If you want to skip the super-delay of waiting for the authorization server to tell you it's down, there's an easy fix for that.
Open up C:\\Windows\\system32\\drivers\\etc
Open up "hosts" (not "hosts.msn" or anything else) in Notepad
Add the following lines to the bottom of the page:
0.0.0.0 nw2master.bioware.com
0.0.0.0 nwn2.master.gamespy.com
The box will still show up for authorization, but it will immediately mark the connection as a failure, allowing you to continue; authorization is NOT required to play online, so this does not hamper anything. It may be a good idea to back up your "hosts" file with a copy for when the authorization servers DO come back online, if ever.

The bug you're thinking of is solved with a script on client entering for any server worth it's salt.Ed Lolington wrote...
This option works for me but there's a very scary bug present if the auth server is permanently down; which looks like the case.

This assumes you have nwnx include files which I didn't include with the package but if anyone needs them you can get them from:
http://www.nwnx.org/...downloaddata=13
The system works very simply, all players logging in without a pw-specific password will set one. That password will be tied to their public cd-key and log-in name. Anytime they reconnect with the same log-in name and public cd-key they DO NOT have to re-enter the password. On the other hand they do need to specify it. If after 5 attempts they get it wrong the player gets booted. It is rather simple to implement as well and is gui based, hope it helps some of you.

This hasn't worked for me. I just get the "Error: Your CD Key is unregistered, please go to..." message.
I want to play online!

The error you are having seems like a different issue, perhaps you are a steam user and never entered in your actual CDKeys ( the steam version does not include these, you can get them from steam )

Skywing has recreated the game browsing system though, and has all the PW's listed via an open Web Services API, and his NWN2 Client Extension patches the game so it works like it did before, and stops authentication. There are also multiple methods to browse that list ( ie http://www.nwnlist.com uses his data, and there are apps on the vault that list it as well, and virusman is developing a similar game patch that allows NWN1 to use it as well. ).
PWs are implementing their own authentication schemes - the old system was full of holes anyway, the systems added actually match things I've always had in place to block exploiters.
( that is just one more reason to use the NWN2 client extension, it fixes so many problems its ridiculous and does not touch any game files to patch the game. Some areas that used to take a minute to load, take seconds with his extension, and there are a LOT less game crashes. )
