LOL Danny, you tease! You didn't add in the artist's tease that this is a dwarf lady for the upcoming comic series... ahem, the one that focuses on Varric's  backstory...

Beueller...? Bueller...? Bueller...?  :bandit:

A dwarf, you say? Makes sense. She has a chest almost as nice as Varric's!  Image IPB

... If that's Bianca, then I can totally see why he named his bow after her! <3

(Why do I have the horrible feeling that she'll end up dying? :()

My husband was super upset that he couldn't romance Aveline! But looking back on it, Aveline seemed completely underwhelming to me as a character in her first pre-DAII release descriptions, and she turned out to be the most well-fleshed-out character in the whole party for me. Maybe someone like Sera could (hopefully) surprise you in the same way and be romanceable? *fingers crossed*

Good points, all, about the archetypes of the women romanceables. I had a really hard time with my male Cousland playthrough finding a match. I wanted to throw a tantrum on Morrigan constantly... "Fine! then tell me what you want me to say! should I be nice to you or mean to you??"

LOL On DA2, my husband was upset he couldn't romance Flemeth (!). Maybe even contributed to why he never even finished his playthrough.

As much as I'm concerned about what it says about me that my hubby wanted to be with Manny McMan-Hands, I'm slightly more alarmed by your situation. LOL!!

Late to the party....

I'm not fond of Leliana either. I have no long thought out intelligent post to explain way. I'm a hater!

I never felt conflicted in either game. For the longest time, Zevran was the only option for my Warden. But if I'd had the chance to choose Alistair, it would have always been Alistair.

In DA2, it is always Fenris. If I want to romance Anders, I have to not recruit Fenris. His pull on Hawke is that strong in my game!

I just tend to have OTPs, and I'm super loyal to them I guess ^///^

You know, Danny, they've been having that problem with female romanceables since BG2. Aerie=cutesy virgin. Jaheira=disturbingly maternal cougar. Viconia=tramp with issues. I was delighted with the females in DA2 because I felt that to a large extent, they broke out of that mold. Isabela owned her sexuality, but she wasn't as shallow as she pretended to be. She was a hedonist, but she was very protective of her friends' feelings. Look at how she treated Merrill. She never accused her of being silly or stupid. Instead, she focused on Merrill's compassion and sweetness. Look at how she treated Aveline. Sure, she busted Aveline's chops about being mannish, but she never accused her of being less of a woman because of it. She chose "safe" subjects for her ribbing, subjects that would get a reaction, but not ones that would make the listener feel bad about who or what they were. She built the others up without patronizing them.

As for Merrill, she was sweet and inexperienced, but she was not stupid. She knew that what she was doing was risky (and she knew in precisely which ways), but her love for her people was great enough for her to risk it anyway. She did not always make the best choices, but you can't hate somebody for that. We all do it.

My knowledge of Merrill and her motivations is not as extensive as it could be. I adore her as a character, but since I play DPS mages, I don't take her out as much as I should and therefore, I miss a lot of her banters.

Don't get me wrong I don't dislike any of the characters exept maybe the serial killer from Act 1 and Petrice (she makes religious people look so bad but sadly it's not a completely innacurate portrayal just not one that accurately portrays ALL of us lol). I feel like every companion on our squad can actively take care of themselves outside of Hawke or the Warden's care otherwise they would never have been recruited by our character. Merrill however I always think of as the true little sister, especially for mages who don't get to experience Bethany. She needs a bit of hand holding and a good portion of the group tends to baby her though I often thought that it was odd that they never tried to keep her our of combat as much as possible. She is someone who I legitametaly care for but as I've said countless times I just can't romance her because of the cultural difference between my Hawke and her and Carver's feelings for her.

Isabela and Morrigan who I sort of put in the spot light are really only there because I romanced them and I find their stories quite appealing if only lacking in the exact thing I'm looking for, that thing Samara has. Aveline honestly was quite sexy to me, if I'm being quite honest, if only because she can be straight foward, but not in a hurtful manner, as well as having an awkward romantic side.

I would have jumped at the chance to romance her because the idea of "courting" her is both hilarious and in my mind quite sweet since IRL I'm sort of ****e when it comes at being the normal guy. When I was still in high school I bought this girl I was interested in the works, orchids, a teddy bear and chocolates for Valentines Day which is something I would probably do for the romance in the game. Leliana and Aveline are likely the only people who could properly appreciate what those things meant although Aveline would likely be embarrased or give me the "EYEBROW" and wonder why I didn't get her a cow or copper marigolds like a NORMAL person.

I liked Aveline and used her a lot in my playthrough.   I liked her awkwardness when trying to romance Donnic. Shame my Hawke could not romance her!

Morrigan - hard to please.  Shiny things help though!

Flemeth - in DA2 she does look really .. um... well she looks great for her age.  I mean she really does!  In DAO she was rather dowdy looking.  As makeovers go, it was impressive!

An issue I'm having with the romances for men is that they all seem to be the happy go lucky teen and the oversexed seductress 30yr old. Not that either are issues, nor am I saying that that is the basis or even a truly prominent piece of their characters but it seems to fall into that broad archetype.

