9:27 Dragon ~ Day 42
Today was a pleasant enough day. Senior Enchanter Irving, with approval from the Knight Commander of course, called for the Templars aid to allow the apprentices some time amongst the Circle’s perimeter. It calls to reason that even mages, as fragile as they appear, would desire some air not muddled by the stench of dusty books and pungent potions. I will admit, I myself have on occasion fallen prey to the slight maddening of the seemingly endless corridors. To feel the sun upon my face was not nearly as pleasing to me, as was the smile it had brought to the very woman that haunts me throughout the Fade and beyond. Oh, this silly infatuation shall be the death of me! I could not risk any suspicion by watching the singular mage too intently, so it was that I instead turned my eyes to the troublesome rogue that many of the other recruits had spoken of. Anders I believe they call him. Rumors told of his many escape attempts, though the success of such endeavors must be called into question by his continued presence on this day. I was not the only one to watch the rough-looking mage intently, there must have been at the very least five other recruits positioned at varying nearby locations. One of the stray cats that frequent the Circle’s libraries has taken a liking to the scamp. I’m told he has chosen a wild and unusual name for it. I’m also to believe that, not unlike the mage himself, the feline has a distinct distaste for any knights of the Order. As if a mere animal could hold such prejudices! Though I did not speak to the mage, many tell me that our manner of speech is strikingly similar, almost inordinately so. Our distance is most likely for the best, as Theodore also informs me that the cur has taken a liking to imitate my frequent stutter in the presence of a certain bright eyed, pouty-lipped mage. As I put pen to paper beneath the cooling shade of this mighty tree, I find my eyes slipping and the Fade calling to me from the back of my mind. I shall walk amongst the apprentices for now, for a demon surely lays patient in waiting if I am to break in my vigilance for even a moment longer.

My entry shall be short this day, for I am still recovering from yesterday’s “incident”. It shall be a clear day in the Fade when I attempt to befriend another cat unarmored. This Mr Wiggums is surely a Blight beast, disguised as a simple household pet, to cause such pain and damage to a hand hard and calloused from years of training at the hilt of a sword. I will write more tomorrow, as my fingers are once more beginning to bleed and dirty the page I mark upon.

I can barely write the words upon this page, my hands are shaking so. I caught sight of the lovely Amell today. She smelled of cakes and sweets and everything wonderful, as if that were even possible to imagine. She must have been assisting one of the Tranquil in the kitchens. If they were at all capable of experiencing the mad rush of emotions that the beautiful mage evokes upon myself, I would surely burst into a thousand pieces from my envy. This is not at all what vexes me still, what sparks the fire throughout my veins and fans the flames of my rage. No, the source of my anguish is that moron of a recruit Carroll...Even writing his name makes me want to curse the man in every tongue known throughout Thedas! Amell smiled at me, despite the anonymity that these blasted helmets bestow upon each one of us. Somehow still, she always seems to be able to recognize my person. Once I was sure my heart had begun beating at a steady rythm, I approached the object of each and every one of my desires. Today was going to be the day! I would not falter, I would not stutter like a fool. I would speak to her in every way I have imagined in the comfort of my mind, tell her of my admiration and devotion to never allow her to come to harm. Then of course, Carroll intervenes. He slips between the two of us like the venomous snake he is, chuckling and boasting of his own cooking prowess. Oh how I hate him so! By the time he had finished, my resolve had been feasted upon by my rage like a dying corpse to a crow. How foolish I must have looked, standing like stone whilst he captivated her with his tales of Denerim bakeries and Orlesian recipies. I finally excused myself, tripping over my weak explanation. Something about training I think, I cannot fully recall as I was such a wreck. I think I shall visit the kitchens tomorrow. Perhaps she shall return. If not, I could always try my hand at making something sweet for her ravishing lips to feed upon. Ah, if only were mine own lips that could be so lucky to be the recipient of such attentions!

Day 2: A templar is forgiving. Perhaps if I continue to repeat this to myself, it will be true. Carroll must be without a doubt the most… self-absorbed and idiotic braggart I have ever had the misfortune to meet. Today in the mess hall he was talking about the… charms of some of the female mages. He claims he’s keeping a count in notches on his bed post. The others think he’s adding them just for show…
Day 13: I must have done something to anger Greagoir, but what I know not. That is my only explanation for why I have now been assigned as Carroll's bunkmate. Between the excessive grooming in the glass and his snoring, I may finally lose my mind. I will, however, finally get to learn the truth behind the bed notches.
Day 14: Templars are not concerned about rank and privilege. But am now counting the days until my next promotion moves me out of the knights’ quarters. Apparently I was paired with Carroll, because his previous bunkmate was suddenly reassigned to Denerim. For mental health reasons. Unluckily for me, I was the next new knight to move up alphabetically.
