Can you just imagine? Cullen, in the middle of the confrontation with Meredith, all dazed out and singing "On the good ship, lollipop. It's a sweet trip to a candy shop!"

Haha Well I call it like I see it :D Well that's the beauty of BW and DA; it brings up moral questions and pits us against one another! Though I never felt they quite made their case with "I actually want to go to the Circle, really I do" Bethany.

You make an excellent point. I don't think Bethany wanted to go to the Circle, exactly, so much as she wanted to stop running. She wanted her family to stop putting everything on the line to protect her.

The problem with the comparison between the prison system and the Circle system is that the "prisoners" in the Circle have done literally nothing wrong. A more apt comparison might be a comparison between the Circles and a concentration camp. Or an interment camp, if you want to sugar-coat it. And the problem with placing innocents in such a system is that it is absolutely primed for abuse. History has shown that even well-intentioned jailers are ripe for corruption.

In a "free mage" society, individual mages would have the support of their families, social interaction with non-mages who would quickly learn that they're people just like everyone else, and their livelihoods to occupy their time and their minds, giving them the satisfaction, the hopes, and the frustrations that sustain everyone else on Thedas. Plunk those mages in a prison and they feel isolated, sub-human, and have absolutely zero incentive to play nice with others. Why shouldn't they tamper with the forbidden? They have nothing else to do. Plus, there's logistics to think about. Get one "bad apple" templar like Meredith in power and everything goes straight to shiit. Because there is nobody to stop her. Templars are people, too. They are just as susceptible to the lure of power, and they are just as well-supplied with the means to pursue it. As an added bonus, they have enjoyed the full and unconditional blessing of the Chantry in their quest for world domination. Meredith did not stop with controlling the mages. She had all of Kirkwall under her heel. A tyrant like Meredith is just as likely as a nutjob like Uldred, and unlike Uldred, there is no Right of Annulment that can be invoked to halt her ambition. Once the mages were dead, was there anyone left to defend the people of Kirkwall against her? Apart from Hawke, of course. Had Hawke not been there, things would have ended very differently, Cullen or no. He's a tough fighter, but he didn't have a magic sword.

My plan is not entirely focused on granting liberty to the few individuals In a "free mage" society, the mages are dispersed. There is no centralized hub for plotting the overthrow of humanity. That's hyperbole, but not exactly untrue. The last thing you want is to put all the dangerous people together in one spot, be they templar or mage. Because, let's face it, maniacs with swords and the Maker on their side are probably just as dangerous as mages. Especially once their lyrium supply is interrupted.

Wonder what Cullen is going through in the months following Lambert's decision.

And those were the days when Cullen could tell he'd taken just a little too much lyrium.

Every time I post something, I expect Varric to say "Oh, go away Justice. Anders, you are no fun anymore." Sorry. I do laugh sometimes, honest!

For example, the first thing I thought when I saw the Cullen car was "Eat me!"

In a completely unrelated note, I was listening to Christmas carols today, which got me wondering how many I still remembered. Is it glorious or pathetic that I can only remember the joke lyrics to "We Three Kings"?

We three kings of Orient are,
One on a bicycle, one in a car,
One on a scooter, blowing his hooter,
Following yonder star!

I can agree with this, though one last question before we hug and rejoin the collective don't the mages have Tevinter while the Chantry has Orlais as centralized locations? I mean even in a free society when people view things as normal in an unbiased fashion they still congregate. I mean my girlfriend (well ex) and mom are both accepting and even game a bit on their own but I still want to go to Comicon or E3 because it's cool to see so many people interested in the same thing I am.

I mean biologically don't we seek out like minded people. It's how you get terrorist groups as well as freedom fighters. Though I guess the argument could be made that in a free society they'd be less inclined to do so. Hmm...but isn't that how the Imperium started? I mean there was no taboo, no hatred towards mages that we know and yet they came to the collective decision to enslave an entire continent...I guess though that you sort of just have to chalk that up to the price of freedom the potential for abuse. Really that's the price of the right to gather I guess in order to practice whatever you want you have to be aware that people will missuse that trust (though in varying stages).

Like us! As Cullen fans we risk fellow Cullen fans going around acting a bit to...excited for *cough* Cullypoo:sick:

I think I have a good understanding though I can get behind this train of thought.

But... if it's like Les Miserables then I'll be crying so hard throughout the whole bloody thing that I won't be able to see the controls to fight properly!

... Nobody better cut off Cullen curls for money, or I shall be very upset LOL.

You know we had an interesting discussion once upon a time about parallels between Cullen and Javert in  how they're defined by their duty to the law.

... and Cullen singing??? Gets my vote.:wizard:

Nope, that should be it for tonight. Gotta make sure to spread out these images until Xmas! And I agree w/ Lola, I think we have a winner there with the gumdrop buttons caption.
