JRPGs, lol!  Wild Arms 1 and 2 were cool though.  So was Suikoden II.

Are you serious? Jrpgs can be good and bad just like any other game.

Dragon Quest 8
Demon's Soul
Valkyria Chronicles
Final Fantasy 12...yes I really liked it

and I can keep going.

As for my favorites hmm

really not sure since its series.

1. Witcher
2. Dragon Quest
3. Fallout 1 and 2 ONLY. I hate FO3 so much and haven't played New Vegas.
4. Deus Ex
5. Baldur's Gate. Bioware will never make another rpg as good as this.

Gothic (1+2 only)
Ultima

IMHO No other RPGs have a playable second part.

Well, Gothic part 3 is also playable.. well sort of. It's an open sandbox, very different from it's predecessors. Still, I consider it vastly superior to the famous Oblivion sandbox.

I only wish that someone would sort the weapon range issues (particularly with 2H swords and axes). It seems like the 2H weapons have worse reach than 1h and this makes no sense. Well, most 2H weapons except polearms, which are superb - due to the reach playing such a major role in this game (simple farmer's scythe from the first village rocks! ...well, perhaps it's too good).

Gothic 3 is far away from playable, even with a 1,1 GB Community-Patch and a 900MB Quest-Package. There a so many bugs left. It is an very nice grafic-demo. Do you know that there is a 2,8% chance to get 2 Katana in one playthrough? That there is a 66% chance that you don't see 1 of the 3 ends without using marvin(cheat)-mode?

In Gothic 1 the range of 2hand was MUCH longer than 1hand.
And never forget the IN EXTREMO-concert in the 2nd chapter ;)

Well, this sounds like a bit much. I know I have played with the Community Patch and faced no game-breaking bugs. Worked really well.. except for the weird weapon reaches and the extreme difficulty of group fights... on normal. Though the latter is perhaps for the better.

1. Pools (Radiance thru Darkness)
2. Freedom Force
3. Icewind Dale
4. Fallout
5. Bard's Tale

Champions of Krynn wanted in, but I thought it unfair to include it as the Gold Box games already had their best series in the list.

I would rate AC as an RPG also as I do Way of the Samurai 3. AC is more a role playing game than most (J)RPGs

The games you mention are no series though (except Baldur's Gate).

1. Mass Effect
2. Gothic (esp. 1&2, didn't play 4)
3. Deus Ex
4. The Witcher
5. TES (never played Arena and only shortly played Daggerfall though)

Especially the first 4 are really hard to place in any order since all are masterpieces in their own right.
Unfortunately it doesn't look like Alpha Protocol will become a series, otherwise it would be in a tie with the Witcher, I guess.

I could never understand the hype on Witcher either. That game was pure dog poop. Five minutes of that and I was asleep. You can probably count the number of RPG's put out in the last decade on one hand. Mass Effect is not an RPG either. The first ME was a pseudo RPG and the 2nd was not even close.

Some of the stuff I liked was...Dragon Warrior series, Wizardry series, Phantasy Star series, early FF games, Earthbound, Shining Force, Ultima, Persona, Fallout. Loads more but can't recall from memory.
