Oo, what if the enemy was your own parent or sibling? But this time they are in your party for a while so you grow more attached to them, then they do something to betray you and go crazy mad for power.
I think it'd be cool but idk how I feel completely about it. I mean something that I personally believe takes away from some characters is if their face changes, because there is always one that looks umm more...well it fits better. It wouldn't be much of an issue for me because I tend to use the default but for everyone else.
It is an awesome idea though because I can see a, well I like the idea of an enemy who is your mother, it seems soorly unused in entertainment imo. I mean of either of my parents the only one I think could manipulate me is my mom, though different strokes and all that.
Another betrayal though so soon after Anders that is anything but a personal quest to me would be....too soon. Another Zevran quest is fine but when it's something like what Anders did idk. I mean betrayal seemed to be something of a trope of sorts in DA2 I mean you could possibly have Carver, Anders and Isabela all betray you. Not to mention Meredith and Bartrand.
I mean most of those things I don't really experience because Carver always becomes a Warden in my story.

I just really want an enemy that is personal for me. For most, I just sit there going "Do I have to after them? I don't care what they did." But then, thats pretty much the point of the story, to go after the bad guy and save the day.

Start sifting through random professions: Lumberjack, CEO, Chippendale's, Longshoreman, Rabbi, astronaut, etc. It'll be like Barbie. We can make it into a calendar. LOLlittlenikki wrote...

I'd be down for a companion that screws you over. Especially if he/she seems really nice to begin with and then you find out that he/she has been trying to turn the other companions against you to separate you away from the group in order to carry out their nefarious plan.

It could be a bit like Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars? I do like that idea, the betrayal of trust (because you do place some trust in your companions).
Re manip ideas of Cullen - how about the emergency services - fireman, British bobby ... those firemen do like to strip off this time of year for their calendars!
Or some historical character - roman centurion, Henry VIII (younger days) or romantic fictional character such as Darcy in Pride and Prejudice or my personal favourite John Thornton from North and South (Elizabeth Gaskell).

You know, a companion betrayal could still be new if it was more like you'd been duped from the beginning by having one of the bad guys unknowingly as your companion. Like, someone who was assigned so infiltrate your group and spy on you ...but then later has a change of heart... or not, depending on your approval levels.
If it was done well and if the character's sole purpose was to betray you at the most opportune moment and he/she actually does it that would be cool. I like the idea of getting to know the companion over again, like maybe he/she uses an alias while putting enough truth in to sell the lie but when you forgive them they sort of tell you all about them.
I'm sure they could do a great job I just dunno how much betrayal I can take before I start rolling my eyes.
Me: Oh you're betraying me? Get in line!!!!

On a more sane note. I think that Lambert dying, Wynne dying and the overall Mages separating are all that is canon from that.

Yeah, I know what you mean... but honestly, I don't know that they've done the classic personal betrayal things too much. I guess I don't really see Anders's erm, demolitionary proclivities as so much a personal betrayal as a big shock that I just really didn't know him as well as I thought. It's not like he got involved with me solely to gain access to my house, and then moved in with me and blew up the Hawke estate, if you see what I mean. I suppose he did betray my trust by potentially making me an accessory to making and planting the bomb, but I guess... I dunno, in my case, the first word I would use wouldn't have been betrayal. Maybe I just think of it differently...Danny Boy 7 wrote...

I'd agree with Isabela, since she takes the book right from under you and splits.
Not to say you are not perfectly justified in being over the whole betrayal trope... just saying I may still be primed for some!

My guess is that what will really be canon are just the big events, ie. the separation of the Templars & Seekers from the Chantry must be canon, particularly since Varric and Cassandra talk about it in DA2.Danny Boy 7 wrote...

In principle, the Wynne *events* of Asunder cannot necessarily be canon, since Wynne could have died during your DA:O game. That being said, I think no matter what, her state of living is now officially deceased. Of course, her overall activities in Asunder were catalysts for the friction that caused the separation... so still curious how they deal with that. Who knows... maybe they will retcon Wynne's deaths from DA:O.
Also, on Lambert, even in the book we don't technically know if Lambert is alive.
