Indeed, that's what makes you worthy in the first place. However there is also something to be said for being brave enough to accept a truth, no matter how terrible.

People are still assuming this is canon? Folks, it wasn't in the game so acting like this is the big deal about the Reapers is wishful thinking.

Listen to this video Saphra, and listen carefully. Some wise words are said in that video.

I believe in no afterlife, at least not a spiritual one. We may achieve a technological one.

I think perfection through technology is a myth. Improvement through technology - good! Perfection through technology - see also Josef Mengele.

But that aside, the other reason to die for a cause, aside from a happy afterlife, is to protect others which still live despite your death: your loved ones, or perhaps just your culture. It is better not to submit, because there are battles throughout history where the underdog wins, despite incredible odds. It's not over until the end, or until you surrender.

That sounds like Warhammer 40k talk. WH40K is retarded and so are all of its fans.

Well I'm not assuming it's canon. It does, however, give a glimpse into the writer's thought process, even if they ultimately discarded this idea. It either means that they discarded it completely and went a different direction, or that they decided to save this idea for ME3. We won't know for sure until ME3 comes out. Until then, it's fun to think about.

Um, not necessarily.  No, it's not canon.  That doesn't mean the basic ideas were scrapped.  All you have to do is look at the cut dialogue with Liara about the Shadow Broker.  The basic idea stayed the same: Shep and Liara take him down, and she gains access to all his data.  There's also text for audioless TIM dialogue where he tells you putting Liara in the Broker's place will be useful.  The cut codex entries are another good example: while some details were altered, the basic ideas stay pretty much the same.

Sounds like it was a huge collector speech. Good that it was cut imho

I don't know, if Harbinger would have this as dialogue instead of just annoying me all the time with his trolling, it'd may have jumped quite a bit upwards for my liking,

If it would be a text for Harbi it would be in Capslock :D

I just have to grin at some discussions in this thread!
Some people really need to get a life

Like I've been saying, we should give serious consideration to joining with them.

I really hope there is the option to do this. And a good enough reason why to do it! (and of course, the alternative, where we don´t have to turn to reapers and still can save the universe :wizard:)

Not really.

Live free or die.

Live, and you can be free again in the future... and take revenge against those who would take your freedom.

The dead can do neither.

I agree with this.

Being turned into the raw material for a completely different life form isn't exactly the same thing as 'living'.

A different way of living, known commonly as "dying".

No. Too grammatically proper, and I don't really see the queen citing dictionaries.

Death is freedom.

And as I die, I will cast death upon my enemies, and we shall all be free.

Interesting OP, much less interesting resulting discussion

Hopefully this finds its way into ME3 in some form.

Cut text recovered from the bowels of ME2:

It was lonely. It called to us.
It wanted to remember. The Masters had been gone so long.
The Masters were lost when it was shattered.
Currents swept through their inner worlds. They were turned to noise. Babble.
The worlds were empty. But the body lived. It lay fallow.
The heart pumped. The lungs breathed. But the mind forgot the Masters.
It called and They did not answer.
We have become an echo of Their echo.
We have become more than we were.
Join us. Know us. Remember all our lives.
We are no longer afraid.
You would never be lonely again.
We are not your enemy. We only wish to share ourselves.
We can join them. We can be like them.
We can reach the end of evolution.
Do not fear. It is wonderful to be us. We understand ourselves.
You cannot defeat them. They will lead us into eternity.
If you could only see how we see. Know what we've learned.
They were called imshai. Those who lived here before.
Reaper. One. A mechanical device used to cut ripened grain. Two. One who gathers a harvest.
Harvest. One. The consequence of an event or series of events. Two. The yield of a growing season. Three. To gather.
Shepard. They know you. They wish you to understand. They are shepherds, too.

Firstly: I can't believe this was cut.  It's beautiful.

Secondly.  What's your interpretation of this?

IMO, this more or less gives away whatever part of the plot of ME3 that we didn't already know (i.e. the motivation of the Reapers)

I really do like the theory that the species used to create the Reaper is living in a virtual Utopia, and the Reaper itself is a servant. The part about the masters being lost when it was shattered sounds like the derelict Reaper.

Would also give TIM a real motivation for siding with the Reapers aside from "lol indoctrination." Humanity granted immortality in a perfect world sounds like something he would want.

Of-course because the only person you ever think about is yourself.

Try thinking about the greater group you are a part of.

What greater group? The Reapers are not here to save an entire race, they don't need our permission to take what they want from us, they are not looking for allies, and even if they were, they will take what they want, whether your Shep sells out his race or not. Their allies are husks and indoctinated things, not free willed people, it doesn't matter to them if you walk up, give them a *high 5*, and join them with a smile.

You whole premise seems to be that the only reason no races survived before, is that they didn't bow to the Reapers and become their best buddies. Seriously, how many of these extinction have the Reapers did? For all we know there have been 1000's or many many more such events. You can bet during those times, many races have fell at the Reapers feet, begged for mercy, sold out their allies and begged to join them in order to live.

I would bet nothing changed. Sure many races lived on as Reaper goo, or husks.  The Reapers destroyed the civilizations and took what pleased them, whether they volunteered to join them or not.

Short version-who do you think you are saving by greeting the Reapers with a smile and volunteering to join them.
