My biggest pet peeve is the reused scenery. I can live with some minor glitches, a less dramatic romance scene, and even the slightly repetitive combat...well just barely anyway...but for some reason I just CAN'T replay the game when every tunnel looks the same.

So now I'm curious what you disliked most about Dragon Age 2 :D in prayers that they don't put what's listed here in Dragon Age 3 >.>

My biggest peeve is Hawke is "gone" the entire time.

Hawke = PC = Gone =  I only listen for Varric story = I only imagine things = I'm not actually role-playing = Waste my $60.00

Well for me its the one race. Dwarf Noble FTW. But my main one actually in the game is the graphics. I feel like I'm playing a game pre origins.

Basically my only problem was the recycled areas. I enjoyed the game apart from that. Scratch that, I miss my DW warrior. Not being able to wield twin long swords (though I understand why it was cut) was sad times.

You mean Fenris?

Yes, I also hate the few battles where you have to make sure you loot everything before you kill the last enemy, because you are immediately taken to a different area afterwards with no chance for post-battle looting.

Honestly, the wave system or the entirety of Act 3. Both things ruined the game for me. I loved that the spawns in DAO (like in BG) were pre-set and you could scout and strategize battles. So the waves ruined fights for me and were immersion breaking to boot.

Act 3 was just the worst writing in Bioware history, and had me facepalming every few minutes. And it was short.

Stealth is also an activated ability now instead of a sustained ability, so you can't go scout ahead for traps while your companions are a mile away. Scouting is also tough when you tell your companions to "hold" and they follow anyway.

Sebastian was ok, though I don't usually have him along other than for his personal quests. When he demands that I choose between him and Anders, I think I hear crickets in the background, as I always go with my healer mage rather than the redundant archer.

Tough question, because there were so many things I disliked so greatly, but the thing that made it impossible for me to overlook those things for the story/characters was the inability to speak to the companions and npcs at will throughout the game. I never felt like I really knew them or that there was any real reason for us to be hanging around together. To be fair, this was likely made worse by the outside of character POV of cutscenes and the dialogue wheel. Still, I think that was the main factor in my sense of alienation.

Biggest pet peeve is the poor flow fo quests in comparison to DAO.

DAO's quests i felt flowed well and complemented each other imo due to the quest hubs like denerim and the forests, but with DA2 i feel they are more often than not just thrown at you randomly and you seem to travel all over the place, it feels disjointed.

The fact that the game was a rush job.

Everything wrong with the game can be drawn back to that simple truth.

No.
Everything that is wrong with the game can be drawn back to that they (someone) wanted to make Dragon Age into something entirely different than it was.

I'd have to say the lack of choices, and not just story related, but in gameplay and self/companion customization.

Well, I'll be going against the thread a little by saying this, but there was little I seriously disliked, and the stuff I *did* dislike I actually got over in subsequent playthroughs.

I got the game recently at the steam sale, so I wasn't going into this having paid $60. maybe that's part of it. and i wasn't actually a huge fan of origins - that may be the other half.

Re-Used Maps: *shrug* i really didn't care much. personally, i found the quests compelling enough that i didn't mind i was in a similar area. maybe it's just 'cause i'm OCD when it comes to side quests and loot every blessed thing, but i was able to ignore the reused areas and think of them as new

NPC Characters: at first i disliked some of them, but upon replaying the game with a different character and RP angle, i found i liked them. they REALLY change depending on how you treat them or make decisions, so i felt they were all well written, likeable for some reasons, nasty in others, and generally made for interesting story. i also loved the banter.

i also LOVE the friend/rival system. made things much less "un party this guy to avoid disapproval" and more just role play  the game and let the relationships fall where they may.

voiced pc: love it. loved how hawke's options changed slightly based on what path you favored. truly, voiced pc makes for a much more immersive game for me.

