He's like DA:O Cullen, but much younger and minus the facial hair.

... Is it weird that I find cosplayers who dress up as characters I like in games attractive, simply because they're pretending to be that character? But when they're just dressed normally as their regular self, then I don't lol.

Lol, no, its not weird. I do that too.

Really? That's a relief!

It's like "OMG HE'S CHANNELLING CULLEN/ALISTAIR/KAIDAN/GARRUS! Must. Sexually Harrass him. (Leave the outfit on!)"

He's a little on the young side lol Good cosplay though.

I don't find cosplayers attractive. It's the nerd factor. Not that I'm some holier than thou snob. I think cosplayers are great.

First, I must say you managed to name most of my favorite BioWare characters. :P
Second, I do it too.
In fact, I cosplayed Morrigan once and I was shocked to see my brother's friend (who I REALLY didn't like at the time) was cosplaying Alistair. It's safe to say I liked him much much more while he had that outfit on.

LOL! Still, you could be rude to him and just say your playing "in character" and get away with it lol.

What's funny about that is we argued so much during that and looking back on it, a lot of our arguements were like Morrigan and Alistair's. When that dawned on me, I finally realized why my brother was laughing at us so much.
Still, I had a hard time feeling like I didn't like him because he looked so much like Alistair
Once the outfit was off though, I went back to ignoring him whenever I could.

I really hope he doesn't cosplay Cullen at some point.

Maybe acceptable wasn't the best word, how about um accepted? In that we as players when presented with a character that is evil are less critical of that character when they commit an evil act than when a good character does the same.

Perhaps when presented with a scenario where a character must be killed but it's not a clear thing that the greater good will be served we are less critical of the anti-hero who kills than of the hero who kills?

I get what you mean.

Take Alrik (for example) who's running around torturing and raping. When we found out he'd been bumming poor Alain into next week, we were angry, but we weren't surprised because he came across as "evil", so it was to be expected. Whereas, if it turned out in DA3 that Cullen (who by this point appears to be a "good" guy/companion) had also participated in the rape and torture of mages, we'd feel shocked and betrayed... Then shank the bastard.

I think it always feels worse when it's some you previously deemed to be a good person, especially if you considered them to be a friend/companion because we've been deceived.

Did I get your meaning right Danny?

Yes you got it just right. I mean say if Cole was a companion, if he went around murder knifing people we'd sort of just take it as a part of his character and let it go, but if a character who we think exemplifies the good character than we're less critical. I mean (for R2's sake) if the companion in question who is ebil is not trying to atone, on the road to redemption or whatever and the good character is not good enough to be unbelievable that they'd do that evil thing but far from so evil that you'd expect it from them...if that makes sense.

LOL Sorry to be a pain in the butt, Danny! Certainly at some level your expectations of someone will be based on their past goodness/badness. So, I suppose one would naturally be more critical of someone who did something that goes against your expectation. I think I just don't like the notion that I would judge someone more harshly for doing something "bad" if they've had a clean slate up until then than I would judge someone who periodically had done similarly bad things before. But in practice, I'm sure it happens, and in fact we're probably all culpable of it at some point or other.

So, in Cullen's case, say he falls off the bandwagon and goes all "mages can't be treated like people;kill 'em all." Am I more likely to brush it off as a relapse and try to "fix" him again (i.e. less critical because he's been bad)? Or am I more likely to be shocked that someone so "good" could have such a "bad" opinion, therefore write him off? Interesting, as here I guess I contradict myself, and I'd pick door #1.

You're not being a pain hun, sorry if it sounded like I was saying that:?. I don't think IRL we do that as much as we do for fictional/literary characters since a lot of times we are expected to see a character a certain way for the purpose of the story.

Well thats sort of what I mean you'd want to fix someone who's fallen off the wagon, but what about someone who was already off the wagon? Would you care as much about that person? I mean I think'd you want to try and fix Cullen, but if it were...say Meredith...you'd be less forgiving know what I mean?

