The wise, good old man that sends you on the quest, turns out to be the villain.

Someone who seems to be a villain is actually an ally.

Your memory was wiped.

Yes, you are really the Archdemon who was captured by the Grey Wardens and used to discover the true source of their power.Image IPB

I can see this happening in DA:O.

Every rumour is true, so is every old legend or insane theory, for a hundred years people will have talked about the tomb of infinitesimal survivability and its incredible treasures, yet nobody will ever have bothered to go there and get them.

The concept of travel is completely alien to anyone outside your party, even if there is a village drowning in Darkspawn goo, nobody will just leave.

Yes, there will be a village drowning in Darkspawn goo, exactly one in fact.

Zevran and Oghren will start out as rivals, but by the end of the game they'll be practically married.

Every romancable character has a dark and mysterious past.

"Sure you saved my town from the hordes of evil, that doesn't mean you get free stuff from my shop, but by any means, have 4 minor health poultices and 20 silver!"

On the same subject, shopkeepers are immortal.

You can slaughter an entire city or two and still be treated like an insignificant piece of crap whose wishes are meaningless and not even worth reporting to the supervisor when you arrive, despite the details of your evil exploits playing in the background.

Your party is separated into two groups during/after a major battle. Both groups explore different areas of the same place until they ultimately converge in time to face the next major boss battle or flee a collapsing ruin/dungeon/castle.

One of your party members will become an enemy.

There will be an ancient device that has been forgotten by all, and only the PC is able to communicate with it.

The leaders of a great city will ignore your warnings until it is too late and you'll have to save them.

You must investigate a mysterious death to prove a friend innocent.

You kill the Archdemon Dragon. Yet it turns out that that wasn't the arch demon. YOU ARE.

You will be told that a Darkspawn attack on a village is imminent, but no matter how long you wait (including going and doing other quest lines) the attack won't come until you talk to the mayor/village elder about it.

The Arch Vilian is in your presence, defenseless, giving a speech, or in the next room, but despite divine prowess granted by cheats and forsight, you can't just kill him and end the whole game and get your 1,000,000,000 XP when, if someone who could see the future / know the futue like you do after your 30th playthrough simpyl would.

You meet the Evil Mastermind early on but you are left alone, later you defeat him only to have him exit stage left saying how he has other things to deal with before your demise.

Oh and your upbringing is always important...always.

The Maker is actually evil and the Darkspawn are just trying to save the world from him. Edit: They viewing humanity as his disciples and must be purged.

Or, perhaps it all exists in the imagination of one autistic child, which is revealed in the last scene?

Hmmm... this sounds familiar....

Making your way to the small town in the middle of nowhere, you are given a series of quests which, when considered as a whole, amount to "please kill everything within a 30 mile radius of this town".

More to the point, the attack will not occur until you tell the leader that you're ready.

NPC's will wander around the village with various punctuation marks hovering over their heads.

The bad guys will all be really ugly. Except for one. He's the ring leader. But he'll turn into a big ugly when you hit him hard enough with your sword. And he'll usually yell "Enough!" when he turns ugly.

You'll be able to run, swim, climb, laugh, cry, eat, jump, poop, sleep, catch footballs, and sprint a marathon......while wearing full plate armor.

A bra will confer +20,000 armor value.......but only if the character is a DD. With a 2 inch waist.

Mysterious people always have maps. Local villagers always need help wiping out various species of organisms that actually contribute to a stable ecosystem.

Be careful of the one npc whose skills are absolutely vital to the party, such as the only thief npc in the game or only healer npc. They will always betray you.