Choices: I felt really pushed into a "bad" or tragic story at first, but then i realized i hadn't recruited 2 NPCs. with the fully cast, they give you all you need to know about how your decisions are likely to play out, so long as you listen to them. in some ways, you can't avoid a tragic-ish ending, but i found it MUCh happier than da:o. hell, you can end up alive, with your LI, and there were no demon babies in the making of this ending. right there, much happier. and 'choices' are always sort of a misnomer in games. for what you got, i thought it was good. it allowed you to tailor the story to how you thought it should be told, even if the ending is always a version of 'and then the world went to hell'

Quest system: frankly, i loved the way it guided you from place to place. i tend to play in snippets of time, so it was nice to be reminded of what i was doing where.

classes: had some rough patches. i wish mages were as uber as in da:o, since that was so nice from a story standpoint as well as gameplay.

graphics, sound, etc.: honestly, i liked it.

with all that said, the one thing that was my Pet Peeve (or rather, the thing that stuck out like a big sore thumb) was the quest All That Remains (aka, mom dies). i HATED that quest. it just seemed so totally over-the-top. i guess they figured momma can't just up and die of fever, since healer hawke would step in, but really? lilies and ... all that? i get that it was 'necessary' to clean out the family, but that quest just didn't seem to fit with the rest of the quests in tone. the 'serial killer' thing just felt so film noir and the rest of the game is so medieval. and the 'a bad blood mage did it' was just old by that point in time. it just seemed the quest came out of nowhere, struck mom dead, and ran away laughing. i would really have preferred some other way for her to die OR it would ahve been nice if there had been an alternate ending - she married some noble and moves back to ferelden.

anyhow. that ^ was my pet peeve. the rest i liked, and liked better each time i've played the game.

Everything other than the look of the qui'nari peeves me off massively, and even then they annoy me as they die like untrained, drunk school girls instead of warriors.

really? see, i liked that. but i guess it was because i saw myself as like a second varric, getting to tell the story, too. it was like co-writing the story a little more than role-playing, but it meant i was able to create hawkes i liked and that i felt 'made sense', even if i didn't personally agree with them. in ME, for example, i really only have 1 shepard, because i have a hard time not RPing shepard in 1 favorite way.

i felt DA2 did it pretty differently by doing it that way, and it did make me feel slightly distanced from the game's PC, but in some ways, i found that a strength and, for me, it's made the game really engaging and re-playable.

Anders.

More like not being able to do anything at all regarding him (for me anyway).

Oh so the apostate is planning something suspicious in the chantry. Wel I'll just make some vague allusions to Cullen who says "he'll get on it" and not go to Meredith. Why that makes perfect sense.
That and how Hawke goes from semi-intelligent (Yeah mom going into a templar trap with an apostate isn't a good idea and we should leave) to...whatever he was in act 3.

First of all, you do aware that Varric is unreliable narrator? Therefore, you can not take his words seriously. You need further verification which is what Cassandra suppose to do  ( either in future DLC or DA 3. That is if BioWare isn't too busy with their new story or it will stay cliffhanging forever. )

Second, in order to create something, that thing must react according to your will. For you, DA 2 fit your co-writing style. For me, it never is. Why? I don't like the way the story been delivered. A story based on third person account is a poor way to make your story believable. It lacks of credibility. Frame narrative is an interesting way to look back  the past but it also disconnect your readers from their current time frame. Therefore it must be handled with extra cautious. DA 2 execute that poorly. It fail to address the changes as the time pass. The city, the inhibitants, the streets, Fenris mansion etc... remain the same. Therefore DA 2 time frame is useless mechanics that only serve to interrupt the plot.

Lastly, we can argue all day long about exercising plot jump in a story but no matter what, plot jump is always be a device that disconnect the player/reader/audience from the story.

None of the 3 points above appeal me in my storytelling. Therefore, co-writing the story with varric doesn't exist in my book.

I feel I could have gotten over the fact that I didn't feel like I *was* Hawke, if this problem hadn't existed. Not feeling like I was really able to play "myself" *and* not having any "real friends" made the game a real disappointment to me, moreso than the story being on rails or the reused evironments and so on. "Alienation" is a good word for it.
