:
They need to come with a public statement about their use of Origin in their games, and that Origin never will be required to play their games. If not, all gamers have lost their trust in them. And that will game over for EA.
