Cullen Origin Story Challenge! (courtesy of Shades of Pale)

OK folks let's plan on writing up a short "thing" imagining Cullen's background/origin story. It can be a story or just a description. Let's shoot for less than 1000 words to keep them manageable for writers and readers. If it's less than 500, you can just post it here. Otherwise, post it elsewhere and link, such as from a blog entry here on BSN or tumblr or fanfiction.net (if it's a story) or wherever.

How long would folks want? I reckon we'd only need 1-2 weeks, but with the holidays coming, should we share for New Years?

I must have missed that. Should be interesting to see what everyone comes up with.

Interesting, sounds like we should instead read that issue of Game Informer where Aaron Flynn was quoted.  LOL  And, boy howdy on the proof reading. LOL So RPGs are a "tight-knight genre"? LOL Cameron got a quote! Tee hee.

I hadn't heard someone say directly that the game would be more open world, but it would be foolish to assume Skyrim won't be a huge influence on the next wave of RPGs. I hadn't really thought about that comment about the large size of one of the levels being an indicator of this, but I suppose that follows.  NOT a fan of open world, but color me cautiously optimistic.

It sounds like the article is just making broad assumptions based on the concept art looking spacious. What they're forgetting is that all the DA concept art from the previous two games also looked huge as though it was an open world game.

They mentioned quotes from Aaron Flynn in Game Informer saying it explicitly, tho. Curious.

I don't think they are truly going to make DA3 as open world as Skyrim. If they made it like NWN and Baldur's Gate, it wouldn't be suprising, and I think it would be enjoyable that way. Especially if they keep their storylines going and their awesome characters *cough*Cullen*cough*

Good point, Shades. I'm ok with having space to explore... so long as there's something to find. Wandering around to enjoy the landscape for the landscape's sake sounds boring.

Was the deadline agreed as New Year's day in the end? Sorry I wasn't sure.

I understand that nothing related to DA3 was shown as the VGAs of which there seemed to be a lot of disappointment on the forums. I'm not sure if they show upcoming game trailers at the BAFTA Game awards.  They are in March, so you never know ....

I don't mind if it's open world, so long as the exploration doesn't take away from the story. That was my problem with Skyrim. It was tooo much stuff that I didn't feel the slightest bit interested in the actual storyline of the game. After a bit, I shut off the game and just stopped playing it.

I doubt that will happen with DA3 simply because I'm way too fond of the game/storyline. Were there some things in DA:O and DA2 that I didn't like? Sure. But My love of those games overshadowed the things I didn't like. I'm sure it will be the same with DA3....especially if Cullen is in it!

Open world is fine, but sometimes it can take up a lot of time trying to discover things (I mean it can be hours!).  It is story and characters which are more important to me.

I personally haven't played Skyrim so I cannot comment on that game (a lot of people are making comparisons).  I think playing Oblivion put me off.  I just couldn't get on with the combat function of that game (it seemed really slow and laborious to me) and gave up quite early on .  I think it was probably me rather than the game!

Whatever way the next DA game goes,  I'm sure the storyline and characters will be great (being positive) and that's the main thing!

As for the origin story challenge, I can only say that I'll try to get something short thrown together. I'd like to participate but I'm having time issues as of late.
