Keeping in mind that I read way too much fanfic, what kind of madness are we talking about here? Is it "I am Henry VIII" madness and cackling in a corner and pulling out your hair? Or is it "Sometimes I hear voices and by the way I've always loved you but no longer have a verbal filter"? There are several levels of insanity that I can deal with and (if well scripted) will happily endure. Posted Image

If it's the second he's getting nothing but red lyrium for breakfast every morning :D

I guess the proper answer would be that Cullen turning 'red lyrium evil' would be bad. I'd be a big fat liar if I said I wasn't curious what the writers would call "Evil Cullen" - bowler hat and mustache notwithstanding. In the end though, I'd rather deal with a reg lyrium issue and have the chance of nursing him back to reality. I'd be concerned that "Red Cullen" would be too permanent a condition.

Maybe the red lyrium makes you twist and deform quicker. In one of the codex entries it said that years of extreme lyrium abuse by the Tevinter magisters twisted their physical appearance until they were unrecognisable... Or did I imagine that? If so, then I think I need therapy. :-S

You probably do need therapy but it's also possible that you saw this somewhere. lol (We may need to look into a group therapist. I wonder how much one would charge for a thread session?)

MMG - I'm with you on the "Frosted Red Lyrium Flakes" for breakfast, if that's the case. Here's me: poisoning my man with a smile. LOL

That's a point! Cullen must have been in some form of close contact with red lyrium when Meredith had the red lyrium idol melted down and added to her sword. I wonder if he ever got any strange vibes when he had to check in on her to hand in reports etc.

MMG: I was thinking more along the lines that the demon was just kinda dormant inside him, waiting for the perfect time to take control of Cullen's body... To be fair, who wouldn't wanna take control of his body! That demon's got the right idea!

I can honestly say that I've never felt jealous of a demon until I read that.

LOL you're telling me!

Yeah, I think Red Cullen has potential for dangerous long term bad, but I think it would be an interesting story twist. Regardless, I hope we learn more about it.

So here's another question... Removing deus ex machine from the picture, like red lyrium, what would it take for you to be on an opposite side from Cullen? For him to be "the enemy"?

" The magister
lords of the Tevinter Imperium were widely reputed to have been so
affected by their years of lyrium use that they could not be recognized
by their own kin, nor even as creatures that had once been human.

Did not imagine it! :D
Hmm..is it just me or does it seem kinda sick that I put a smiley face on this particular post? lol

If he knew about the rape/torture in the Gallows and done nothing about it, or joined in then that would be an insta-murder knife from me. Aside from that, if he was completely anti-Mage to a point where it's extreme for no good reason (like killing an innocent Mage on site, no questions asked), so if he just bloody broods and ****es constantly like everytime he opens his mouth and is selfish, then I'd go off him rapidly lol.

JellyBean: Thank the Maker!

So, if that's what regular lyrium can do in extreme use, then imagine what red lyrium could do in a much shorter period. I predict mutated Templars in DA3!

I don't know guys. I'm a bit of a bleeding heart. He might have to light me on fire in my sleep to consider him the unequivocal enemy. There are so many shades of grey for me. I tend to try to find the good even when there isn't any. lol

I also keep forgetting to say "welcome" to JellyBean. I 'm a bad hostess. Posted Image

D'awww!

You have a point there though, in DA games the bad guys are never ultimately clear cut evil. Even the Archdemon and all the Darkspawn are just corrupted versions of their original form.

He'd only ever be "The Enemy" to me if he went all gung ho, killing mages. It's one thing to be morally grey and believe you're doing the Right Thing but quite another to be like "Mages are EBIILLL!!! They must die!!!!!" The DAO epilogue was something that had tainted me against him until I realized they never explicitly said it was him, and it wasn't the canon ending but only one of several possible endings. Now that the obvious answer is out of the way... I don't see how Cullen would be "The Enemy" for me unless he was unreasonably evil in some way. He could injure my mabari, rob my party for lyrium and I'd be all "Oh you poor thing! You don't need to point that big, pointy stick at me, you could have just asked!" It goes against my grain to kill someone who claims they want to change their wicked ways. ^_^

Edit: I forgot about the rapes... I'm still unclear as to if they happened and to whom. I'm even doing a new playthrough of DA2 to find their mention and thus far, nothing. But if he did know... I'd have a hard time dealing with that. It's a question that has never been answered and may never be.

lol that's ok, I feel very welcome here :wizard:
And I know how you feel on the many shades of grey. Especially when it comes to people or characters that you get along with so well. I always try to justify things people do, but sometimes I cannot. (I'm looking at you, Loghain <_<)

I'm now thinking about the quote Hawke says to Fenris "Nothing like fear with your wine"
Now it's "nothing like fear with your cheese"

LMVAO! Lola, you are awesome. All I can think of is the movie Elf when Buddy tells fake Santa he smells like beef and cheese.

And when I went to see Stone Temple (Templar?) Pilots a year ago and Scott Weiland showed up 2 hours late, totally wasted. Worst. Show. Ever. I left when the bottles started flying.

I was trying to look where it's mentioned, so far I only found the party banter he has with Sebastian

Sebastian: You seem very angry
Anders: And here I thought the chantry was against mind-reading.
Sebastian: Did something happen to you in the Circle? I understand there were problems in Ferelden...
Anders: Are you saying a mage can only be unhappy in the Circle if demons are involved?
Anders: No, it's not about Uldred. It's not about being beaten or raped by a templar-- that does happen, but I've been fortunate.
Anders: It's a larger principle: the freedom every man, woman, and child born in Thedas had as a natural right.
Sebastian: You were given to the circle. I was given to the Chantry. Hawke was driven away from home by darkspawn.
Sebastian: None of us are free.
dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Anders/Dialogue#Anders_and_Sebastian

that's all I can find at the moment.

Alain mentions that one of the horrible Templars comes into his quarters at night (LOL! Best accidental pun ever!), I can't remember the guys name though.
