I ahve been playing DA2 for a couple weeks straight without too many major issues. Today I tried to load it after clicking to move onto the main menu, it starts to load it and connect to EA, then no matter what , even in windowed mode, it crashes my video card, every time. I tried restarting, same issue, I just tried upgrading to the latest driver (280.26), is still giving me the same issues. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

CPU: Core i7-2600K 3.4GHZ
RAM: 8GB
Video Card: Palit Geforce GTX 570 4GB

Is your videocard overheating? Is there dust in the computer? (fust can be a real problem here...)
Do you think you have fawlty (bad) RAM? or maybe the videocard is broken? Have your overclocked your computer's processor?

Don't think so, friend told me about a monitor for the video card, I was watching while running games last night and never saw it go over 70C, it's idle temp seems to be 50C. dust in the computer? nothing serious. Pretty sure the ram isn't faulty, I had faulty ram before and I couldn't even boot windows when that happened. Never OC'd the processor, it's been 3.4GHZ factory default since I bought it.

If this is win7, click the start button, and type reliability into the search. This should bring up a list, click reliability monitor, which is supposed to monitor problems and crashes. The might give you some insight into what is causing problems. Also can you start the configuration utility?

What does the crash look like on screen, what does it actually do to Windows and what does it take to recover?

The million dollar question is...Is the game crashing the video card or is the card crashing the game?

Video hardware may be an issue, something like a PSU going bad, all the way up to a tanking card. There is no real reason that the game should suddenly crash your card unless you changed something from one play to the next. Have you played any other graphics intensive game lately or have you noticed any other issues?

It may be a corruption in save files, so you might try moving all of them out of the save folder and see if it makes a difference.
It may be a bad folder file in the whole DA2 documents folder(the one with the saves) so moving and letting it be recreated may fix. Have you installed ANYTHING new since the time the game last worked??
Will the config utility work, and does everything look ok from a data point in it?
What is the rating and brand of your PSU, ie 850w for example and Corsair as maker?
Have you tried reinstalling the game to see if it is corrupted(or running Steam verify integrity option)?

Good luck and keep us posted.

I do have random crashes in another game, league of legends. Unsure if it's related though. It crashes graphically, like you see it snag (like it does every time I start the game as it's going to the main menu) then the graphics look all out of place before it crashes the window and tells me the video driver crashed.

No I haven't installed anything new, the config utility works but configuring changed nothing but everything looks like datawise. My PSU is Corsair 850w,

Have you tried switching to DX9?
New drivers and multiple games sounds like hardware issue. I don't know of a really great way to check it at home, unless you have a spare graphics card laying around, and maybe a psu to go with it. The Corsair should be fine for your system, especially at 850w. You may want to remove part of your RAM and see if it still happens, and if it does swap out between what is in and what you previously removed from your computer. It may have a stick of ram going bad at the higher ends that isn't usually used, except in big games and needs.

Hey, i got the almost same problem over here, i come in to the main menu but when i try loading a new game the game crashes down on me. The thing is that i have never played the game before, (just the demo), i have tested it in both DX 9 and DX 10 and it is tha same problem, i got a nVidia Geforce 9800 GT with the latest drivers, and i do run some other "graphics intensive game" like Mass Effect 2 without any problems...

Thanks, mcsupersport.

Win7 64 bit
RAM: 2GB
AMD dual core C-50 (1GHz, 1MB L2 cache)
250GB SATA hard drive
AMD Radeon HD 6250 Discrete class Graphics
DirectX11

It looks like it may be my dual core isn't large enough, but maybe there's someone out there who knows better than I if that's the case or not.  I am technically challenged.

Thanks!

Ok, this is a low end laptop, trying to run a high end game.
Basically your CPU is too slow, and probably shares memory with the GPU, and is at the bare minimum of RAM as it is. No laptop is really supported because they don't do things the same as having separated Graphics and CPU, but some of the high end machines ie 800$+ may run it ok. This game is fairly harsh on both the cpu and gpu meaning it takes more than the average machine to run well.

If you want to play the game, then drop a wad of cash on a good desktop or very high end laptop(but be prepared for issues). Recommend you get a good friend to build you a good desktop, or purchase one designed for gaming.

Thanks, mcsupersport. I had figured that out just a few hours ago. DA:2 isn't my favorite, so I'm not really missing the game. So, I figured, that this laptop plays my other games (DA:O, BG, NWN...) so I'm gonna stick with this one, and once the specs for DA:3 come out, I'll splurge and get a proper computer. Thanks!
