Something about specific icons causes a toolset crash

It's the strangest thing, but certain icon TGA files I've created cause the toolset to crash. I'm polishing up a large set of custom icons and most of them work just fine. A few of them, however, caused the icon menu (in the item blueprints) to become corrupted and stop displaying further icons. I.e. the icons in the list basically go blank following the "bad" icon. When I tried to exit the toolset following a view of one of these "bad" icons, it crashes. Fortunately, in all cases I've been able to resolve this problem by copying the icon over a replica of an existing item icon (copied from the UI sub-directory). These icons now work just fine when I use them in the game engine.

However, I've run into a problem where the icons would display just fine in the item blueprint menu, but the toolset still crashes on exit. I was able to narrow the list down to a few suspect icons by a brute force binary search (removing half the icons; reloading the toolset; checking the icon menu; exit). I have been able to fix many of these problematic icons by the simple expedient of a slight tweak of the image brightness and constrast. However, a few of them absolutely refuse to let me resolve this issue. It's confounding, and it's left me wondering if there is something about the specific pixel codes in the icons that is causing the problem? Green or blue-green icons in particular seem to have the most issues. I think my next experiment will be to modify the icons' hues slightly to see if that resolves the issue.

Strange, huh? Guess I just needed to vent a little.

Tried a full export, then an import into a new file, but I'm still having the same issue. Sigh.

I've been somewhat successful in modifying the icons so they won't cause a crash, although it's a painfully slow process. In one experiment, I was able to narrow down a cause to a row of just nine consecutive pixels (with the remainder of the icon set to white). The crash seems to be the result of certain combinations of very dark (but not black) pixels, rather than a particular color as I first thought. But the problem varies with each of the handful (~1%) of icons where I had an issue.
