Still, where is the source that says there is a Chantry/Circle in Rivain?  Either from the game or a dev post.  I don't recall this ever being mentioned.

For the Chantry, from the codex on the Llomerryn Accords.
It's worth noting, however, that the Kingdom of Rivain immediately violated the treaty. Twice. Once, when the humans of northern Rivain—nearly all practitioners of the Qun and therefore by definition, "Qunari"—refused to leave their homes and go in exile to the islands. And again, when the Rivain Chantry and nationalist forces, unable to convert its people back to the worship of the Maker, tried a purge by the sword, slaughtering countless unarmed people and burying them in mass graves. It's a fortunate mystery that the leaders in Kont-aar did not alert their allies in the Northern Passage, or we'd still be fighting the giants now.

It does not say that the Chantry is still there though. It just says that the treaty was violated and the Chantry there at that time tried to stop it but failed. The codex entry for Rivian which is written in modren time does not mention that the Chantry has any power in Rivian.

This Codex entry mentions the Rivaini Chantry.

Anyway as far as the OP goes, most of the Andrastian nations aren't too bad places to live. Except for maybe the Anderfels because of the darkspawn and Antiva because of the assasins.

Orlais is pretty bad if you're a commoner.  The nobles there have absolute authority over the commoners.  Ferelden is a much kinder country to its commoners.

Nevarra might be decent too.  Truth is, there's very little information on it in the codex though.

So, there was a Chantry after that treaty was signed a few hundred years ago...is there still a Chantry?

If there is, does it have any influence or power?

There seems to be a contradiction in the codices. Genitivi said that most of Rivain is qunari, but now we learn they are apparently limited to one city. So, did the Qunari convert that many people after the treaty? Wouldn't that be a violation of the treaty?

Lack of info.

Curious. Nobody else wants to be a Dalish Keeper? I thought that's an awesome job. What did I miss?

I think no one's saying it because it's embarrasing.  But I guess most, if they have the gift of magic, have their eyes on Tevinter.  If one is a powerful mage and doesn't mind living by amoral or immoral ethics, Tevinter is the way to go.  No one wants to admit it, though

Well, I considered Tevinter. But being a Magister comes with too high a mortality rate. Too many Magisters kill each other. Even if you're all powerful, people can still murder you in your sleep (with a simple knife in Thedas, not in the Fade). It's the same as being a politician in ancient Rome. Very few of them die of natural causes.

I'd rather sleep soundly in a makeshift tent in a cold remote forest, than with my staff under my pillow in a palace made of marble in Minrathaus.

The Chantry has to be there is there is still a Riviani circle of magi, which there is.

Regardless, if you desire personal liberty, I would bet that Rivain is the best place to be.  It's the only multicultural nation in Thedas.

It would depend a great deal on who I am. If I'm a common, average Joe, probably Ferelden--no slavery and it seems like the common people are freer than they are in Orlais and better off than they are in Kirkwall. If I'm a mage, likely Rivain (not the Qunari-controlled part), I suppose, though we know very little about it. If I have money, I'd probably opt for Orlais or Nevarra. If I'm an elf, ick, Dalish? Even Par Vollen might be better for an elf.

The Circle of Rivain is in the capital, Dairsmuid. So there is probably a Chantry in the capital. Which means they might have *some* influence.

Par Vollen in the sense of a regular peasant.

As a noble: Nevarra.

Unless you're a mage, the Chantry is among the least of the things you should be worried about.

Tevinter openly trades slaves and practices blood magic.

Orlesian nobles can do anything they want to their commoners.

The Free Marches apparently has a high incidence of spiritual unpleasantness, especially Kirkwall.

Rivaini mages willingly become abominations.

Antiva, despite technically being a monarchy, is an oligarchy ruled by merchant princes.  Use of assassins against competition is considered normal.  It may not be a bad place to live, however, for a commoner.  Not enough information and I doubt the assassins worry about the goings on of commoners.  Antiva is also somewhat sexist against women, although not in a cruel way.

Par Vollen is run by the Qunari.  Nuff said.

Orzammar is a classic oligarchy that oppresses its lowest classes.

For me it's going to be Nevarra or Ferelden.  Ferelden isn't too bad as long as you don't ****** off a nobleman somewhere.  Nevarra....well, they hunt dragons.  How cool is that?

They truly have some influence. With their supporters and Andrastatian's fanatics they massacred people who followed the Qun.

Rivain is divided, and certainly not united. There are those who believe the Qun, the Andrastians and those who follow the pagan rites with the auspucices.

Antiva is full of assassins.

And Antivans.

But seriously, I love Orlais. Stylish, extravagant exterior masking abundant cutthroatery. My kind of place. :-)

Nevarra *hunted* dragons. They don't seemingly do it anymore, as I would assume most sovereign nations do not want a foreign nation roaming about their lands, no matter the intentions.

Orzammar. I am Xanthos Aeducan, the greatest king of all Orzammar! I shall lead them to a golden age of prosperity and change the foundation of Orzammar's society!

Also, Dwarves are my favorite race. And you get to fight Darkspawn.

We don't have a great deal of information on exactly how Rivain functions. If I had to guess, I'd say some of the population is Andrastian, but it's not the same as in the nations where the Chantry is the dominant religion so their influence is limited to their own population or territory.

From what I gather from reading devs speak on the subject, the Rivaini have their own version of the Qun that doesn't quite measure up to the Qun practiced in Par Vollen. Brother Genetivi mentions he escaped from some tal'vashoth and was rescued by some human followers of the Qun but with a "Seer."

I'm not sure if Kont-Aar is supposed to be part of the Qunari Territory or part of the Kingdom of Rivain, but the Codex entry on the Llomyrren Accords implies most of it's population is human.

If I were a mage, Ferelden. If not, then Par Vollen, simply because everywhere else is going to suffer horribly, whereas PV might not, partly since the writers seem to have a soft spot for the Qunari.

I'd imagine Rivain will be one of the first places the Qunari will violently subjugate.

Really wish Bioware showed us more of the world before setting up this nonsensical war between mages and templars.

All of my Wardens and Hawkes got to an eluvian mirror changed their looks and made a beeline to Rivain. The only truly free spot in Thedas. Where I'm free of all the bloody messes in Ferelden and Kirkwall.

Ferelden, the birthplace of Andraste, where ALL the holiest of holy sites are located... the Emerald Lake.... Denerim.... Andraste.... etc.
Plus the people are really nice..... unless you're a mage.... oh well.... the Ferelden circle tower is the nicest one... with barely any blood mages too!

And if you're really bold you can ride on the back of a gorilla while drinking ale and fighting Darkspawn. And you're naked.

That's how Oghren fights Darkspawn.
