Cullen Origin Story Challenge!
WHAT: Write up a short "thing" imagining Cullen's background/origin story. It can be a story or just a description.
LENGTH:
less than 1000 words. If it's less than 500, you can just post it here. Otherwise, post it elsewhere and link, such as from a blog entry here on BSN or tumblr or fanfiction.net (if it's a story) or wherever.
DUE DATE: New Years Day (let's shoot to post that evening U.S. time, but anytime that day works for those in other timezones). Hopefully that will give everyone plenty of time with the holidays and school and whatnot.
PROMPTS TO GET OUR CREATIVE JUICES FLOWING:
1. Is Cullen an only child or does he have siblings?
2. Is he related to any mages?
3. Did he always want to be a templar? If so/If not, why did he join?
4. Was he a good kid or a naughty kid?
5. Did he have lots of friends growing up? Loner?
6. Was the Amell/Surana his first love? If not, who was?
7. How old was he when he joined the Order?
9. Are they still alive?
10. Did he eat his vegetables?
11. Big city kid? Country kid?
12. In high school, voted most likely to... Join the Templar Order? Marry into the nobility? Run into the wildness to seek our the Dalish? Best looking? class Clown?

I'd say it's more of a guideline than a rule... so, knock yourself out! Particularly, if your muse has bitten.Shades_Of_Pale wrote...
Is it okay if its a little over 1000 words? Asking just in case. If not, thats cool but my story will seem very condensed, so I apologize in advance. lol.

Hey guys I'm replaying Mass Effect and I was wondering who you think I should romance? I'm trying to decide between Ashley and Liara. On one hand Ashley is kind of awesome, racism aside, but then Liara seems so much more important to Shepard's story.
I've never met Ashley since I always pick Kaiden in ME3. But I love Liara. She was to be my FemShep's LI before I had to quit playing (game was on someone else's system, not mine).

I love both personally. Either is great. Baby Blue has far more emotional moments, especially in ME3.
I don't know why so many people hate Ash and call her a Xenophobe. I don't think it's that simple to be honest. I loved Ash. I thought her character was very strong. It beats how they portray women in a game like Walking Dead. A female buddy of mine jokes that the writing in that game thinks all women are naive and obnoxious. Like in episode 1, that part where you put the batteries in the radio for Carley...lol.
Here is a great fan video with Ash, one of the best I've seen for Mass Effect. Never forget...never forget the legend!
Love that video.

I loved ME1 Ash. The writing for ME3 Ash IMO suffered considerably from bugged dialogue and cut material. And I agree re: The Walking Dead. It's very disappointing how the female characters are portrayed in the TV show and games given how awesome some of those same characters are in the comics.

So I've been gone a couple days and I can't be bothered to read all the posts you guys made while I was gone, but I wanna ask another question that came to me earlier, if you don't mind that is.
So one thing I really loved about Skyrim was the fact that even if you DID finish the campaign, you'd still be able to play the game and roam around completing quests you haven't done yet. When I loaded a finished playthrough in Origins, I had no idea we could return to camp and have conversations with our party members. I was excited when it said I could go to the world map with a party, but then I was like "Aww" because I couldn't travel anywhere.
Anyway, my question is, do you think that kind of freedom would be good in Dragon Age? Or do you think that it should stick with the "this is the campaign, if you don't finish all the quests now you can't later"? Because I miss soo many quests in the Dragon Age game just because I'm eager to finish the campaign that I often don't do them and miss out on the party reactions and stuff. I think it'd be good to have the ability to go back and finish them.
Also I'm gonna try at the Cullen origin story, don't think it'll be any good but I'm just writing down my headcanon crap.

It just really depends on what occurs at the end of the game tbh. I mean, in Origins it might have been ok since there is pretty much the same outcome (Archdemon is dead) with other details thrown in that can be reflected in either conversation or just not really addressed outright (Like if Alistair is King or Dead or Banished, who killed the Archdemon) Unless of course your Warden died, then yea, not much running around for you!
I can't see how that would work in DA II however. Hawke is put in a pretty tight spot if you choose to side with the mages, and there was so much destruction in such a small setting, it would require that the devs go through and redesign an entirely new Kirkwall that still shows the scars of the battle (Hole in the ground Chantry comes to mind) It makes little sense that they would squander so many resources just to have a bit of end game play.
If they were able to pull it off, while still sticking to the events of the final battle, of course I'd be happy about it. I wouldn't want them to sacrifice time and money to achieve it however.

Yeah I thought something similar, I didn't think that freedom would be able to fit in to DA2, especially since they all vanished into the hills or whatever and that Hawke and the Warden are being sought out because they've gone missing.
I imagine that DA3 is going to be about having to stop civil war in Orlais and unite the mages and templars to destroy whatever evil thing is going on (Sound familiar at all?), so it may be able to fit in there. I mean with Skyrim you're saving the world by killing the world-eating dragon, which is a HUGE deal since you're a part of a freaking prophecy! And even then people don't react all that much, you only get the occasional NPC telling you you're a hero.
Hell, maybe they can pull something off where this is all happening before the big battle. But that'd be a little confusing.

ME2 allowed you to play on after finishing the main quest too. But again, it has to make sense for the story. I think it could've worked for ME1 as well. Less so ME3 and DA2.
As for Skyrim, the lack of reactivity is a function of the game's design. Skyrim offers so much more freedom than BioWare's games. To do that without nuking your console or PC, it sacrifices depth in certain areas, particularly in NPC interactions and dialogue. Though IMO the NPCs tied into factions, the main quest, the Skyrim Civil War, and longer sidequests are still given a fair amount of depth and reactivity. Serana's almost like a BioWare companion.

I guess it'll just be done midweek instead. He said that he and the others have a heavy few weeks coming up and they'd been working their arses off to hit certain deadlines 'n' sh!t, so maybe that's why they decided to postphone it by a couple of days?
