Cool! Did that work?? Can you cast in DA:O when wearing armor?? I think my DnD brain is interfering. Maybe THAT's what I should have done. I couldn't stand being a mage in DA:O. Indeed, too slow, and when I did cast, I drew all the aggro and died. I like being on the front lines too much. DA2 mages were much more my style (which is basically finesse-less and strategy-less!).
Yep, you can. I usually wear heavy armor while casting spells as an arcane warrior. I never mind the slowness, but maybe I'm just used to it now? I usually play as a mage in DA:O simply because it's my favorite origin story.

Same here, but I didn't play as an Elf mage, just cos I always found the Elves I tried to make came out looking really weird. Although my first ever playthrough was with a City Elf lol.

I've always played as Amell when I play the mage origin. When I go to play as an elf, I usually go for the Dalish origin for some reason. I agree, also, it always takes me forever to get my elves to look right.

I also like the fact that Hawke is related to Amell because it gave the game an extra layer. In a way it would be kinda cool to have the option of being an Amell again, although I dunno if I'd play as one if Cullen is romancable lol.

I always felt weak and scrawny as an elf. I played through both origins once and never looked back. If I did roll a mage though I always made sure to have some sword wielding abilities if I could.charlottecorday wrote...

Maybe if a rogue picked an assassin specialisation then that would get a reaction? But what about warriors?

Maybe a rogue would get comments about picking locks or breaking into places. Or a warrior could get the "oh I bet you think you're a tough guy" kind of lip from other bar patrons.
Lol probably. I'm thinking that the only specialisation that'll really make an impression would be blood mage, everything else would be based on your protagonists background maybe?

I'm so curious to see what kind of background we'll have in DA3, and what kinds of specialisations each class will get. I mean, obviously if you're a blood mage then we all know the kind of reaction that would get, but what of the other classes? What could be picked that would create different reactions.

Maybe you'd be able to pick Templar abilities as a warrior and have some sort of history working as a Templar? I think that might be cool, especially if you even got the lyrium addiction with it. I'm sure any mage companions would have opinions on this.

Oooo that would be a good one! I wonder what the Templars reaction would be if you went against them as the Inquisitor (or whatever it is we'll be).

I'd imagine a warrior with a reaver specialization would garner some interesting reactions as well.

This is just what I was thinking. The templar specialization should have some kind of ramifications. Whether it's "so, you quit the templars?" or "who did you kill to learn that?" there should be some explanation as to why an ostensibly NON-templar has those abilities. And, sleeping with Alistair is not enough of a justification in my book ...
edit: I read a fun fanfic where Hawke was basically a deserter and that came into play in her, erm, interactions with Cullen. Oh. Yeah.

So, regarding agressive!Cullen up there (back there...?) I think you're right, brush, that I don't imagine Amell-era Cullen being very assertive. But then, once he's been with someone for a while, I don't think a scene like that would be very out of character at all. After all, look at how self-assured he was in DA2. So, I guess that pic to me looks like their relationship is rather advanced...

I read a fan fic once where Bethany and Cullen were locked in a magic room and Cullen was chained to the bed etc. In that Cullen was a complete tosser. Like one minute he was being nice to Bethany and then he was treating her like a sex slave and it just went on and on and on like that for pages. In the end I just stopped reading it because it was completely unbelievable and ridiculous. Methinks someone had been reading 50 Shades of Grey when they wrote it LOL.

I wonder if any reference to Evangeline "running off to shack up with a mage" will be made in DA3 when we visit Orlais?
That would be cool... altho I dunno how many refs to "outside" properties they'll include. Folks seem to take it negatively when they feel that they have to pay money for other "stuff" to get the backstory.