One of the things I was soorly dissapointed with (though I got over it) was that I couldn't romance Samara in ME2. She was this older traveled woman, not only experienced and cultured but funny and dedicated when she wanted to be. Idk I guess what I want is a more cultured romance option, not that the ones we have aren't but it'd be nice to have a super sexy, intelligent woman who doesn't go on about how great she is (Morrigan), who is able to pull off being sexually appealing without having to resort to outright euphanisms (Isabela) but who also isn't going through some angsty, all consuming issue.

Sorry for the run on sentence :P

I think that was put really well, and I see your point. There's one that's (maybe) too cutesey and one that's (maybe) too mature. And also reluctant to begin a real relationship, whereas the other one jumps into the commitment stuff with both feet.

I personally was really disappointed with the romance options for guy-mancers in DAII, and I really have nothing to complain about since Origins gave my Alistair and both games let me at least perv on Cullen. So I can just imagine how irritating that must be for lady-mancers! Hopefully DAIII gives you something new to be excited about.

I like all the romances if I'm honest (though I'm very easy to please in that regard) but Aveline as a character was very interesting to me and for some reason the romances that interest me the most...are unavailable (Samara/Aveline/Sigrun).I fully expect the writers to surprise me in some way, I might love Sera, she might be the first non-human I romance in one of my canon playthroughs. The only thing I expect is quality and for the most part BW has delivered.

Doc Moto!!!! *Waves* HEY!!!!

You know for me I tend to choose the most...hmm canon I guess or rather what I feel is more canon. For instance in the DA2 trailer Hawke is seen kissing Isabela and the Warden almost seems pushed towards a romance with Morrigan with the Dark Ritual and Witch Hunt though obviously just my diluted opinion.:P

I might play a lady this time depending on who the poster child for DA3 is. (Here's a secret of mine: It's one of the reasons I can't wait for the CGI trailers because that's how I pick the gender, race and appearance (sometimes romance) of my character).

It's easier for me to play the game when I'm not raging because my Warden's nose is is to small or he looks like he hasn't seen the light of day since he was born.

Me: Ah finally my Cousland looks great lets jump in!

Cousland: My precious! The light it burns us!!!!

Me: Oh for vagina's sake!!! *delete*

or.

Me: Ah nearly done with the campaign...

Loghain: *20 minute convo* I have something desperately important to tell you

Cousland: Derp derp derp *My face looks like it's been kicked repeatedly by donkeys*

Me: Damn you COUSLAND!!!!!!!

Loghain: Now go.

Me: Wait NO, what the hell did I miss? Did I remember to save *checks....has not* F2CK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Cousland:....................................................................................................................Derp

.....uh...this is by far the best thread on the entire BSN.

Although, I cannot keep up. Lol. I've been reading the past few pages. There's just so much I want to comment on.

1) you guys are funny as hell. So enjoy reading this thread.
2)...Pink Cullen. I...uh..you know, very few can actually pull that outfit off. But Pink Cullen can.
3) Alistair in DAO all day, every day. I cannot resist him. There is a certain tenderness to that romance that I'm just a complete sucker for. (altho, I haven't done any other full romances besides Alistair---I've tried.)
4) Anders...he was okay. No, I lie. I fell for Anders the first playthru, but it never had that special feeling to it. Not for me. In one of my playthus I murder knifed him. It was all very dramatic. I murder knifed my Luvr! (until Isabella broke in w/, "How invigorating." Me: "Quiet, you." Lol.

5) I love all my companions. There's never been a companion I actively wanted to see dead. It could be completionist thing in me, too. First DA2 playthru I got Fenris killed. Or, he got himself killed. However you wanna look at it.

I had to go waaayyy back to a strategic save--that wasn't really all that strategic afterall---just to save him. Most importantly, to save him from that pitiful, non existent death scene. He just disappeared into the ground. I didn't say goodbye. Or, express any regrets.

By the end of the new playthru, I hd finally rivalled him out. He says something like, "...I think you may have saved my life. In more ways than I realize." I thought to myself, "you have no idea, Fen. What I just went thru to get you outta this game alive." Ha!

6) Meredith/Idol: oooooo. And what happened to that MereD statue? That thing needs to be stored away like radioactive waste. Deep underground and...oh, wait.

Srsly, what is up w/that thing? It comes from an area of the DeepRoads that was built loong before the first blight. But by who? And for what purpose? It's definitely a soul sucker that seems to enhance dramatically whatever your particular proclivities.

The "singing" part--definitely Old God/Arch Demon-y stuff. Do you think it may be a magical prison for one of the Old Gods? Or, maybe--depending on how magical it is--it's a prison for several of the Old Gods?

Actually, not the Old God's like the dragons, but the ones like that Elven story Merrill told. Where the trickster..uh, tricked them (cuz a trickster's gonna trick) and they were the ones that got sealed in a prison below ground.

Are the dragon old gods the same ones as the Elven story and the war in heaven?

Whoever it is in the statue, they look like Han Solo from the end of Empire Strikes Back.
