 I found this on another forum. I've tested it and it works:

If you want to skip the super-delay of waiting for the authorization server to tell you it's down, there's an easy fix for that.

Open up C:\\Windows\\system32\\drivers\\etc

Open up "hosts" (not "hosts.msn" or anything else) in Notepad

Add the following lines to the bottom of the page:

0.0.0.0 nw2master.bioware.com

0.0.0.0 nwn2.master.gamespy.com

The box will still show up for authorization, but it will immediately mark the connection as a failure, allowing you to continue; authorization is NOT required to play online, so this does not hamper anything. It may be a good idea to back up your "hosts" file with a copy for when the authorization servers DO come back online, if ever.

The above can also be accomplished by opening a command prompt with administrator privileges and simply typing:

echo 0.0.0.0 nw2master.bioware.com >> %SystemRoot%\\system32\\drivers\\etc\\hosts

The second line is unnecessary.

I can confirm that changing the hosts file only needs the first line.

I should add the following points for those of a less technical bent (this is for Windows 7, but IIRC similar issues affect earlier versions of Windows):

1. hosts may be read only; if so turn this off (as administrator) before edit, and then back on again afterwards

2. If editing in Notepad in Win 7 (and Vista IIRC) you will need to run it as administrator

3. Be careful to save it as a general file type *.* and not a text file

Um... no one needs to change the hosts file at all. Just change pregameguix2.ini (if you have SoZ, or pregameguix1.ini if you don't but have HotU, and pregamegui.ini if you have neither)

Copy this file into your ...\\documents\\Neverwinter Nights 2\\override\\ui\\default folder and change the following line:

SCREEN_PLAYERLOGIN=playerloginx2.xml
to
SCREEN_PLAYERLOGIN=multiplayermenux2.xml

(change or remove the x2 to x1 etc based on what expansions you have installed)

Hi Edward,

The folder you need to drop this altered file into is:

"C:\\Users\\YourUserName\\Documents\\Neverwinter Nights 2\\ui\\default"

Where YourUserName is whatever user name your computer uses. i.e. It does not go into your override folder as you currently list it.

Cheers!

Lance.

Actually it's just another method for dealing with this.

Hosts editing sabotages it. ( as described here )

UI changes can bypass it, should be a vault project though for those who are not programmers even though it's pretty simple.

And skywings client extension makes it only delay a single second, so if they ever do fix it, it would just start working again. With all the other fixes he includes i would suggest this method as your first recourse, and only try the UI change method if you really don't like using the client extension for some reason.
