Look, I'm tired of all the incesant whining and crying about EA and their new thing, Origin.

I use origin, and it's not that bad. So what's the deal?

because of one thing in the ToS:

"2. Consent to Collection and Use of Data.

You agree that EA may collect, use, store and transmit technical and related information that identifies your computer (including the Internet Protocol Address), operating system, Application usage (including but not limited to successful installation and/or removal), software, software usage and peripheral hardware, that may be gathered periodically to facilitate the provision of software updates, dynamically served content, product support and other services to you, including online services. EA may also use this information combined with personal information for marketing purposes and to improve our products and services. We may also share that data with our third party service providers in a form that does not personally identify you. IF YOU DO NOT WANT EA TO COLLECT, USE, STORE, TRANSMIT OR DISPLAY THE DATA DESCRIBED IN THIS SECTION, PLEASE DO NOT INSTALL OR USE THE APPLICATION. This and all other data provided to EA and/or collected by EA in connection with your installation and use of this Application is collected, used, stored and transmitted in accordance with EA's Privacy Policy located at www.ea.com. To the extent that anything in this section conflicts with the terms of EA's Privacy Policy, the terms of the Privacy Policy shall control."

This is seriously the end of my relationship with any EA games, even Bioware's if this is not reconsidered. As much as I enjoy Bioware's games and want to see how the Mass Effect series concludes, I will not submit myself to such obvious Data Mining.

This very issue is why I haven't been and never will be a Facebook user.

I truely believe that this is something that EA needs to reconsider if they wish to remain a viable Company. There are way too many savy people on the Bioware Social Network to allow this to go unnoticed. I will be sending a letter to EA to tell them my thoughts on this matter, I encourage others to do the same.

I'm sure there will be a ton of posts about how this is "no big deal" or that I'm paranoid but those who are about to make those Posts need to ask themselves the following question: Would you allow the Government to do this to you with your consent? I would hope that the answer would be "No" so I see no reason to allow a Corporation to do it to us.

With that EA logo as your avi and this blind devotion to anything EA shoves down your throat. I begin to wonder if would still make this thread if Origin made you pay a subscription just to have it on your computer.

If it was illegal, EA would be in trouble already.

People just like to find any excuse to paint EA as some big, monolithic evil empire so they can justify pirating their games as actually fighting some sort of digital civil rights movement.

So what you're saying is this ToS encourages pirating.

No, they'll pirate regardless.  This however gives them a convenient smokescreen.  So now they can pretend to be digital freedom fighters and Robin Hoods so they can stick it to the man!

It's not about getting free crap, no not at all.

I still dont like them giving stuff about me away to people i dont even know. The possiblity of EA through Origins knowing what they keep for themselves about me is already pushing it. Im not using Origin.

You do know, every last post, email, tweet, hell any bit of electronic information you've used is already in someone elses hands dont you? The NSA in the case of my fellow Americans, MI-5 in case of the Brits, and so and so on has been doing this for years. At least EA bothers telling you.

Your right so completely right in fact that people who don't even condone pirating are cancelling pre-orders.  They were looking for an excuse to break their own rules

Oh I love this everything a game company does is compeletly in their rights because their innocent and we're the evil pirates who must be killed.
Oh how I wish I could see the world in such childish black and white.

That might be so, but I don't think that really justifies EA or any other corporation doing the same thing.

Origin is the sole reason I won't be getting battlefield 3 anytime soon.

It makes me very sad.

Your original statement was that you didn't like Origin because they shared personal info.
That was refuted.
You then said it was illegal for them to share any kind of info with third-parties.
That was refuted.
Then you move on to "well, nobody should do it, so there".

How far do you wish to move that goalpost?

You should probably stop using the bank, too.
