I love how they claim that they "wont have anything personally identifying you" but what people miss is that the only thing they are claiming with that is they wont be giving that personal info off to third party corporations for use. It says nothing about them not taking it in the first place. How wonderful.

I think people will have a better idea what to expect after Battlefield 3 comes out. I figure ME3 will follow that model.

There is nothing that should say that ME3 will be on steam or a multiplayer game.
I guess you will need to activate the game before use like for ME2, that will be all I guess.

I'm sorry, but I will mod/pirate a crack for my version of ME3 to protect my privacy. If I buy a product, I should be able to use it without having the company monitor my entire computer usage. At the very least, I should have the option to turn it off. First gamestop with Deus Ex, now EA with Origin...

Can we get some class-action lawsuits going here?

If enough people are dumb enough to blindly go along with these types of things then companies will continue to do them despite lawsuits.

There may be a way to stop "collecting information" using a Security Tool. I am currently looking for a possibility to do so.

We know that BF3 will require Origins. Had to install it when i got into the BF3 alpha, and it uses any EA account you have currently, like your BSN account.

I would bet that ME3 and most future EA games will require it too if its going to used like steam as a form of DRm and allow you to play game without the CD in the drive.

I don't have problem with that. They can see my PC specs and what am I playing. And why should I care about that? Seriously, do you thing that giant company like EA would have interest in stealing your private information and using it agains't you. This is just a stupid excuse for not buying the game. Instead of waiting for the great game, you are discussing things that don't really matter.

Invasion of privacy matters to a lot of people. If it was just a system check and 'is this game registered to this user' thing I'd have zero problems with it. But to have wording in the EULA that basically makes you waive your rights, which in some cases is illegal, now I have problems with it.

Thats why most people state to buy and crack it? it is not a excuse to not buy it, it is simply being against having your system scanned by some company

I dont mind like many having a drm, but not one that basically says "we want to see everything you do"

And if they wanna look at my pron i gladly tell them where to buy it themself....

From what rights will you waive? You just play your game and they just make statistics about which games are played the most and things like that. It won't hurt and if it wasn't in the EULA, you wouldn't even notice such thing.

I really really hope Origin is not required for standard ME3 which you can buy from store. Just look at Origins EULA. It is basically spyware and parasite program which shares all your hardware-program usage habbits and merrily sales your personal information to third parties!:

"2. Consent to Collection and Use of Data.

You agree that EA may collect, use, store and transmit technical and related information that identifies your computer (including the Internet Protocol Address), operating system, Application usage (including but not limited to successful installation and/or removal), software, software usage and peripheral hardware, that may be gathered periodically to facilitate the provision of software updates, dynamically served content, product support and other services to you, including online services. EA may also use this information combined with personal information for marketing purposes and to improve our products and services. We may also share that data with our third party service providers in a form that does not personally identify you. IF YOU DO NOT WANT EA TO COLLECT, USE, STORE, TRANSMIT OR DISPLAY THE DATA DESCRIBED IN THIS SECTION, PLEASE DO NOT INSTALL OR USE THE APPLICATION. This and all other data provided to EA and/or collected by EA in connection with your installation and use of this Application is collected, used, stored and transmitted in accordance with EA’s Privacy Policy located at EA Games - Electronic Arts. To the extent that anything in this section conflicts with the terms of EA’s Privacy Policy, the terms of the Privacy Policy shall control. "

more info on spyware Origin:

There are several states in the US with laws against spyware.

Perhaps a note sent to the computer crime divisions of the various state police and state AG's offices would be in order...

The eula does not say "we collect statistics about your game" it states "We allow ourself to do anything on your system how we want it and want to know whatever you do with it"

They even include being allowed to see DELETED software.....

Rights of privacy? You need to read it carefully to understand what they're saying you must do to play a game. It isn't just simple statistics. Also, if it wasn't in the EULA and they did the same things they would get sued out of existance.

I agree completely,  the DRM used on a game affects whether I am willing to purchase the product.  Just like storyline, graphics, etc.  and i do feel they should release this information before they go live, just like they show off the graphics, gameplay, storyline etc.  If you subscribe to magazines, like pc gamer, they usually include disclaimers if DRM is included with the product, perhaps they or other magazines will have specifics in a review on me3.

I only mention this because I think it is highly unlikely that any employee of ea/bioware will post in this thread with any kind of confirmation.

just my 2 cents!

You're missing part of the point...what if Anonymous decides to attack EA? Do you trust those losers with your info?

Do you need specific examples to understand how insidious this is? Here's one: bank statements. The wording allows them to look at everything. Your financial information is fair game. Another: email. Every piece of correspondence and contact info (if stored locally) is at their disposal.

Are these extreme examples? Yes. Will they use them? Unknown, but anyone that has two firing brain cells left in their noggin should know immediately that this kind of submission to play a game is WRONG.

You really think EA are going to steal money from your bank account or spent their time viewing personal stuff in which they don't have interest? Are you serious?

EA can't steal your money. If they do such a thing once, they ,,would get sued out of existance". And why should your really personal stuff interest them? The only meaningful post was about hacking EA. But I don't really believe in this.

Edit: I don't get the point. What else could EA do with this information?

Neither. I won't continue the argue about this. If you are really so paranoid, nobody can't help you. And I really don't give a **** will I need Origin or not.
