Eek, where'd everyone go?
Anyhoo, for those interested, new DG post on character creation. Interesting tidbits on early DA:O characterizations and on the decision process for who's a follower/LI etc. Plus, a nice little reiteration that they don't "pander to fangirls." (fangirls FTW!)

I heard that there was, but I'm not sure. It doesn't matter if there is no romance, but if there are romance options in the game, I want to at least be able to romance M/M. I heard that the relationship will carry over to Baldur's Gate 2.R2s Muse wrote...
Do they even have romances in BG:EE? I thought it was a upgrade of BG original...?

That would be cool. I haven't read much about it myself, only vaguely recalling that romances originally didn't start til BG2... I think?
Where's berelinde when you need her?

People have been discussed romance on the forum for a while, and there are hints that one of the characters would be bisexual. I'm hoping for Basaad. They said that females will get another romance in DG2 which will carry over from previous game. I would pick this game up if I can romance Basaad as well. It's not important, but I like to be able to play as myself.

LOL! Yeah, I get that a lot. I kind of like the ambiguity because it lets me avoid gender stereotyping, which has always been a sensitive subject. This thread seems to be free of that, though, so I don't mind hanging out and acting girly. Or as girly as I get.Battlebloodmage wrote...

I'm not sure how accurate TVtropes is but while the original base game featured no romance, the upcoming Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition is reportedly going to include romance.

I guess I like to play as myself is because there are tons of games where you can play as a straight woman and numerous games where you can play as an alpha straight male. I finally feel included because I am being represented in the game. I like to play as females in some games because I like the idea of strong women saving the world. I'm adhorred at the stereotypical alpha white males saving the world.berelinde wrote...

The original Baldur's Gate did not feature romances. It barely had any character development at all. Each of the 26 NPCs had a unique soundset and a few had minor, character-specific interaction in the overall game plot, but that was about it. Baldur's Gate 2 was the first game to offer banter as we know it. It also offered romances - three for male protagonists (a cloyingly sweet virgin, a bossy older woman, and a perverted drow) and one for female protagonists (a would-be knight-in-shining-armor). Eventually, somebody figured out how to convert BG to the BG2 engine, which made BG2 character features - banter, romances - possible. A group of modders at the Gibberlings Three modding community created a comprehensive mod that added banter, quests, and 6 romances (3 per gender) to the Baldur's Gate game. All of the romances were strictly heterosexual.
As for the BG:EE thing, just about everyone seems to be better informed about it than I am. They are introducing three new characters, all of whom will be romanceable, although only one is supposed to be bi. I too am hoping it's Rasaad, but knowing my luck, it will probably be the girl.
Oddly enough, I'm not big on playing as myself. I prefer to play as a gay or bisexual male.
Edit: If you're looking for a M/M romance for BG2, I'd skip Solaufein, which is kind of gender-irrelevant, and try Nathaniel or Faren. They can be found at Spellhold Studios.
Edit2: I'm kind of leery about romances that span both games. I've written one (a male cleric who romances female protagonists), and the pacing is murder. It's tough to write it so that the content doesn't get repetitive... or to write it so that the second game doesn't require the first. My concern is that by attempting to make one romance span both games, it will feel incomplete. I guess we'll find out.

QFT... unfortunately.Truth of the matter is straight male gamers are the majority, and a lot of them find it out of place to see others who are not interested in sexy female characters.

Fangirls always seem to get a bad rap...there's fan art and fiction and all that junk. But uhmmm I seem to recall that there are a lot of guys out there doing the same thing...or is it just me?
Second this! LOL We need to come up with a special moniker for that.berelinde wrote...
