Just poppin' in for a quick hello before I head out.
I heard you guys had a good/bad week on the BSN, so here's something I made for you all:
Cullen having semi-violent thoughts about his fans haters. (not finished, also, I suck at backgrounds).

:) so, hello

Haha! Yeah, there's that... But still.
I'm willing to bet I was reading a lot of Alistair fanfic when I signed up. XD
And with that bit of too much information, lol, I'm off.
Go Cullen fans!

I also wanted to comment about something on here. About how Cullen felt about the Qunari. I believe at one point during Act 2 in DA2, you can ask Cullen how he feels about the Qunari and he calls them heathens. And that's BEFORE they attack the city.

Ah, that's true!  But then... he also calls the dwarves heathens in DA:O.  Very stone throwy, that Cullen. I do hope, if he's in the next one, we get to see him encounter the "real" world a bit more, instead of his insular Circle towers. Like, what happens when he starts calling the heathens that to their faces? LOL

I look forward to that too, R2. It will be very interesting to see what kind of culture clashes Cullen will have out in the big wide world. Has he warmed up to Dwarves since DA:O? Who knows? There weren't very many in KirkwalI it seems. I can understand his views on the Qunari though. Right or wrong, there's no doubt that he's a somewhat devout Andrastian, and the qun just presents different, sometimes conflicting ideologies. Clearly he's not comfortable with that.

From my pov as a player, I never did feel that strongly about the Arishok. Some people really love his character, but after the whole story arc in DA2, he just seems like a different type of religious zealot. I find that I'm not too keen to strongly support either religion I've seen so far.

edit: I meant to say welcome to Dreamlover2012 =]

I just think he's a bit closed minded, which is understandable if he's been cooped up in the Order/Chantry for most of his life being told that their way is the correct way lol. Maybe if he's a companion then he'll relax a bit and learn to be more tolerant.

Nice art, Arin!

About Cullen referring to Qunari and dwarves as heathens... it's kinda true.

English-speaking people have assigned negative connotations to the word (like "Inquisition"), but in Thedas, it's a word people use to describe people who aren't Andrastian. The Chantry has appointed itself the official religion of Thedas, claiming sovereignty over dwarves, the Dalish, the Chasind, and everybody else, so anybody who practices another faith is heathen by default. You can't blame Cullen for a decision that was made ages before his birth.

I'm curious to see how he interacts with people raised to a different faith. I would expect a period of adjustment while he learned that non-belief in Andraste does not equate with stupidity or with moral degeneracy, but he isn't an idiot. I'd like to think that he isn't one to cling stubbornly to an idea even after it has been proven wrong.

I know what you mean, Narcia. During the game, I loved the Arishok as an individual. My Hawke felt the warm fuzzies for impressing him. But, once I played MOTA, I got so confused about the Qun that its intricacies unfortunately no longer appealed to me. I blame Tallis! [kidding!] Nevertheless, I'm sure if there were a new Qunari character, he/she would bring something new and interesting.

One thing I liked about Cullen in DA2 was his subtle diplomacy. After Act 1, I guess, most of the time you talk to him, he tends to obscure his own opinion and instead talks about "what they say" or "that's the popular opinion, no?"  Like regarding the tranquil solution, he never told you what *he* thought of the right of tranquility. If that's a real trait, it would be interesting to see that war with his inherent cultural insularity. So, would he call a qunari a heathen to his face?  He did with Oghren, but he was also under duress. And, it's Oghren. LOL

I never brought Oghren to the Circle tower, so I'm curious. How did Oghren react to being called a heathen? If I were writing the scene in fanfic, I'd have had him respond with a colorful-yet-harmless counter-insult involving men in skirts.

You can see it here. Oghren basically thinks it's funny. LOL

He calls Oghren an ignorant, cave-dwelling heathen. Oghren says, "have we met before?"

LOL For how much Oghren tends to bug me, he does have some pretty funny lines.

Hahahaha! Oghren cracks me up.

Also, I don't blame Cullen for his reaction. When I asked Cullen about the Qunari, I actually expected his answer. He was raised in the Chantry, so it made sense that he would react that way.

Regarding DG's tumbler:
Wow. I wonder if we'll be able to pick out the plot line that had to be changed.

I was wondering that myself. Since they subsequently changed it, I doubt we could figure it out without more context... but I'm sure that won't stop us from looking for it!

Huh.  That IS interesting.  Now I really, really wanna know what plot that was :D

From a writing standpoint, I also wanna know what the difference between "good-creepy" and "bad-creepy" is.  I'm guessing it could be intentional vs. nonintentional creepy?

It could be the different between creepy and triggering...?  If it was something that could be interpreted as a rape... that could be a big trigger for some.

It reminds me of the bruhaha surrounding the new Lara Croft game and the rape-like overtones that only some of the trailer viewers were seeing. :shudder:

I thought of that too. Their arguments that she "needed to be hardened by life experiences" and those creepy fans that said they really wanted to see her raped. I think that incident said a lot about sexism in game development and the community at large, not to mention highlights the necessity of feminine input and experiences that Gaider was talking about.
