Yeah, I know what you mean... but honestly, I don't know that they've done the classic personal betrayal things too much. I guess I don't really see Anders's erm, demolitionary proclivities as so much a personal betrayal as a big shock that I just really didn't know him as well as I thought. It's not like he got involved with me solely to gain access to my house, and then moved in with me and blew up the Hawke estate, if you see what I mean. I suppose he did betray my trust by potentially making me an accessory to making and planting the bomb, but I guess... I dunno, in my case, the first word I would use wouldn't have been betrayal. Maybe I just think of it differently...Danny Boy 7 wrote...

You know, a companion betrayal could still be new if it was more like you'd been duped from the beginning by having one of the bad guys unknowingly as your companion. Like, someone who was assigned so infiltrate your group and spy on you ...but then later has a change of heart... or not, depending on your approval levels.
If it was done well and if the character's sole purpose was to betray you at the most opportune moment and he/she actually does it that would be cool. I like the idea of getting to know the companion over again, like maybe he/she uses an alias while putting enough truth in to sell the lie but when you forgive them they sort of tell you all about them.
I'm sure they could do a great job I just dunno how much betrayal I can take before I start rolling my eyes.
Me: Oh you're betraying me? Get in line!!!!
I'd agree with Isabela, since she takes the book right from under you and splits.
Not to say you are not perfectly justified in being over the whole betrayal trope... just saying I may still be primed for some!
Nah I agree with you. Anders is a minor betrayal, but when I think of what he did I sort of involve myself far to much. I basically helped him murder innocents albeit for a good cause I just can't get behind someone who kills for a cause whatever it is. Soldiers are one thing, I mean they sign up for it, but civilians are another. And even then I'd rather someone constantly run, though if they turn and fight I can't argue with them.
I'm not OVER betrayal so much as it's become less of a betrayal as in I expect it now.
Me: So which one of you is going to betray me...
Them: You're just paranoid.
Me: No! Loghain did it, Isabela did it, Anders to (kind of) ONE of you is going to bend me over and bone me!
If I don't expect it, or if it is so interesting despite me knowing it's coming I'll be fine, it's just it happened so much in the last game that I'm waiting for maybe a nemesis that makes me excited. Maybe someone who actually beats our character like Kai Leng in ME3. He won several times, even offed Thane (I had my revenge though) but he sort of mirrored Shepard.
