And, I reference your MLaw interchange about the Frostbacks and the concept art castle a page or two back. Perhaps you can confirm/clarify? We were trying to figure out how plausible it is that the flag was Orlesian (based on Lola's whip sharp memory that Asunder said it was red).

The red flags referenced in Asunder also made me wonder if those big red flags in the second concept art in the big open field was the Orlesian army, because in the book Evangeline and co mention seeing the flags of the Orlesian army heading back towards Val Royeaux during the uproar.

Is Asunder the most recent book to be released? It's so hard to keep track of which came first when I haven't read a single one Image IPB If DA 3 is going to have references to it, subtle or otherwise, I might have to go ahead and read it.

@littlenikki, IMO, Asunder is totally worth a read. It is the latest and it picks up directly after the events of Act 3. While the books technically aren't canon, most of it is canon independent (except perhaps if Wynne died in your game or you never recruited Shale) and it ends with a big plot point already mentioned by Varric & Cassandra. If you're chomping at the bit for DA3, I personally think it's a must read. [the other two books are DA:O prequels]

@Lola, in the 2nd concept art thing, it could be the Orlesian army, but I'm pretty convinced that those are aravels, which I believe are Dalish-only, right? Particularly with the elven scout in the foreground. I still wonder if/how they'll reference those Asunder happenings.

I think they'll have npc make references to it or something.

Hmm...well, I am feeling pretty antsy for DA 3...and I do have a whole day off tomorrow. I just might snag it on Kindle then. Thanks for the run down! Image IPB

Hey, if you're on kindle, I could "lend" you my copy, if you like. I think I can do that for two weeks or something.

Oh that's sweet, but I'll probably just buy it on my own so I can go back and read it later if I want. I just read through the 1st chapter with the "Try It" option...I'm so confused! Image IPB

Lol, the book kinda jumps back and forth from different peoples perspectives so it can get a little confusing at times.

I'm at the ballroom part now, very hopeful that we will get to experience some of those Orlesian customs in-game. I know that masquerades are a tad bit overused...but fancy masks and ballgowns! Come on, we need that!

I like that part, it gives you glimpse of how "fake" the Orlesian aristocrats are. Hopefully we'll get to experience that first hand in DA3.

Hopefully we'll also get a renegade interrupt option if some uppity noble tries to trip our PC in order to make moves on Cullen Image IPB

After finishing that chapter, I think I might like a "Hit the rich snob" option, even without them stepping between my PC and Cullen. What jerks!

Things would be a LOT more lively if he were. Considering we have yet to hear anything new about the game, companion confirmations are going to be a long way off.

Naw, bugger all currently. Looks like we won't be getting anymore DA3 info until Spring now either, which sucks.

So someone in one of the DA3 threads said:

"Sounds to me like they just didn't want to leave any room for speculation on how short the development cycle will be. When was DAII released? Two years was way too short before and they're even using a whole new game engine this time. Allow me to formally predict disaster resulting from this release date."

What are you guys thought on that? Do you suppose that the game could end up feeling rushed since they are using a completely new engine that they've had to get to grips with all over again?

I wouldn't let the doomsayers make you worry tbh. They'll use any slight change or tweak in the system to "predict" that the game will be a total disaster. Their assumptions are based on nothing.

If starting from a new engine were to seriously cut into the games development, I doubt they would have made that decision. I wont pretend to be an expert on game engines, I've only slightly played around with the Unreal engine as of late and I can still do nothing but create a floor with some junk scattered around. I trust that the team of developers are smart enough to know how much time they need to complete a game that can more than match up to our expectations. That is, reasonable expectations. Not the demands of the entitled and ranting posters who do nothing but nit pick at every single thing the Bioware team does.

It seems for sure that they are really taking their time, and the suggestions of the players, to create a fantastic game. I wouldn't worry about the change in game engine of which they're building off of.

Edit: We haven't even recieved a solid release date yet, just a generalization that can easily be subject to change if the team deems it necessary. That sentence alone should disprove the validity of that poster's statement.

So DA3 has been worked on for two years now? I think?
People have to remember that DA:O took longer because they had to create the whole world, lore and everything.

I think a lot of it was pre-production. I remember seeing a bioware blog interview thingy with Hepler and she said that they had only just started production... I think that was a few months ago. I'll see if I can find the post.

This was posted in June, so they've only been working on the production for a few months now.

I think they mentioned working on it even slightly before DA 2 was finished, so by the time it comes out (if we are to believe a fall release date) It will have been almost 3 years that they were working on this. If they already had a lot of the writing and plotlines nailed out, hopefully that leaves a lot more time for the animators and such to work on maps, characters, enviroment, etc.

Edit: Nvm, got Lola-disproven Image IPB

Yes, but pre-production has been going on since DA2's release, right? Moreover, they clearly already had ideas for what DA3's story would be since whenever the DA2 Strat guide's copy was written, since it mentioned that the next game would be about an Inquisition. Shade's point is a good one, that with DA:O they spent like six years on it, but had to build everything from scratch. I think this game has quite a bit to stand on moving forward.

Anyhoo, I'm not remotely knowledgable about the game industry... but I'm not worried. I think the naysayers will say nay about anything with regard to DA anymore.

They will have a teaser trailer like they did for Mass Effect 3 at the VGA Awards.

But it likely won't have that much info just like teaser trailers usually are.
