Today I received a mail from EA telling me that my EA account had been changed to Origin, one of the things the mail says I should know (as cool stuff or so tells):

Origin vive donde tú vives: En tu teléfono móvil, en el ordenador de sobremesa o en la web. Origin siempre está ahí.

Which translated to english means:

Origin lives where you live: In your mobile phone, in your desktop computer or in the web. Origin is always there

Frightening.

I personally have no qualms against EA - as publishers go they seem far more willing to support new IPs than other publishers are (Dead Space and Mirror's Edge for example), and they give developers time to make their sequels good (Battlefield, Mass Effect, the Command and Conquer games) rather than pushing them out as quickly as possible (they do tend to do that with their sport brands, but I don't imagine they really need that much development time).

Having said that, I am a tad concerend that they may make ME3 require Origin as doing so will provide another incentive for consumers to use Origin, but at the expense of players who want to play offline. I can see why they can do that with BF3 as everyone will be online to play that anyway, but I hope they don't do it with ME3 - I like being able to play offline now and again so I don't get bombarded by game invites.

I don't mind if it requires something like a one-time connection to activate the game - I think ME2 had that anyway - but if it requires an active connection the whole time I'll be a bit annoyed. My Xbox is online most of the time anyway, but if my internet fails - as it does more and more often now - I want to be able to play the game I've payed for.

Yeah, something like this: ... just watch you sleep for a bit

@Candidate 88766: You don't have to be online while you playing (like Ubisoft games), they only want to scan your complete data. Frightening enough I think.

I got the same message today, I guess we can say that gives the answer to this thread. Origin is here to stay.
And since I'm not going to bye any more games from EA or BW. I'm consider if I just should stop my account as well. In a week will I make my decision.

So, they just changed my account without my consent. What the heck.

Sorry, my keyboard is broken and I'm in the virtual one, so no interrogation symbols.

I got the mail too.

EA is now on my boycot list as far as new games are concerned. I'll still pick up some of the old ones I find on sales that doesn't require Origin, but new ones? Forget it.

Grats EA, you lost yet a customer.

There's a saying, you know.

Customer loyalty is hard to come by, easy to loose, and almost impossible to regain once lost.

What is Origin? It looks like I should not like it, but I'have no idea what it is.

Glad I play on the Xbox 360 and PS3.

I have no qualms with Origin accounts. I do, however, have qualms with the current Origin software client.

@WolfForce99: Just read through the thread and you'll find out. :P

If privacy is your major concern, Origin is the least of your concerns. Has anyone read the EULA for Windows 7? It makes Origin seem outright timid.

Nah, if anyone is really concerned about their privacy, have they read the Patriot Act?

Regardless, just because one (or two or three or more) organization/government does something wrong, doesn't mean you shouldn't still resist it at every turn you can.

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned here in this thread, but EA released a new EULA for Origin: eacom.s3.amazonaws.com/EULA_Origin_8.24.11.pdf

I was speaking solely on computer terms, but yeah we could really expand the scope of this argument. The distinction being that we don't have a choice but to accept the Patriot Act but you can choose to ignore EA and read a book instead (or one of a billion other things that don't require EULA's.) The moment I'm foced to install EA products on my computer (even if I don't want it) it will be pitchfork and torches time.

Agreed, though I had better be given a lot of forwarning, before purchasing and opening up the game, as to whether the Origin client is required or not.

Many of the arugments here are based on the older EULA from June. BTW, I sensed a bit of "snark" in that. Relax, it's just the interent. ;)

I agree as well. EA has to realize this could be a big PR nightmare. Look at the Spore debacle.

Maybe, but quite a few are aware of the changes which still doesn't make it sit well. There's no wording that restricts them to their applications alone. The broad stroke ambiguity persists even in that revision.

You'll be fine. My steam ME1 saves transfered to Origin's ME2 just fine.

Good.  I had enough trouble getting my Steam ME1 saves over to my Steam ME2!

Yeah, it was a really wonky way of doing it. I never understood why I couldn't just (in game) point to a save file. *shrugs* .

Yepp, well I'm done with all this..Both EA and BW can .."fill in the rest your self" you know the words..

Good luck to rest of you. Advice, don't use your time and energy on these companies, they're not worth your time.
