I dont know if the head vfx can be made into something like a crow sitting on a pcs shoulder.Or another firmillar that is small sitting on the pcs shoulder.Now this would need to be taken away when a pc summons his firmillar.I think it could be erased by altering that script to erase the vfx.But imp mini beholsers ravens i think those would be cool to sit on a pcs shoulder that way other players couldnt pk them and save alot of drama.

Should be possible. Just a matter of placing the VFX, that is all.

Not sure how one is going to tie it in with a real familar, though.

If you check the (I think) September CCC entry, you can take one of my parrots and use those visual effects models for positioning. It's tied to the impact node (rather than the head node), so the bird won't move all over the place as your character's head turns. Also, it's just on the right shoulder, but that should be easy enough to change to the other shoulder.

Ya i know about the parrot but i think it be cool to have the firmillars up there and just destroy the vfx when someone summons.Just recaping the idea.

Indeed, a very interesting idea. Of course, I think it would be VERY awkward to have my Dire Wolf or Hellhound squatting on my shoulder...

Could do it differently with things like Hellhounds. Perhaps a small statuette hanging off of the belt, shaped like a Hellhound - making it seem like it was summoned from there?

imps on the shoulder would be a cool VFX too

I wonder, think it'd be possible to create a minor looping animation for the VFX too? Like an imp picking its nose, a raven ruffling its feathers or pecking under its wings.

<yawns...>

It'd be nice to link it to the associate's "pause" animation...
When assoc pauses, appears on shoulder. When active, disappears from shoulder.

'Course, I'm just saying that 'cuz I love ravens and I'm unhappy that birds (other than seagulls?!) don't have a pause anim :-P (Edit: don't have a *decent* pause anim :-)

I don't know about VFX anims, but the anims on the model can be different lengths, as long as the data gets compiled with the geometry... Just had an eye-opener looking at all the pause anims on the a_ba model... pause (bored), pause (tired), pause (sick)... cool! And walks...injured walk? Dead walk? sweet. Too bad they're the same :-/

I like the idea about a chain with a little statue for like a hellhound or dire wolf its a good solution to having at least something for them.

Or, you could ride your animal when it is not small enough to squat over your shoulder. Let the bastards be useful for once!

I guess it could work with halflings and like big wolfs.

Yeah, I totally support your idea of riding a halfling! Imagine your PC on the shoulders of the little freak, saying something like: -Now, take me to the latrine, but make a stop at the market first; gonna need some scrolls.-

Hmmm...one could make a brownie Familar, and use the brownie model, right?

Then one could outfit it...and play it by possession! Coolness!

<dragging himself...>

Ok, begun work on right & left shoulder animated ravens.

Will then do (in the order of interest) the standard small animal familiars:
  • Mouse
  • Toad
  • Bat
  • Cat
  • Snake
  • Owl

@ Six: you ever do anything with that fetish?

Umm... I think I'll be reskinning the bird for all of the crow (talking bird) variants I allow Mages in Arnheim (bluejay, magpie etc...)

<does *not*...>

Unless you find better textures (I assume you are talking changing the texture and not converting the birds to use skin/bones) you're in for a hard row to hoe. The raven texture is a little 128x128 texture based on the raptor. And it's a completely different layout to the seagull/parrot/etc.

This is where Jenna or other really good photographers might jump in and give us a good 256x256 or larger texture for familiars.

It's one thing for a small animal that scurries by in the night and quite another to be staring at the blasted thing the rest of your (very long) life :-P <you ain't exactly beautiful your own self, wizard>
Nor ever will be.
But you will, Dearheart. Promise. <sometimes, boss... i don't mind you so much ;->

Interesting trivial, Birds of Paradise are in the crow family :-)

Edit: Just found Roadwyrm's seagull->crow texture. Cool. That'll help a lot.
