I don't know what to think about DG's comments any more. For a while there, every time he talked about Cullen he also mentioned the irrational fans coming for the writers with pitchforks. That could suggest that Cullen IS in the game, but that the writers expect Cullen will be different from *someone*'s headcanon and therefore, they are bracing themselves for the "Cullen backlash". It seems it wasn't til we started to push back on that, pointing out that we're not hateful just excited, that he dialed some of that down.LolaLei wrote...

Yeah, I don't doubt that I will love the game... but I'd certainly love it just a little bit harder if Cullen was a romancable companion LOL!
I totally agreebut in my honest opinion I'd rather not have Cullen as a romance option if they butchered his character achieving it. But I'm certain that won't happen, I've got faith in the devs :B
The thing that makes me think that he won't be a companion in any capacity, is that DG once said that the fans had pretty much head canoned his personality/story/history so much that it would be impossible for them to come up with anything other than what the fans have already decided for him. (Those weren't his precise words, but I can't find the thread he wrote it in).
Now, I don't know if he was refering to the fact that Cullen's fanbase has pretty much covered every possibility that could ever happen to the boy, so there would be no possible way to come up with something new/unexpected that no one has thought up yet. OR if he meant that the fans are so adamant that Cullen's personality and story should play out a certain way, that he feels they'd have to roll with it or risk an almighty sh!t storm.
Either way, I think that our over excitement about his character could be the very thing that ruins our chances. Perhaps we filled in his blank canvas so much that there's no room for maneuver, thus discouraging Gaider's enthusiasm to work on him in a companion/LI role.
My own thought is that while the fandom can't help but provide some influence on the writers' consciousness when they're developing the characters, inevitably he'll only be in DA3 if the story dictates. So I honestly don't think we, the fans, have made his chances any greater or smaller.
