Bless him. He's definitely voicing Cullen in some capacity, he just got told off for revealing it lol. Still, it's an easy mistake to make since it's unlikely that he follows the games development or anything.

tee hee... he favorited my response! I am in ridiculous fangirl heaven right now!!

So, first, if you tell them to arrest Alain instead of go easy on him, then that's where Cullen says not to trust mages.

BUT -- if you then tell him to execute the mages... he says something interesting.
"I can see why the Knight-Commander thinks so highly of you." But... his tone of voice almost sounds... dismissive, like "I can see why SHE thinks of highly of you, but I don't..." Interesting.

Then... he throws Samson to the wolves as well. LOL

Y'know, I actually think that a lot of Cullen's change in tone is down to the way they record the characters dialogue. Apparently they tend to record lines in segments, rather than a whole scene all at once, so of course, once it's been spliced into the game it can sometime sound like the character is a bit wishy washy, contradictory... or just plain weird (Kaidan's ME1 post-coital outburst of "JOKERS WAITING FOR YOU ON THE BRIDGE!!!" springs to mind LOL!) Most of the time it all works out fine, but sometimes these things slip through the net and can seem a little confusing or contradictory to the tone in which the character had spoken literally seconds before lol.
Also, I adore Cullen's nose. I've never seen it from the side before, but it's very cute!

Omg, that was so awful. It would've been so much better if they just didn't include that line at all.

This will be the first and last time I ask this question without an ulterior motive, I legitimately want to know. I'll save the trolling for launch:
Those of you who describe Cullen's flirtations with f!Amell in DA:O as "sweet" would you mind explaining how you reconcile this with:Furthermore, to those of you whose interest increased based on his appearance in DA:2:
- His position of authority with regards to life and death over f!Amell.
- His acknowledgement that had things gone differently, he would have executed f!Amell.
- His categorization of his interest in f!Amell as a shameful, childish, infatuation upon her return to the Tower during Broken Circle.
Finally, if any or all of the above are acknowledged in your answer as problematic, is your interest in a Cullen/mage romance predicated on his recanting and/or converting to a different viewpoint? What if he doesn't?
- His assertion that mages - such as many present suppose to romance him with in DA:3 - "are not people."
If you'd like to interpret this post as being a hint as to why there is backlash towards Cullen romance fans on here and Tumblr, that would be perfectly reasonable, because it is.
I have an answer. I consider this to be kind of wasteful. You are in a Cullen Fan thread, asking questions that get continually asked of us. Want an answer. This thread is about 1080 pages long. Read through it and you'll find very good descriptive answers to your questions.
Those of us here don't feel the need to constantly describe to those who don't understand. You don't see us going to you asking you why you don't like him and to justify why. We don't need to defend the reason why we like him. But if you really want a long answer. Go through all the pages. There's a reason why there are so many. I suggest starting at page 1
I'd like to answer Mr. Shorts as a male straight gamer...since it is often said that I don't exist. Personally I have no real interest to romance Cullen except to partake in the discussion here if and when he becomes one. Essentially Cullen is a tortured soul within the Dragon Age universe however the source of his pain comes mostly from his own self-doubt and personal guilt.
1. Cullen's position over whether Amell/Surana is something of an afterthought when you first meet him and much like you don't blame the executioner for doing his job (unless he takes a sick pleasure out of it which unless I've missed something Cullen has not shown that he does) I doubt these ladies (I don't speak for them mind you) really blame Cullen for having a say in whether they live or die. Mind you that he has to go to Gregoir before he can kill Surana/Amell anyway making his actual "authority" over their lives questionable to say the least. If I haven't answered your question than to be clearer we don't really blame him for being given the power to kill us, you may not agree with it or approve of his beliefs but we resign ourselves to understanding that it's out of both our and his control.
2. Seeing as how Cullen had gone through a terrible ordeal previous to saying the statement one that has left obvious mental scars I can't really blame him for saying that, nonetheless he did say it. I honestly believe in the idea of the Circle however the implementation and subsequent abuse of authority are abhorrent to me and thus a better solution must be found. That does not mitigate the danger a mage can possibly cause and I believe that if the mage in question were given a choice between dying and becoming an abomination that could kill dozens they'd choose the former and be thankful that Cullen didn't let his feelings get in the way of doing his duty as well as keeping me from becoming a monster. Part of me thinks that I'd have this tenuous relationship with Cullen, I hate that I am not free, I hate that I'm treated like a prisoner but this particular templar has been kind to me and has feared the idea of killing me, but when of the mages he had advocated for in the past turns around, kills dozens, tortures and kills his friends in front of the templar and then takes pleasure in torturing him than I'm not shocked that his view on magic has become less than favorable. If Cullen were a woman and felt like that I'd want to show her that not all mages were like Uldred and that his previous faith in us was not illplaced. If there was a spark there from our time in the Circle (i.e. the above) than I'd want to help her find peace and remember the sweet person she really is, not the person she has been tortured into becoming.
3. Cullen as a character is deeply conflicted who takes his vows very seriously unlike other templars who use their position as a means to do what they want when they want. He suffers doubt that comes from his need to do the right thing while also staying loyal to his faith. He is also forbidden from frateranizing with a mage so for someone so devoted to his religion the act of disobeying the tenets of what is supposed to be a religious order he would find his feelings shameful even though in normal circumstances they would not be. So most of us here I imagine while not completely agreeing with his beliefs respect them and sometimes even admire him for his devotion because if he can be that devoted to his faith imagne what he could be like to a loved one in a relationship.
4. This is to your last two questions. Cullen throughout the Broken Circle and much of DA2 shows his more anti-mage attitudes and like you at the time I was very much confused as to why someone would like him, but although he talks a very anti-mage game he proves to be much more lenient and tolerable during the game as opposed to Alrik and the like. When he calls mages not people I always took it as how he had to treat them following his experience in the Circle rather than how he actually sees them. They are inmates not his friends so to speak rather than they are subhuman abominations. Finally if Cullen doesn't change I'll be a little dissapointed but then for the most part I wasn't promised that he would and up until this point he has yet to do anything that I can really hate him for that hasn't become non-canon or null in void. So if he starts to kill babies I'll like him less but at this point I like him because he is a devoted soul who tries to fight for what is right and I can't fault him on that.
Anyway /end rant. Again I don't speak for anyone but myself here.

The worst part is, he continues to talk normally after that. It's pretty obvious that line was thrown in there as an afterthought.

I really like the expressions Cullen has, he always looks so pained, like a puppy that broke its leg. And when he's mad, well, its still purr worthy. :3
Yeah, I like that whoever designed his DA2 model managed to capture that haunted sad look on his face. I dunno if it was purposely done or a happy accident, but it's perfect!