I just had a DA3 dream... Kinda. It was weird though because in my dream the protagonist started out as this Orlesian/French girl of about 15/16 years old who was kidnapped and left for dead in the blistering heat, but was found by bandits who dragged her back to their camp where she was offered to their leader as a slave, the boss guy made a few sexist remarks about taking her as a mistress/sex slave. So the girl was all like "just kill me blah blah" in a completely distraught state, but then suddenly she discovered her Mage powers (albeit very late in life) and killed the lot of them. Then it flashed forward in time to what she was doing several years later (presumably that's where we'd take over controlling the character if it was a real game), to which she returns to her quarters to find some lover of hers awaiting her, they had a brief "moment", but were rudely interupted by a warning that danger was coming. Suddenly it flashed forward again to her and 3 other companions running away from some unknown enemy (that I never actually saw) and it was suggested that she and her companions were heading for Orlais.

It was really odd, because in my dream I can remember thinking "I wonder when we'll run into Cullen? I hope he's going to be a companion this time, totally gonna romance him! I should find him first." - Then a woke up just as she recruited him and was disappointed because I thought I was playing the real game LOL!

Oh man, Lola, freakin' awesome dream!

Danny, on Meredith , indubitably you're right. She's got quite a bit to atone for... So it would be harder to forgive. Plus, she's just not quite as cute as Cullen... :D

Well, I'm out. Here's hoping my power survives Hurricane Sandy... Which apparently is rather unlikely. :( Figures Long Island would be in for worst of it. Peace, out.

Lol thanks! Something else about the dream, was that the characters were all in a similar style to DA2, so Cullen looked pretty much like his DA2 model but there was enough change in the art style for them to all look more realistic and detailed/polished. So they were the same, but different, but not in such a drastic way as the transition between DA:O and DA2.

I've done that on numerous occassions. The last time I did was for Dragon Age 2 and I was convinced it was DLC though when I think back to it I'm not sure, it could have been DA3. In it I'm with my protagonist who I thought was Hawke and he's in a super BA black armor (which is funny because I can't stand to have him in anything but the Mantle armor). Anyway "Hawke" and his three companions are in the middle of a desert with a looming storm in the distance. It's very surreal because the sun is still shining brightly against the sand creating this contrast between the black/grey storm clouds and the golden sand.

Nearby is a ruined building/fortress and we're headed in that general direction when this giant serpent/worm like creature bursts from the ground with spike like tentacles and a razor sharp hide. In that moment we're all impaled one by one but instead of the death screen it goes to a cutscene...and then I wake up lol.

Lola's was more awesome though lol. What if they actually happened though?

Maybe the description of events that you were talking about Lola with the bandits was your character's background. We know they aren't playable so maybe you watch them happen? Did they say that each background starts off in the same place? I mean we don't have to start in the same place in order to have a playable background.

I'd say the desert was the Western Approach...eerie:blush:

Lol weird, we both had deserts in our dream.

The start of It felt more like an intro cutscene, like it was her backstory. I remember in the "playable part" of the dream as I set off for Orlais, we had to go across this huge bridge. But I think that was probably influenced by the castle concept art lol. I also remember thinking Cullen was already part of the party because one of the other companions had a similar voice, but it turned out to be some weird Dobby like creature companion. :-S

... Apparently Greg Ellis VO's hundreds of characters in my dreams too LOL!

Best wishes to R2s Muse and hopes that she stays safe and dry. I'm in northwest New Jersey and will probably weather the hurricane with nothing but a flooded basement and an inevitable power outage, but I'll be thinking of you folks on the coast. A huge portion of Long Island was under evacuation orders. Let us know that you're OK!

Just checking in briefly as my power finally starts to flicker in and out... Bah! Glad to hear you're not in the main path, berelinde. I thought of you when I saw where it was making landfall. Watching the flooding on TV is something. Luckily we're up on a hill overlooking the sound, so only danger is no lights.

Everyone stay safe and think warm culleny thoughts. R2 out!
