Sometimes the best methods are those tried and true.
Other times they just seem worn out.

Nevertheless DAO will have some "videogaming staple conventions ™" in it.

Which ones do you think?

My Vote: You get captured and all your items are removed and stored close by [As seen in Fallout 3, Baldur's Gate 2, etc.]

Sagely elderly character that knows all about the problem and how to solve it, but absolutely refuses to do it himself, instead directing the PC to do it.

I reckon Morrigan acts tough, but inside she is all soft and creamy. Mmm I am going to lick that up. *NB That was a sexual innuendo*

How about: You ****** a bunch of people off and they banish you from their town, but then bad guys attack it / take control of it and you have to return to save everyone.

A town is close to hysteria due to a local spirit/monster. Said monster attacks every night, killing/capturing 1 or 2 people per incident. You must investigate and stop these disturbances.

You find yourself living in times of trouble when the land is threatened by a terrible and ancient enemy.... oh wait.

Another one might be.... following their own agenda, one of your companions uses you for their own gain and then turns on you.

Oh... that's a good one.

You'll be betrayed. By everyone. The only thing that will be honest with you is the archdemon trapped at the bottom of the dungeon.

Melissan / Kreia type elder sage, who you know is going to betray you just about first time you met 'em, but can't do nothing but be puppet for 'em. If that happens I'm going to throw my monitor outta window.

OH OH I know.

At some point you must search out a weapon of great power. That once belonged to a great villion/hero.

(Maybe they will call it the master sword.)

After having sex with Morrigan, it turns out she is actually your sister and is now pregnant with your child. This child is later posessed by a demon while still in the womb. When the chld is born Morrigan dies. The young boy doesn't have any friends and doesn't socialize with other humans at all. After a while strange accidents start to happen to the people around him...

Low life bandits think you are a **** and try to rob you, only to discover that you are infact the Chosen One who wields the power of the elements and can vaporize them just by waving your arms around a bit.

I must have a masochistic streak, because I like these quests.
Maybe it's because I've played so many of them that I'm used to being captured by now, or maybe it's because I usually play a magic user so unless I need my weapon to cast magic I can still wipe the floor with my captors.

There will be a female spellcaster with dark intentions that looks like a **** that has dragged herself out of an alley. She will have a rival, a cute female spellcaster with healing abilities and be of a good alignment. They will have designs on the PC, sexual or otherwise. You will be forced to endure their conflict.

You are waylaid by brigands too stupid to realize that people in glowing armor with sentient weapons are best left alone.

At some point during the game an NPC will refer to the player and his group as "very strange companions".

Yes, you are really the Archdemon who was captured by the Grey Wardens and used to discover the true source of their power.Image IPB

Every Lowly bandit/peon/rat/rabid dog that simply must attack you, knowing full well that you or your party will kill them and giggle. I mean really...what idiot in a cotton shirt with a stick runs toward a guy in plate mail....or in fallout what kind of bandit attacks the guy in power armor who is carrying a mini nuke.
