Looking to Merrill for wisdom is like eating toothpaste for vitamin C.

The Chantry isn't exactly known for promoting freedom in general. And see my previous posts with respect to hedge witches and abominations.

The Circle of Rivain is in the capital, Dairsmuid. So there is probably a Chantry in the capital. Which means they might have *some* influence.
I see this listed here in the Wiki but I don't see an original source for that info.

All this talk of Rivaini mages "willingly becoming abominations" make it sound like they idiotically allow demons of rage, sloth, desire and pride to possess them instead the non-demonic / benign type. I don't think they do that. I have to wonder exactly how much of the Qun Rivain follows if it respects and tolerates its mages enough to allow that, without the direct rule of the kossith. Since Rivain is now said to overwhelmingly follow the Qun, I don't think there is even much of a Rivain Chantry there to matter anymore, if it still exists. If there is a Circle, I would think it is distinctly differently from ones ruled by the Chantry. Rivain needs more and more details. I really want to check out Rivain.
Anders became an abomination with a "nice" spirit too, and we see how that turned out.
Abomination = bad. That's one thing the Chantry has right. Abominations formed by demons are obviously worse, especially at first, but abominations formed from "nice" spirits are quite destructive as well.

First, this is a real abomination: dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Abomination
Anders is far from that. And second, that spirit was twisted and warped by Anders' internal uncontrolled anger, so its mostly Anders' fault. If Rivaini mages were regularly becoming the sort of "abominations" that kill people and destroy stuff, than why hasn't Rivain been destroyed and overrun by demons and abominations yet? Since Rivain is still around and relatively thriving, I would have to conclude that these Rivaini mages know what they're doing when it come to spirit possession.

Merrill is indeed wise Rifneno. Wiser than most mages, and most people in general. Her time in Kirkwall actually makes her more savvy to living among other people. She's not used to being in a city, but her time there makes her grow up.
Also, the actual quote she says is this:
All spirits are dangerous. I understood that. I'm sorry that you didn't.
They may not be dangerous in the same ways, but they are still dangerous.

One would think with Isabela's knowledge of Rivaini culture and her past with a mother who pretended to be a seer, she might know a thing or two about willingly allowing a spirit into the body.
No doubt she spent time with other Rivaini people and seers, and that's what allowed her to call her mother out on being a fraud.

I'm trying to think of what Empress Celene might (and should) look like.

And I remember David Gaider saying that he wants to take this pic and tell the Art team that this is how Celene should look like, about more than a year ago.
